Hi. I would like to get in contact with my best friend from 6th-10th grades, Patty Scoggins. My family moved away from the Ballico/Cressey area in 1976. I remember Patty's family. You must be her younger sister who went by Francie. I know Patty married a Ronnie McClain. I lost touch with her shortly after that time. Thank you.

There is allot of years of dispute over who belongs to whom?
Can anyone help me sort out these two lines.

My line says that William Allen Scroggins/Scoggins was the son of Charles Scoggins and Sarah Dye who lived in Murray Co, GA just across the border from him.
That most of their kids married in Gilmer Co, GA and that John Scoggins and Rhoda Carolina Millsaps are also Charles son and dau in law?
But others have Wm A Scroggins linked to Wm Freeman Scroggins.
Is there any DNA testing in these lines?

I've been trying to pass this information along to Bob Brooke and Heloise J. My great grandmother was Pearl Wimpee Jackson Crisp, who was the daughter of Mark Washington and Amanda Alice Scoggin Wimpee. I thought I'd share what I know about her family in case you hadn't found it. I also have some information on the Wimpee's if you would like that.
Hello M. Pearcy: I will send you a scan of the letter and a typed copy. You are correct about Louisana and Elisha-I also have a copy of her letter which was written on July 8, 1835. I will need your email address to send the scan. Do you know what happened to William and Rebecca Crook? I believe William Died in Illinois around 1848 and Rebecca returned to Dekalb Co., Tennessee to live near in laws and appeared in the 1850 census. The census list her with 5 children of which 3 were born in Illinois.
Thanks, Humphrey

Anderson Pearcy moved from Wilson Co., TN, first to Green Co., IL and ultimately to Jefferson Co., IL. He remained married to Catherine Lasiter until his death in 1875. Catherine died in 1881. Both are buried in Locust Grove Cemetery outside of Mt. Vernon, IL. The letter apparently resulted in his sister Louisiana and her husband Elisha McGinnes to move to Jefferson Co. However his brothers, Williamson and Sherwood Henry, ended up moving to Laclede Co., MO. Can a get a scanned copy of the letter you are referring to?

Joseph Warren Scoggins (1842-1922) is my GGG-Grandfather.
I have a pretty good bit of info on the Scoggins'... all the way back to Nicholas Scoggins(1741-1826) and Betty Prince Scoggins(1744-1832). I am interested in hearing what you have on any of the Scoggins'.
Joseph Warren did serve in the Civil War. He was a Private in Capt. John H. Tiller's Company; Echols Light Artillery, Georgia Volunteers.. but didn't die of any war wounds. However, Joseph's father, John J. (1822-1862) was also in the civil war, he was a Private , Gilmer Blues, Co. K, 6th Regiment, Georgia Volunteers... and he did die while serving. But it wasn't the wound that killed him, it was Dysentery that he contracted while in a hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering if this Scoggins is related to the family that Holly Vonderohe asked about. I am currently researching a Scoggins born about 1838 in Alabama who appears on the 1850 Pike Alabama census, but is listed on Ancestry.com as "Solaner Scoggins." I think this is possibly a transcription error, and should be "Toliver" or "Tolliver," and I'm guessing his full name is "Toliver Wright Scoggins." This would be the son of John Scoggins and Susan Collins. Several siblings, including Frances Elizabeth, Demaris Amanda, Sarah, Jacob, Benjamin B, and Samuel Marshall. Any help or verification on the name would be appreciated.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1850usfedcenan...

John Benjamin Haney married Mary Ruth Pascoe and had two children, one named after his mother, Ella J. John died in 1940 and is buried at the Granny Walker Cem Soddy Daisy TN. His mother, Ella J Scoggins Haney, died 16 Nov 1916 and is also buried at Granny Walker. I have a picture of her looking pretty tired at an early age. It must have been taken fairly close to her death. I also have a picture of her daughter Emma Jane b 19 Aug 1892 who married in Soddy Daisy 6 Oct 1912.

I have bible pages showing the dates of birth of Emma's nine children. Emma had a very old family bible at some point, but it's gone missing.

What were the years that your Texas Scroggins were married into the McCommas family?? Our Laura Mccomas was born 1842 and she died in 1882. McComas name spelled McCommas when they went to Texas. Laura's sister Martha A. McComas married a Scroggins circa 1860 in Sebastain Co., Arkansas. The McCommas family went into Texas around the Dallas area. Wondering where the connection is here. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have also seen several wives listed for this John and sometimes none listed. This John is then shown as the son of Richard Scoggin and Ruth Bostic. Can anyone tell me more about this?

Again I'm very appreciative of your response. Could you tell me how I might get a copy of the newspaper article you mentioned concerning Priscilla? Or would it be possible for you to make a copy of what you have? ( I would gladly reimburse you for any costs to you, including postage, if it can't be put on the computer.) Also, if I may, I'd like to ask what children you have listed for John Scoggins and his wife Rhoda. I've been given some information, but I have no idea whether it's correct or not... What I have is Thomas, b ca 1853, William D., b ca. 1857, Sarah Jane, b. ca. 1860, Matthew b. ca. 1863, Julia A b. ca. 1866, John b. ca. 1869, and Homer b. ca. 1871. I was told recently by a cousin in Gainesville GA that a "Mr. Scoggins" came to one of our Whiting family reunions ( a year I didn't go!!) So maybe there are still some of them around somewhere -- I believe this man lived in the Atlanta area. Any additions or corrections to John & Rhoda's family would certainly help me! Thank you so much, Betty

Although I have been doing research for several years, I am just now beginning on this part of my mom's family, so I don't have a great deal of information -- especially the item you are seeking concerning proof of Thomas Scoggins being the son of John Scoggins. Before receiving your message, I had spent some time looking for him myself ( without much luck, I might add!)All I found was that a son named Thomas was living with John and Rhoda Scoggins, along with siblings in the 1860 census of Dawson Co GA, and that he was not listed with that family in 1870! Sorry I cannot help you, but if I do run across anything that might be useful, I will let you know. By the way, I was given the names of a different set of parents for John Scoggins. Somehow they haven't seemed "right" to me, as much of the accompanying information was either mixed together or in error. Could you please tell me how you know that William F and Priscilla A Scoggins are his parents? I think you must be like me -- wanting proof of things and not just fitting together names that seem as if they should fit! So any help you could give me would be much appreciated. I am hoping to find out more from some of my Georgia cousins. I am originally from the Gainesville Ga area ( Hall Co, nextg to Dawson Co), but don't get back there very often now, as I'm in my 70s and try to avoid driving long distances ! ( I live in Columbia SC now.)Most of my information (that I am sure of) concerns the Whiting family -- Sarah Jane Scoggins' family, but I'm hoping to continue finding out about the Scoggins family, as they are part of my direct ancestry. Keep in touch! Thanks, Betty

Thomas Scoggins s/o John and Rhoda is my gggrandfather. We are 99% sure of this. Thomas died between 1880 and 1886. He married Barbary Evans in Dawson co. Ga. They had five daughters. We want the final proof that our Thomas was the son of John. John's parents were William Freeman and Priscella Allen Scoggins. Several of John's brothers had a Thomas but we narrowered it down to John. Would love to have that last proof. Let me know if you have anything on this.
Thanks, Terry and Diane

Vicki,
I got your message but I did not find it until this morning just before I went to work. I will look for what info I have but I also want to see if you have information from this man, I can't remember his name, I have it at work. I will see if you want his information or you might already have it on Wright Scogin. It might be about 35 pages if I send it through email. I will check on it tomorrow.
Thanks for responding, I did not know if you are anyone else has been to this site lately. Talk to you later,
Virginia Harris in Texas

I realize this is an old post, but will take a chance anyhow! My great-grandmother was Sarah Jane Scoggins Whiting; she was a daughter of John Scoggins and a woman we know as Rhoda Ann Milsap, but who might be Rhoda Caroline Milsap... I understand that Rhoda was buried in
Atlanta, but I have no idea where.... would like to exchange information about this family.. thanks if you can help!
