I have since discover that:
John R. Sermon is INDEED John Arthur Sermon. But the story the pregnancy on the ship doesn't fit, as Robert C. Sermon, was the oldest child & born in Bay City, MI.

I know this was posted many years ago, but I have considerable information on Thomas Croxford Sermon. He was born in Middlesex, UK, immigrated around 1872 to Bay City, MI, married Martha Harriet Rose (from Canada, according to Census records), and had 6 children:
- Robert Croxford Sermon[my,g-grandpa who raised my dad)
- Joseph Charles Sermon
- William Thomas Sermon
- John (Jack) R Sermon
- Louisa R Sermon
- Walter Sermon
(all the above is in Ancestry.com records now)

There's no John Arthur Sermon, that I know of, unless it was a previous marriage.

Any information you have (now that you've had a bit of time to unpack) would be helpful!

Diane, Just realised I posted reply to some-one else who has a query :-)) Thomas Crosford SERMON was born 1850 - birth registered in the December Qtr at Clerkenwell (London). I can find no marriage showing Croxford(Crosford) - plenty of Thomas's though. Will keep on looking through records, in the meantime if you obtain copy of his birth certificate then have a search made of the 1851 census for the address that appears. Another avenue is to look at the IGI for a marriage at some stage between a SERMON and CROX(S)FORD.

I have a birthdate for my grandfather, John A. Sermon, Sr. (I have to find my records first though!) but I know nothing about Thomas Croxford Sermon. Somewhere I have his wife's name written down and my grandpa's siblings names. We just moved in sept and much of my paperwork hasn't been unwrapped yet. The Thomas you found, born 1850, would work. My grandpa was born in the 1890's, he was the baby of five, I think, kids. I will try to find my paperwork on him and get back with you.

I will get back to you though when I have it.

I am looking for a Thomas Croxford Sermon of England. He was my gr grandfather. My grandpa was born in 1869 so Thomas would fall in earl 1800's? I don't have much, sorry. Most of my Sermon's ended up in Minnesota, USA. My g-pa was in Michigan, USA. My g-pa was John Arthur Sermon. Story was that his mom was pregnant with him, on the boat over to the states. Anything on those folks??

Joseph Sermon born Aston Birmingham in 1848 illegita.We are searching for his Father as that would be the main Family line.Was in Dunstable Bedfordshire in 1909.Married a Mary Ann Tranter in Birmingham at Aston in 1868 they had two daughters and about seven sons Mary Ann believed to have died in childbirth. Looking for any info on Rebeca Sermon born in Nov 1870 or 1871. She married James Henry Pierce (born 5-1842 in TN. They had a son Henry Thomas Pierce born 9-20-1893 in Grayson cnty, KY. I think Rebeca's parents were Issac Sermon born 1830 in PA and Mahala born in 1840 in KY. Any help appreciated.
