Nancy Serena born about 1833-1836, Pennsylvania

I'm looking for more information about an ancestor, Nancy Serena. She was born perhaps in 1833 or 1836. The 1850 Census shows her at age 14 residing in Lignonier Township, PA. Father's name Joseph, mother's name Nancy. Anyone who can help, I'd appreciate it. I'd like a definite date of her birth, parents' births, and it may seem obvious but I would also like to know if the family was Italian. Thanks.

Hello. I am completely new to genealogy and I am looking for my grandfather on my mother's side of the family. She knows very little about him. He was born around 1923, possibly in March and he apparently lived in Los Angeles, California or near there around 1957. He may have had family in Houston, TX and I am told they owned a restaraunt in Houston or near there. My grandmother is not being helpful in finding him, so if anyone has any information or knows of anywhere I can lookor any pointers, please let me know. Thank you sooo much!

serena surname

Jennifer,

There is a book called the History of Indiana County. There on page 903, or thereabouts, is an article about the Serena family. My wife is also decended from Joseph Serena, but a different one from yours. Although there is a family connection back in the 1700's. We have used that article and census records to trace the family back. We have not found them before 1798, but suddenly they appear in Ligonier, Westmoreland County. There is also a file on them at the Westmoreland County Historical Society. If you or anyone connected needs more help, please contace me at nonnodgf@juno.com. I will be glad to help.Dan Fossa

Hello Valerie:
Thanks for contacting me on my message to this board.
Yes, I have been to Italy several times and have done
research there on my family. I had a cousin who was a
professor of music and his name was Giuseppe Serena
b. July 22, 1904 in Paderno del Grappa and he died June 27,
1980 in Cornuda where he lived. He married a Manuela Lina
Spano b. September 30, 1908. My parents originally came
from Paderno but immigrated to America in 1908 and 1922
respectively.

If you go to Ancestry.com World Connect Project Family
Trees and type either of these names you will see my
research on this surname. My parents names were
Francesco Serena and Maria Teresa (Rizzardo) Serena.

If you wish you can contact me at my e-mail address
taffy1@otn.net.

Frances
Yes. My mother was born in Montebelluna, her mother is a Serena. We were not sure how far back the Serena family could be traced in that town. I do know that the Serena family originally came to Venice as a pair of brothers who were glassblowers, eventually on the island of Murano. I don't have any other information at this point. How about you, what do you know??? I would love to hear more!!!

Have you ever been there yourself? I went back in 1986 with my mother. She said it was amazing how little had changed in all those years. It is a beautiful little town built on the side of a mountain, as I guess most of northern Italy is.

I'm also researching the Serena family. I'm interested in the branch that lived in Westmoreland/Indiana counties PA. As far as I have been able gather data, there does not seem to be an Italian connection with the family in this location. I have been able to trace my relatives back to Joseph Serena(1793). If you have information that goes back prior to this date I would be most please if you you would be willing to share this data with me. Thanks,George

Serena/Hays

I am searching for my mothers first cousins, Tommy and Juanita Hays. There parents were Jean Serena and J.T. Hays. Jean's mother was Margaret Serena. Margaret(maiden name unknown) was born February 17, 1891 and died July 1980 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Jean had siblings, Dottie and Peter. This Serena family was of Italian descent. Jean died when Tommy was 11 years old. Jean wrote a letter in which we have a copy stating who would care for her children when she died. Tommy and Juanita lost contact with their father thus with our family. I would love to find Tommy and Juanita for my mother. If anyone can help please contact me privately at sshore2@bellsouth.net.
