I am a descendant of John Setter and Eliza Gowler from Manitoba. I am hoping someone may have an old photo of them. Also if anyone has a photo of Eliza's parents Oliver Gowler and Mary Braybrook. I have a picture of John Setter's son Andrew Setter and his wife Mary Jane Johnston. It's a long shot but I'm hoping someone has some old pictures they can share. cameron.frame@gmail.com

I am one of Neil's daughters. We know the family. We have made contact with Neil's mother, however, she refuses to have anything to do with myself & my older sister Trista, which is Neil's other daughter. His mother said she only has 2 grandchildren, and those are Jeanne's kids. I have tried to have a relationshiop with her and obtain some info on my father, but, Ms. Setter refuses to tell me anything, other than he was a very healthy man. She also told us not to contact Jeanne about this because of Jeanne's health. We are at a loss at what to do next. All we want is to know our family & what our dad was like.

Laura Younker Setter Descendents

I am looking for descendents of Laura Younker Setter. She was the daughter of Rolland A. Younker and Edith Fiala. She was living in Los Angeles, California at the time of her father's death in 1952. His obituary states he had great grandchildren, so I assume there are living descendents.

I have a very complete history for William Pancake Senior and his wife Mary Crawford. Laura Younker Setter is a direct descendent in this line. I would like to share information and hopefully find additional information about other ancestors.

Laura Younker had a sister Dorothy who was married to a Lazzeri, also as of 1952. Their residence is listed as Lakewood, Colorado. Also surviving in 1952 is an uncle to both Laura and Dorothy, and brother to Rolland A. Younker . . . Z.T. Younker of Dallas Texas.

Thanks. Sandy

Hi there. Through discussions with "older" family members, Martin had a brother Christopher. Sounds pretty close to what I have been told. Send me an e-mail instead of through this web-site. Can you give me more information re: your great grandfather? By the way, who are your parents and where are they (from and now)? Talk soon.

Elaine.

The Norwegian word for an upland chalet/pasture - like a summer field for the animals is sæter or seter... you'll find different spellings according to the time period and the dialect of the location.

I am also on a quest, seeking Setterau Germany and a town named Relchelshem where my Crecelius relatives lived before coming to America about 1740.

So much changed after Napoleon and the beginning of the German state, I was wondering if your family came from Setterau?

Good luck with your quest.
J Lee Cline

ps: Our ancestor, Otto Rudolph Crecelius's ancestors have been traced back to 1560 when the name was Krekelios.

Hi Pillip and Judy.

I am Gerald Setter. Bernard Setter was my great grandfather, Peter A. Setter my grandfather, and David J. Setter my father. I live in Lenexa, KS about 60 miles north of Garnett and Scipio. My dad still lives in Garnett, and my uncle - Martin Setter, and my aunt - Agnes Setter, still live in Scipio. It is a very special place.
I too am trying to tie us back to Rietberg. Perhaps you can clear something up - my aunt Agnes says her grandfather went by "Theodore". I presume this is the same person as "Conrad" - since that is the name in the records. Can anyone verify?
Where did you find the information on Herman? I am trying to find out more myself.

Please reply to: Jsetter@ix.netcom.com

Setter

Hi Judith
Surprised to get your response. I have had alot
of e-mail communication with one of your cousins
down in Florida, Henry Setter. I am assuming that you
are the Judith Setter Larkey that is the daughter of Edward
William Setter and granddaughter of John Boniface Setter?
I certainly have a lot of interest in the Setter
family and the area around Scipio, KS. My grandfather
was Bernard Edward Setter, younger brother to John Boniface and
the baby of the family. He left Scipio back in 1926 and never
spoke much about it. I made my first visit to Scipio in
July 2000 and found the cemetery at St. Boniface. It was a very moving
experience. I am most interested in a third brother by the
name of Herman Setter. Found some info that indicated that
he had a tobacco store both in Garnett and in Maimi County Kansas. Do you
or any of your siblings have any information on Herman. He was Bernard's
and Martin's brother. I have also collected some data on Martin's family. If interested,
I am willing to share.

Carole and Jo: I have just stumbled upon your exchange of postings of a couple of years ago. I sure hope you are both still "out there!"

Antone/Antony Setter and Susan (Winters/Winter) Setter are my 2g-grandparents, through their daughter Mary Ann (Setter) Fields (twin of Nicholas F. Setter) (1848-1934), their granddaughter, Althea Beatrice "Alta" (Fields) Sellers (1889-1980), and their ggrandaughter, Alice Marie (Sellers) Hauser (1915-1994).

I am in touch with a living cousin who descends from Antone and Susan's son, Joseph Setter, through Alice Margaret (Setter) Swift and lives in southern California; and with another living Fields cousin who lives in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Here is a note I recorded about twenty years ago concerning Margaret (Setter) Gamel: "She was living and married to an Unknown Gamel at New Auburn, Sibley Co., MN, on 19 Apr 1887 when her father, Antone, died -- in a fall off the rim overlooking 18 Mile Creek near his sawmill -- according to the Waiver of Service of Citation which I found among his estate papers on file in the Erie Co., NY, courthouse in Buffalo."

I will also try to contact you through your e-mail address, Jo. I am very anxious to exchange information with both of you. Hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers. Rollie Hauser

Rolland K.
I am also related to the Setter/Settertobulte family from Neuenkircken, near Rietberg, Nordrhein, Westfalen, Germany. I am looking for information on Heinrich Settertobulte who was born in 1845 and his father George Jacob Settertobulte who was born in 1811. Heinrich's son Otto Setter came to the USA in 1903 with a destination of St. Louis, Missouri. There must have been other Setter relatives in the St. Louis area. If so, I would like to know how they were related to Otto.
