Donna, you said you have info on William Service Jrs siblings. Do you have any info on the sibling that was born about 1776? I believe William Service Sr is my great great great great great grandfather, as my ancestry goes back to a Moses Sarvis born 10/22/1776 most likely in New Jersey (his wife was from Hunterdon county.

Does anyone know if the service child born in 1776 to WIlliam Service (son of John Service who was from Scotland) may have been Moses Service who later changed his name to Moses Sarvis. He was born 10/22/1776 and married Mary Ann Johnson from Hunterdon Co, New Jersey and then lived in Pennsylvania. Any help on this would be great!

William Service of New Jersey

My wife's father passed away during the Vietnam War and she grew up with minimal contact with his family. I've been able to connect her line back to William Service who married Edna May Hall. They had a son Orville P. Service who was residing with Edna's mom, Henrietta Hall, in Newark, NJ in 1930. Orville was my wife's grandfather.

I would like to correspond with anyone having information concerning this line of Service. In the 1930 census, Orville is listed as being born in NJ, with both his father and mother being born in NJ as well.

Thanks!

Dennis Partridge

My Grandmother, Martha SERVICE, was born to Robert Heron SERVICE and Sophia JACK in 1887. Robert SERVICE was born in Ballymena, Antrim in 1843; his parents were David SERVICE and Jane HOLLINGER.

I have found no record of his move to Australia, but he settled in Tylden, Victoria, and with Sophia had 9 children. He died in 1898 and is buried at Tylden, Victoria.

I would like to trace his Ballymena origins and his passage to Australia, as well as any connection to Robert SERVICE - a great poet!

My GreatGrandfather, John Heron Service, was born in County Antrim in 1898. He married Sophia Jack from Middlesex, and they settled in Victoria, Australia, in 1850's. I have not found a record of their passage bu they are believed to have emigrated via Southampton in 1853. They had 9 children, including my Grandmother Martha, born in 1887. John Heron Service died in 1898 and is buried at Tylden, Victoria.

I am are researching the Services and have traced our Liverpool connection back to Northern Ireland. David Service is my GGGGGrandfather. I believe the Irish Services came over to N Ireland from Scotland- the coast being only 12 miles away. We did much research in the Linen Library in Belfast and found that the origin of Service may go back as far as the 12th century in Scotland. I believe that 'Service' originates in France- from a similar word meaning innkeeper. We think they came over with the Normans.

Hi Caroline!
I just got your message. Yes, let's share info. In fact, if you want to e-mail me directly please do so. My connection with the Service family is two-fold ( at least that I know of). My great-aunt, Christina McDonald m. a William Service. But I also found that My great-great-aunt, Sarah Maria Emigh m. into the Service family, but she was living back home at the age of 23 as a widow (per the 1871 Oxford County, Census). Have you been in contact with a Nigel Service? Contact me and we can discuss a game plan. I also have copies of census that I copied from Oxford County.
Amy Atwood

Service, Servis, Everett

I'm at a dead end (literally) and need help. I'm trying to find out what happened to Anna (sometimes listed as Annie) Everett, whose married name was Service (sometimes spelled Servis). She was born in New York in about 1835.
She came out to Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, in April or very early May 1879. One version of the story is that she was a mail order bride (from my late grandfather). Another version of the story is that she was a sibling/cousin of Adaline Everett (who was married to Joshua B. Servis' brother Galusha Servis (from another cousin)).
Anna was married to widower Joshua B. Servis in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, on May 7, 1879. Anna and Joshua had no children. (Joshua had a son, Adelkir, from his previous marriage, but "Delker" pre-deceased his father, as he died on October 31, 1887, and was buried in "space 3" of the 4 space lot in Bennet, Lancaster Co., Nebraska). According to the June 12, 1885 census, Anna was ill with cancer and was unable to perform ordinary household chores. Husband Joshua died May 12, 1890, just a few days after their 11th wedding anniversary. Joshua was buried in "space 2" of the lot in Bennet...which placed him in between his 1st wife, and their late son Delker. Anna filed her late husband's probate, sold off what little they had and was gone from the area apparenly by May 29, 1890, as that is the last date where I can confirm she was in Bennet, Lancaster County, Nebraska (or anywhere in Nebraska, for that matter). She is not buried there. She did not die there. She apparently had no friends there. Where did she go?

SERVICE

I am just returning to my family history research after a long absence. I would like to construct a family tree for SERVICE.

A good start would be to locate ancestors and descendants of an Agnes Service, who married a John Conway. They had a son William Conway, born in 1875 in Belfast, Ireland, who died in 1959 in County Durham, Ireland.

It is my ultimate aim to have a worldwide family tree for all people of the SERVICE name. I would appreciate any family tree information from anyone in the world who shares this same name within their families as I hope to make connections with them all.

If anyone wishes to send me information, either a Gedcom or a file attached to an email would be very welcome. I would be quite happy to send anyone who requests it all the information I have in return. I run Legacy 6 as a genealogy programme on my computer.

Thanks for your assistance, everyone. .
About William Kirby's SERVOS material - not to be trusted

While this short passage from Kirby's book may be entirely accurate, please be aware that Kirby's book AS A WHOLE is more fictional than factual. (He tended not to let facts stand in the way of a good story!) The premiere Canadian and American researchers of the SERVOS family have disproven a substantial portion of Kirby's writings about this family's history. Anyone in possession of Kirby's writings about this family should mark the material as historically unreliable so that SERVOS descendants inheriting the Kirby's material are not led down the primrose path all over again.
