Hi Anna;

My Grandfather was Angelo Serafin and immigrated to Australia from Cavaso Del Tomba in about 1924 at about 16 years of age. I will confirm this date later.

Angelo Serafin married Frances Rose Coverley in 1938 and they had three children in Kalgoorlie, Boulder WA. The three children are still alive Maxwell Serafin, Angelo Serafin and Delys Serafin (now Regos).
Angelo Serafin retired in Albany WA and died in 1967.

I would love any information that you may have as I am just starting to piece together my family tree.
Regards and wishes;
Bianca

Hi, the correct spelling of that name is Serafin and is very popular in this area. The Serafin's family still live in Wola Rusinowska and as far I remember their house is next to the shop on the other side of road next to church. I think they had a family in US. If you want to get a birth certificate you will need to write to Archdioceses Archive in Przemysl.

I don't know how many Serafins came to Winnipeg but I'm not thinking too many did. My Dad's mothers maiden name was Serafin her first name was Frances she was born May 27 1907 in Poland and she had a sister named Ann who also lived in Winnipeg but at this moment I'm not too sure when she was born. I spoke with one of my cousins and he had said that they had other siblings but not sure how many or what happened to any of them. Maybe there's a connection there??

Hi Jessica. Thank you for respond. My great grand father Jakub had a brother Martin Serafin born around 1880, so it could be your great grandfather. Would you ask your grandpa Martin if his father was also Martin? and names of his siblings? Jakub and Martin had also brother Jan (John) and a few sisters. One of the sisters Maria also emigrated to States, her last name after she got married was Maria Makowka. There was about 8 siblings but only Martin and Maria left to States, rest of them lived in Poland. This is all I know. Write me on my e-mail adress: wjoanna@cogeco.ca

Hello,

I wanted to share some Serafin info that might be helpful for others.
My great grandmother was Wiktoria Serafin from Moszczenica, Poland. She married Jozef Machon and she dies in 1917 in Moszczenica, Poland.

We know that she had a cousin named Kwiryn Serafin who may have been younger. Also, there was another cousin named Wictoria Serafin who was the mother of Kordian Zamorski and they were also from Moszczenica OR they may have been from Luzna, Poland which is another village that Serafins lived in and which is a neighbouring village.

You can Google Maps Moszczenica but it's important to use the following speling "Moszczenica, Małopolskie, Poland" and not just type in 'Moszczenica' as the regions are in a slightly different place.
You will also then notice Luzna which is slightly south of there.

It's important to trace the village or region that the familiy members came from as there are a number of Serafins but it's the village/area that can help determine which family they are part of.

Good Luck and all the best,

Anna Machon-Bartula

Frank came to this country in 1902 settled in NJ but by 1915 had moved to WI. He had married a Katherine Toffel. We were told that Frank had many brothers and sisters, some of whom had stayed in NJ, but know no names. Have you unearthed any new info. since your post?

 Michal SERAFIN, born near Krakow 1898, emigrated to Philadelphia 1914-1918, and Antonina BRZYSZCZ, christened in Lvov 1898, emigrated to Philadelphia in 1914, married in Philadelphia 1918-1919.
My father, Sigmund, was born in Philadelphia in 1920.
Michal inherited the family farm in 1923-ish and they returned to Poland.
In 1927, Michal emigrated to Canada and sent for Antonina and Sigmund in 1932, when he was granted citizenship. They lived in Toronto.
Michal became a carpenter and made furniture frames and hand carved violins and fine furniture.
Michal was supposedly an only child, but he must have had zillions of cousins, and Antonina had eight brothers and sisters.
He died in 1970-ish and she died in 1985.
If anyone knows anything about them, or about people who could be related, please give me a heads up.

Joseph Serafin b. abt. 1886 - lived Detroit, MI

In the course of researching my grandmother, I found information on the Serafin family. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Serafin, married name Bialek.

When my grandmother came to the US in 1913, she was traveling with her cousin Stanislawa Serafin. Stanislawa was going to her brother Joseph's home in Detroit. On the ship manifest Stanislawa's father was listed as Jozef Serafin from Linne, Poland. Stanislawa, as well as my grandmother was born in Linne, Poland. At that time Linne was in the area under Russian control. Today it is in the district of Turek, province of Wielkopolskie, Poland.

I did find Joseph Serafin on the 1910 Census living in Detroit. He was about 24 years old, born in Russia, married to Clara (married less than 1 year)and immigrated in 1904. On the 1930 census he has 3 daughters living with him Adalaide 19, Virginia 17 and Salma 15.

Hope this helps someone.

Nancy

Looking for information on Stefanie Sarafin, thought to be Polish, the daughter of Bolislas Sarafin and Anna Zithwitch. Stefanie was born around 1895 (whereabouts unknown) She married a William McGill in Scotland on 20 April 1918. Can anyone confirm that the name Sarafin is Polish and if anyone knows anything of this family please contact me. Pete
