Robert Seaton c 1785 Pennsylvania? (Guernsey, Ohio 1840)

I am trying to ID the parents of Robert Seaton who married Nancy Richardson. Robert and Nancy had 9 children: Eliza, Jane, George ,Mary, Sarah, John Jackson (my ggg grandfather), Davis, Nancy and Rachel. The family was in Guernsey, Ohio in 1840, but that is the only census record I am sure belongs to Robert. His grandson Robert's obituary reported that his grandfather was born in Ireland. Three of the children, including, John Jackson, say their parents were born in Pennsylvania. Two say Ohio. I am trying to figure out if there is a connection to George Seaton (1739-1826) of Ligonier Pennsylvania who married Nancy Amberson. There is an 1850 record placing a John Seaton b 1829 in Ohio living with Jane (Seaton) Richardson (George Seaton's sister). The Seaton family is so complicated that that any help sorting it out would be appreciated.

Seaton's are a large and very historically important family. I would strongly urge you to consider Y Chromosome DNA testing at Family Tree DNA of Houston at the 67 marker level and join the Seton and Gordon groups. By expanding the Seaton database you may be able to close some of the gaps. Please advise. Roy E. Killgore

I have no idea how your message of 2000 is now reaching me in 2012! I can't give you a direct answer but have a couple of suggestions: 1)Check Scotland's baptismal records. All parish records that are known to exist have been compliled; 2) Take the 67 marker Y Chromosome DNA test at Family Tree DNA of Houston (familytreedna.com) and join the Seaton and the Gordon groups. You may find other Seatons or Gordon's that can help. Please advise after you've taken the y test. Roy E. Killgore

my James Seaton was from Scotland....he had a brother, George who was the older son, James being the younger son was free to do as he wished, he turned up in Virgina, the moved on to Greene County, Tenn. (he kept making trips back to Virginia, so feel quite sure he might have had to families....but can't prove it...he would have been my gggg-grandfather, he died in Georgia with very little money after the civil war, I think it was less than 100$, so he was ruined by the war, I think they might have been forced out of Tenn., when the Union Army started to move in, greatgrandfather moved on to Texas .....

I'm kind of lost in this thread. I can't find a John Seaton, b. 1705 Scotland, who married a Mary, in my index. If you can give me some addl facts maybe I can find it.
My ancestor is Mary E. Seaton, b. NH 1798, dau. Andrew Seaton and Polly Bowers. I'd be happy to send you a genealogy report of my ancestral line.
Elinore

United States Marine R.D. Seaton Dog Tag

Hi,
Please contact me at francescacumero@yahoo.com if you can help me with this inquiry. This is my aunt's ancestry.com account, so email is the best way to contact me. Thanks...

I was contacted by someone who was looking through boxes in the attic and found a United States Marine Corp dog tag. They believe that this dog tag could have been from the 40's or 50's, but we are unsure of the era. The name on the dog tag was R.D. Seaton. Blood Type was "O" and the religion is Baptist. I am hoping that someone on here may have had a relative with those initials who served in the Marine Corps. We have the serial number on the tag, which I am withholding for now for comparison purposes when a potential family member is found. The person who found the tag would like to return it to Mr. Seaton or his next of kin, free of charge. I wish I knew more information on how the tag came to be in one of her relative's posessions, but I do not have that information. Any assistance, or suggestions would be welcome. I am unable to send away for his military records because they won't even search for records unless I have a first name.

Elinore, You can contact me directly cairo92@bellsouth.net
I would be delighted to have any information that you can make available. The research and information I have shows that Reed's and Polly's son Bowers remained single. He was
staying in the household of his brother James Andrew and
even appears in the Carter County, Ky. Census of 1900. He is listed as brother to James and his birth state is Ohio.
Bowers did return to the Medina, Ohio area and as you probably know he is buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery. If the James Andrew Seaton family is of interest to you, I will
gladly send what I have. Cathie

About 12 or so years ago, after establishing that I actually had a Seaton ancestor (Mary E. Seaton, sister of Reed Page), I was able to find several books, including THE SEATON FAMILY you spoke of. I don't recall the Secomb book or Wm Kozee, but I did find several town history books that had information. You might like for me to send you a genealogy report. I think I'd rather send any report to your email address rather than the forum if you don't mind.

Have you ever looked into the Bowers line? (I'm sure you know Andrew Seaton married Polly Bowers.) I checked it out a bit; don't recall what I have but recall being interested in them.

Early in my research I joined a Seaton newsletter called HAZARD YET FORWARD. It was very helpful, and there are a lot of notes in my file from it. But then the person that sent it out didn't want to do it anymore, and someone else started doing it, and politics and religion began to enter in so that I got seriously turned off and withdrew from the paper. But I'm glad I was part of it while it was at its best.

Yes, seems we are cousins. Even when I was getting that newsletter I never did come across anyone from our line that goes through Andrew Seaton and Polly Bowers. I was contacted once by one person several years ago who descended I think from Mary Seaton, niece of Reed Page Seaton. Only person I've "met."

My email address is greenleaf20@sbcglobal.net.
Elinore

I have the family notes. James Andrew, Reed Page's oldest son, named one of his son's for his father. Reed Page of Kentucky was my great-great uncle. I have two Ohio census reports that include Reed Page, reference's to him in Oren Andrew Seaton's book and another Kentucky book by Wm. Kozee.
I am also on the track of an unpublished manuscript that was
put together by James Andrew Seaton's daughter Kennie Seaton
Rupert. I also have the Daniel Secomb references to the Seaton family, but would be delighted to share your information. Thank you for your quick response. Your Kentucky Cousin.
