Seibels in Maryland?

Laurie Ann Seibel  (View posts) Posted: 30 Sep 2000 1:03PM GMT
Hi, my name is Laurie, I am only 15 years old, and have just began the long search for my family and ancestors. My grand father, charles joseph seibel has been searching for many years, he has come up with very little. He is almost 70 years old, and has asked me to try to find what he was un able to find. I have had no such luck. I do know that my grandfather is not the only charles joseph seibel, I also know that his father was not a charles seibel, but his uncle was. My ggfather died when my grandfather was very young. we have no information on him at all, or on his sisters and brothers. we do know that his father was yet another charles joseph seibel. that is all the information I have been able to find out. I am told that i have relatives in germany, and other parts of the united states, however, i have no information with which to locate them, so any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I am the great grandson of Charles Frederick Seibel (1854-1935), the Cigarmaker married to Magdalena Frank. Charles lived a very full life, and had three wives, the first of which was Magdalena. My grandmother, Anna (1878-1970), was Charles' first daughter. Other siblings were John H. (1876-1913), Charles (1874-); and perhaps two others, one male and one female. Charles also had a daughter, Eva L. Wilson nee Seibel (1889-1974), who was born in Connecticut to his second wife. I would be happy to speak with other relatives or exchange information on this family.

Hi Laurie,
How wonderful that you are starting this research at your age. Seems to be something most of us do when it is too late to ask our grandparents questions. My maiden name is SEIBEL. I have a family website. Please take a look at the SEIBEL branch on the site and let me know if you see any connections. We know a few who are in the VA area. You won't be able to see information about living people (ie the dates of vital events) because only family members get to see that after registering. However, you will be able to see photos and names (except for one branch that asked to remain "private"). The url is http://x.liebowitzes.com/genealogy/
Do a search on SEIBEL.
The oldest SEIBEL listed there is Yecheskal SEIBEL who is Moshe Zvi and Yitzhak Yosef's father(we think). You can do a drop chart starting with him.
Although these are all Jewish Seibels, there is a family story that a generation of 8 brothers existed and 4 (Avram Moshe, Mendel (my great gf), Hersch Melech, and Shlomo)remained Jewish, but the other 4 converted to Christianity. We would love to find descendants of those other 4...we don't have their names.
Family came from Poland and what was Galicia, plus I think also the Ukraine.
Look forward to hearing from you. By the way, we have many Charels and Josephs in the family.
Best
Roni SEIBEL Liebowitz
