You're very welcome to use my research--I'm happy to share! As for staying close to family, I kick myself on a regular basis for not asking more questions of my parents and the one grandmother I knew when they were alive. Unfortunately, most of us don't seem to become interested in family research until we're older.

The Parr, IN cemetery (St. Johns) is indeed as it must have looked when my great grandmother Hulda SCHULTz was still living in Jasper County. I admit I have fallen behind on my research of the SCHULTZ family. I have relied heavily on your research. I hope you don't mind. I could never figure out why the Hammond,IN branch of the family with Hilda Rosenbaum STANFORD as the head (daughter of Hulda)didn't stay close to the SCHULTZ family in later years. There are somany cousins I know I had but never knew. Maybe one day....

Yes, we're certainly working on the same family. I've about wrung out all the info I can find on my branch of it, thanks to my great third cousin Donna, who is descended from Michael Gehtes Schultz. I visited her last year and she took me to St. John's cemetery, where I found my great-grandparents' gravestones. I can't tell you how moving it was, especially when I looked around me and realized that except for the fact that the roads are now paved, the countryside must have looked identical when my great-grandparents and their children were alive. Christian and Bertha (Roeck) Schultz' second-to-last daughter, Agnes Amalia Schultz, was my grandmother.

If I had NOT made that trip, however, your information would have been invaluable, and it's very kind of you to provide it!

Leah (helensdottr)

Yes, Kristy, I do, thanks to my third cousin Donna, who is a descendent of Michael Gehtes Schultz and has documented that family very thoroughly and carefully over the years.

Back row (l-r): Paul Leo Schultz, Helena Adeline Schultz, Amel Albert Schultz, Hulda Juliane Schultz, Adolph Daniel Schultz, Julius Schultz, Clara W. Schultz.

Front row (l-r): Bertha Henriette Schultz, Michael Gehtes Schultz, Henrietta Marie (Makus) Schultz, August Reinhard Schultz.

Amel Albert Schultz married his second cousin, Emma Schultz, who was my grandmother Agnes' sister.

I only wish Michael Gehtes Schultz' first cousin, my great-grandfather Christian Rodolph Schultz, had taken a group photo like this one!

Leah (helensdottr)

We seem to be working on the same family..SCHULTZ. I have some information since my great grandmother was Hulda Schultz ROSENBAUM and my g.g.grandfather was Michael G. SCHULTZ, who did emigrate to Indiana (1881?)with his cousin, my g.g.grandfather. Michael G.. Christian Rudolph SCHULTZ b:6/22/1834 d: 2/16/1911 and his wife are buried in the Jasper County, St. John's Cemetery along with his wife Bertha J. SCHULTZ b: 3/21/1848 d: 6/9/1920. There are no other birth dates in the cemetery with a birth date earlier than 1833. Has this helped?

Looking for any information on Mary E. (Ella/Ellie) SCHULTZ who was born in Baltimore, Maryland between 1890 and 1893. Her parents were most likely Frank and Anna ZULAUF SCHULTZ. Anna died in 1893 and I know nothing more on Frank.
Mary E. was living with grandparents John and Christina REDING on both the 1900 and 1910 censuses in Baltimore. An older relative remembers that Ellie, as he knew her, married but cannot remember the mans name.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello, I am Edmond Schultz from the Netherlands. I just found out that there was a Charles Schultz, born in Luxembourg, Arlon on July the 7th 1810, died in Palembang Indonesia on August 19, 1848. Probably he was a soldier who served in the Dutch Kolonial Army.
I am looking for the father of my great grand mother: Marie Margaretha Schultz, born aug 10, 1870(not officially Schultz). Maybe her father was related to the Charles Schultz in a way..
Hopefully this solved your missing link..

Regards,

Edmond Schultz

I am searching for information on Mary E. (Ella) SCHULTZ born in Maryland between 1890 and 1893. She is most likely the daughter of Frank and Annie (Zulauf) SCHULTZ. Annie died in 1893 and I have no other information on Frank.

Mary is living with her grandparents, John and Christina REDING on both the 1900 and 1910 censuses in Baltimore. I am told she did marry but no one knows to whom. This marriage probably took place between 1910 and before the 1920 census. She may have gone by the name Ella as that is how my great uncle always referred to her.

Any information on Mary/Ella, her marriage, possible children, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I'm researching my 4th-great-grandparents, Frederick Godfrey Schultz (born c. 1822 Connecticut, died 1896 New York) and Caroline M. Johnson.
I wrote to a research library to find his parents and got a lot of information on a man named Godfrey Schultz (born c. 1801, died c. 1870s), who could possibly be his father, but very little about his possible mother, Elizabeth (her maiden name is unknown, but she married a man previously named Sealer).
Does anyone know more information about this Godfrey Schultz and his first marriage to Elizabeth, or their children together? I know he married a second time to a Catherine. I am trying to gather more information to see if this man is indeed Frederick's father and my 5th-great-grandfather.
I saw that on the daughter Dorothy also, which make me wonder what happened to her. You are good at finding the mother and son together, good work. I did find a Georgia Schultz on Find-A-Grave in Pinellas County, Largo 1883-1863. This would be a very strange situation for my sister-in-law to find out that her paternal biological grandmother was living in the same county. I am wondering right now on how to present this information to her.

I also found her on the 1920 census (widowed) in Pennsylvania working in a hospital as a kitchen maid. The hospital was Philadelphia Hospital for Contagious Diseases.

This has got to be a heart breaking story, I need more answers that the census do no tell. What happened to her that she left 4, or 5, children behind and left the state. What happened to Floyd, the story I was told was they both died in a plane crash in the 1920’s. What ever happened occurred in 1919 after the birth of Floyd.

Pat
Barb, I was just looking at that census for 1920 and the orphanage. Those two boys I am, almost certain, are the two I am looking for even though the age and names are different. They most definitely appear to be twins. My main thought is that Marcus’s name would be the same as his paternal grandfather. My thinking is on the one you mentioned on your last message about Roger E. Schultz as a grandson. I took that Marcus as the line I was looking for and went back. On the 1900 census he has his whole family with him and one of his son’s is named Floyd S. Schultz. I am thinking that he is the one that has died PRIOR TO 1920, with his wife, and named one child after himself and one after his father. The reason I was having such a time with Floyd was I spelled his name wrong, it should be Crist and not Christ. I found him with his adopted family, listed as son, on the 1920 census living in Cornwall, Orange County New York. They are there on the 1930 census as well only now he is listed as adopted son.

The reason Roger E. never changed his name is because he stayed with his Grandfather Schultz, don’t know as yet if he was adopted by his grandfather. On the 1930 census Roger has left his grandfather. Marcus is with his daughter Margaret age 51. Still trying to locate Roger in 1930.

I am finding some numbers to call in Orange County about the orphanage to see if they have records for that time frame. Also as I mentioned there are other Schultz listed in Collier County Florida that may be related to Roger E. I will be on the phone for a while this week.

Also I found 4 other Schultz children (step children) all born within about the same time frame but living in Erie County, I will put them down and sort them by age to see if they fit. This may just be coincidence since Raymond’s obit does not mention any other siblings.

Thanks so much for the help you have given, I was just starting to go around in circles. I will post a follow up with any information I find on this family just in case someone else may be trying to put this puzzle together.
Pat
Re: Schultz Family in Orange County, possible

When I looked at the 1920 census for Orange County, there were several "stray" Schultz children under the age of 10. (The database I looked at only indexes them if they are not living with parents). One interesting entry was for twins, James and Marcus Schultz age 6. Now I know that is not the right age for Raymond and Griffin, but what if the adoptive parents changed their first names as well and their ages were not recorded correctly?
The twins were living at the Newburgh home for the Friendless, in Newburgh, Orange County. If you look at this entry from another poster about the home, they give a link of where to write for information
http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.new...

Now, I may be all wet, but here is my line of thinking. In the 1920 census there was a Rodger E Schultz, living with his Grandparents, including Marcus Schultz, and his father, Alpheus (or Alphonse) Schultz. So, it follows that possibly Marcus Schultz in the home was a grandson of the older Marcus Schultz. Also, there was an Alphonso Schultz, age 2, living with another family and listed as "friend" of the family. Floyd, possibly? Now, I admit this is all conjecture, but it might help to look at the Newburgh home information.

The only Roger Schultz of the right age I could find in 1930 is a Rodger E. Schultz, age 19, living in Upper Darby PA with his widowed Mother, Georgia Schultz. Hmm, wonder if that is him or not?
He may not be in the SSDI even if he did die, if no one claimed a death benefit for him.

Barb, thanks for the reply. Thinking about these boys, Roger may still be alive although at 100. The below information is all I have on them and still doing various manipulations on the names I cannot come with anything on the 1920 census.

Raymond Richcreek was born 3 September 1916 and died in Florida 3 February 1990. His obit says he came from Chester New York in 1926.
Griffin Richcreek (known also as Henry) was a twin to Raymond and born 3 September 1916 and died 15 December 1990 in Florida. His obit says he was born in Bails Gate (Vails Gate ???) and came to Florida from Chester New York in 1924. Both Vails Gate and Chester are in Orange County.

Roger E. Schultz, basically the only thing I can find on him is a listing in the U.S. Public Records Index Vol. 2 at Ancestry.com. He was born 6 November 1911 and lived at the same address through the mid 1990’s. The number listed now belongs to someone else and the address for him is in another name as well. In 2011 he would be 100 years old, he could still be living. He was living on Marco Island Florida from at least 1990 (brothers obit) till 1996, no death record found as yet. There are some Schultz living on Marco Island and I will be making a few phone calls to see if I can get any further information on him.

Floyd S. Christ was born 17 January 1919 and died in Massachusetts 22 May 1993. His SSN was issued in New York before 1951.

So far this is all I have on them. The only negative is the time frame between Roger and the twins is 5 years but the parents could have lost one child during that period of time. Raymond and Henry Griffin were the two that were adopted together, probably because they were twins. Raymond’s obit is the only “tie together” that I have putting all four names with the family. His obit also gives their location in 1990.

Raymond’s daughter is my sister-in-law and I am trying to find this family for her. All she has is “bits and pieces” of her paternal heritage.

Thanks for anything you might find,
Pat
