I’m researching my Fathers family and I’m in need of some assistance.
My dads birth father I know came from Yorkshire & born between 1903-1908 he was married but to who we don't know.

His name was John Sedgwick/Segwick/Sedgewick/Sedwick/Sidwick We know he had a sister (name not known).at some time in the 1930s he moved to London and this is why I’m having trouble.
I’m led to believe that when he left Yorkshire he cut all ties with his previous family and assumed a different name on arrival in London which is what our family knew him by, while tracing it back we can only go back as far as the time he arrived in London
I don’t know if he divorced his wife in Yorkshire or if he had any children or just left.

If anyone has any information on the above please contact me.

The most likely Emma is the daughter of Eleanor - she was baptised in 1819 in Sedbergh. I think that Eleanor was the daughter of William and Margaret but I haven't much more than that and its not written up on the site yet.

They could be related to this family but this is only a hunch.

Emma Sedgwick b in Kendal or Yorkshire

I have the marriage certificate for Emma Sedgwick, of full age (so the latest she is likely to have been born would be 1820) married to Richard Troughton on 1 Mar 1841, Kendal Parish Church after banns. They then appear of the 1841 census in Kendal.

My problem is that while his father is named as Richard (a weaver) on the marriage certificate, her's is left blank (possibly deceased?). I don't believe that she is related to the Sedwick clergymen as her occupation is given as servant which, I think, would be most unlikely for a clergyman's daughter - I may be wrong. I can't find any other records for her that might lead me to her parents and would be grateful for any help - thanks

Sadly, I do not nay more about Marmaduke Sedgwick. I was trying to work out where in my family tree he fitted in. By the looks of it he is perhaps a cousin to Richard Sedgwick (1808).

My side of the Sedgwick family starts with Duke Sedgwick (1854) - he is my maternal great grandfather.

In 1891 the family are listed as Shedwick.

There were 4 children - Eliza J, John W, Thomas H and Elizabeth. Mother Anne was married to a Thomas Peck in 1888 (FreeBMD). Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Davis Sedgwick in 1885 (FreeBMD). They probably come from Yorkshire - I think that Ann gives her place of birth as Aiskew - in 1901 she puts Bedale.

In 1881 they are listed as Davis - Ann being the wife of William Davis. She and the eldest two children are listed as being born in 'Biddle'.

If William and Ann didn't marry then this might explain why the children were confused about which surname was theirs.

My grandfather was born as Reginald George Sedgwick in 1911 in Marlborough, Wiltshire. His birth certificate also shows this. He had 4 other siblings with the same surname from 1904 to 1911. After 1916 other siblings appeared, but with a surname of Davis.
The 1911 Census clearly shows the family living as Sedgwick but the marriage certificate shows the Spouses as Thomas Henry Davis and Constance Mary Ann Mullens in 1904.
The marriage was on 27 March 1904, Marlborough, Wiltshire.
The family were living in Marlborough in 1911.
The siblings after 1911 were born in Devizes, Swindon and Wroughton. The father was a farm labourer and followed the work on the farms.
My grandfather married as a Davis, but his older sister married as a Sedgwick.
Thomas Henry Sedgwick / Davis was born in 1883 and Constance Mary Anne Mullins in 1884.
My queies are:
1. How can they marry as Davis
2.Show on the 1911 Census with siblings as Sedgwick
3. Have later siblings as have surnames of Davis
4. Only one marriage took place in 1904 between Davis & Mullens, none between Sedgwick & Mullens
Is anyone able to help or explain if this may be possibel

I found the family in the 1891 census (surname given as Ledgwick) and there is an additional child listed.

Susan Hannah Sedgwick was born in 1872 at Lucknow, India and married Frank Schofield in 1892.

I'm still looking for George before he left for India but no luck yet.

I am looking for details of ancestors or descendants of the following: George (possibly William George) Sedgwick born about 1845 in Leeds, who served in the British Army in India, and his wife Mary (or possibly Mary Martha) born about 1851 in Cork, Ireland. Their son William George, born in 1874 in India, married Elizabeth Ann Parker who was born in Newark, Nottinghamshire in 1874 - these were my Great Grandparents and they migrated to Sydney, Australia in 1911/1912. I believe "George" and "Mary" had another son, Albert, who was born in 1879 in India. In 1901 they lived in Wortley/Bramley, Leeds.

Also looking for descendants of Elizabeth Ann Parker's brother and sister: George Watkin Parker, born in 1870, and Annie Marie Parker, born in 1875/6.

My information - Thomas Saunders (b unknown) married Margaret Sedgwick and other spouse - Henrietta Louise Harris.
His son - born 1807 - Richard Taylor Saunders (think Pastor Anglican Church - London & Peckham, Camberwell, Surrey) married Mary Caroline Lindon (1821- died 1889,Plympton, St Mary Devon)
they had 9 or 10 children and Frederick Anastasius Saunders was my g-grandfather.

I know where you're going with this train of thought as when I first started the tree I found the Catholic ones with the similar names and I wondered myself...still do infact, as they are in the right sort of area. I believe that Catholic line is round Darlington somewhere if my memory serves me correctly, and mine are in the Bedale area but certainly were moving round in the same sort of area. I believe now my Joseph's parents were probably Thomas Sedgwick and Ann Hall. His line were from Patrick Brompton, but I think that male moved to that place because that was the home of his wife as I've found her family back through generations there. I don't know where he was from before that as I can't find any Sedgwicks there on the IGI...this is the connection I now need...I have several possible families but I need to get to see the records myself sometime. Ann Hall was from Redcar by the way.

I presume you have seen the www.Sedgwick.org webpages?
I am on there with my cousin as researchers under the "Places:Yorkshire:Bedale" string. You can contact me directly there if you think we might be on the same lines. My instinctive feeling is that there is a connection further back. Do you have any further information on older generations of your group, say before 1800 and where they were living?

A number of the names sound familiar (ie show up repeatedly
in my Sedgwick line. Some of the areas are also the same.
I would have to ask you - were they by chance Catholic
Recusants? If so there might be connections.
I'd be interested in hearing from you.
I've found that the 'i' or 'e' in Sedgwick doesn't mean
much, it changes back in forth through time.

Born in Waterford on August 15, 1916, he was a son of the late Henry and Gertrude Osborn Marsh. His wife, Audrey M. Davis, whom he married August 30, 1937, survives. Gordon was born and raised on his family’s dairy farm in Waterford. He farmed until 1947 when he and his wife established Marsh Sales and Service, a Waterford business that sold dairy equipment, appliances, and furniture. Except for a two-year period when he moved his family to Florida and sold real estate, Gordon continued to run the store until 1982, when he retired. His activities and interests included spending winters in Louisiana, traveling to places such as Africa, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, earning his pilot’s license, hunting, and gardening. Waterford, was born Oct. 19, 1850, on the farm he now occupies in Waterford Township, Erie Co., Penn.; son of John and Louisa (Rockwell) Sedgwick, latter a daughter of Jonathan Rockwell, one of the first settlers of Erie Co. Jonathan Rockwell was a prominent farmer, an early settler of Waterford Township. He died March 4, 1875. Louisa Sedgwick died March 17, 1884. Our subject was married Dec. 21, 1876, to Miss Ella M. Smith, a native of Waterford, and daughter of Charles Smith. This union has been blessed with three children, viz.: Bessie, Wilmer C. and Roy. Mrs. Sedgwick departed this life Oct 28, 1881. Mr. Sedgwick is an enterprising young man. Owns 140 acres of well improved land, a half mile from Waterford, and one of the finest residences in the township. Is a member of the F. &A. Y., Aug. 28, 1813; son of Aaron Sedgwick, a native of Massachusetts, who came to Erie Co. with his family in 1825; he raised ten children, six now living; was a prominent farmer and an honest man; he died in Waterford Township, in 1854. Our subject married, Aug. 15, 1839, Emily H., born in Erie Co., and daughter of Reuben Sharp, a soldier of the war of 1812, a native of England, and an old settler of Erie County. This union has been blessed with four children, three surviving, viz., Elmina M., wife of Wilson Marsh; Eugene V., who lost his life at the battle of Cedar Mountain (he was Second Sergeant in the 111th P. V. I.); Jermaine B. and Claude D. HIRAM SEDGWICK, retired farmer, P. O. Waterford, was born in Rensselaer Co., N. Y., July 16, 1808; eldest son of Aaron and Betsy Sedgwick, former a native of Massachusetts and brother of Louis Sedgwick, whose biography appears in this work. Our subject came to Erie Co. with his parents in 1825; he married Jan. 28, 1830, Miss Julia A. eighth child of Benjamin Grant, a native of Connecticut, who came to Erie Co. in 1800, with his wife and three children; he worked at an early day at blacksmithing and reared a family of ten children, five now living; he served one term as Poor Director. Two of his sons, Benjamin and William C. were soldiers in the war of 1812; he died in 1849, aged eighty years. Seven children were born to this union, five now living, viz.: Solyman, who received an honorable discharge after serving nine months in the Army of the Potomac, during the late war; Almena, wife of Hardin Marsh; Bertram, Louisa, Effie; Arthur died in his eighteenth year. Mr. and Mrs. Sedgwick are among the landmarks of the county, having lived together more than fifty years. The latter has been for over ten years an invalid. The former spends many hours of his old age fishing, a recreation he is very fond of; he is the owner of his father's homestead, consisting of 108 acres of well-improved land.

Gordon Sedgwick Marsh Gordon Sedgwick Marsh, age 90, of 218 Walnut Street, Waterford, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Select Specialty Hospital after an illness of three weeks. Born in Waterford on August 15, 1916, he was a son of the late Henry and Gertrude Osborn Marsh. His wife, Audrey M. Davis, whom he married August 30, 1937, survives. Gordon was born and raised on his family’s dairy farm in Waterford. He farmed until 1947 when he and his wife established Marsh Sales and Service, a Waterford business that sold dairy equipment, appliances, and furniture. Except for a two-year period when he moved his family to Florida and sold real estate, Gordon continued to run the store until 1982, when he retired. His activities and interests included spending winters in Louisiana, traveling to places such as Africa, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, earning his pilot’s license, hunting, and gardening. Gordon loved the outdoors and “working the ground” so much that in his retirement he continued crop farming. A man of high integrity, he was well-respected in the community. He served on the Waterford Borough Council, the Fort LeBoeuf School Board, and was a volunteer fireman. He had a strong work ethic and firm convictions, but most of all he loved his family. Those in his family left to mourn his loss include his wife, Audrey M. I am searching for the burial place for Irvin Murry Sedgwick. He died in New York City on April 22, 1916 at the age of 75. At times he lived in Jersey City, NJ; Pittsfield, MA; Rochester, NY; and New York City. His second wife Jennie, whom he married in 1904 in a Catholic ceremony, survived him.

Grover Cleveland Sedgwick, 412 East Fulton Stree, Meets Death at Fostoria.

Grover Cleveland Sedgwick, 412 East Fulton stree, aged 28, a brakeman on the Hocking Valley railroad, was instantly killed when he was struck by a grain at Fostoria Friday night. The body was brought to Columbus Saturday and sent by the Brown-Ferguson Co., to Athens, his former home, where funeral services and burial will occur Monday.

Sedgwick is survived by his wife and three children, who have been visiting his parents at Broadwell, Ohio.

Do you think it is possible that Jacob Adrain/Adreon might have married Keturah Cole under the name Sedgwick? We can't find a marriage record, but because of the birth of their children, it looks like his name was Sedgwick when he married Keturah in what we think was 1790.

Since the name change from Sedgwick to Adreon was not until 1806, I would think he would have married Keturah Cole as Sedgwick. That's just my guess. Please let me know if you find any new information on this family. According to my records in Family Tree Maker, Jacob was my 5th great grandfather.

Jacob was my 4th gr. grandfather. I can only find a marriage record of Sarah, his daughter, to John Hesser. I have the will of Elizabeth Bond Cole, who is the mother of Keturah. There are some land records in Jefferson County for Jacob, but they don't mention my Sarah.
