I have found the record of the Shrawley Parish of the Church of England. I was hoping to find something there to take the line further back but the record was nearly illegible for the early years of the record which was the part I needed. I will have to keep looking.

Hi Ernie,

Just read your post, I have spent the last month or so resarching my tree and I too have reaced Bryan's place at the top of my tree but feel that we could go back further at least to 1537 when it became law for all Births, Death's and Marriges to be registered in England. I would be interested in joining your project. I can tell you that it would appear I am a direct decendant of Bryan as his four times grandson Benjamin moved from Shawley to Lambeth, London at the end of the 1700's and appears on the 1841 Census as does my great grandfather, Benjamin 3 times removed. Please could you e-mail me at Terry.Severn@tysers.com as I am very interested.

Hi Cousin,

By coincidence I sent you an e-mail afew minutes ago.

The head stone for our ancestor, John Severn, in Holy Redeemer does not list a middle initial--- just "John". I list his middle initial as "W" because of the census record.

I found a newspaper article about the train accident that killed William Severn in 1918. Let me know if you want a copy.

Thank you for your stories. I will keep my eye peeled for any connection we may have...My Uncle Will (John William) fought in WWI, My Uncle Bob (Robert Elias) was a Baltimore City Firefighter, My Uncle Walter (Walter Ellwood)was an area manager of some sort for a railroad in Wheeling, West Va.,my Uncle Al (Albert Eugene)worked for Western Maryland RR as a clerk. My dad (Edwin Franklin) started working for the railroad as a machinist and lost his job in the depression because he was not married. Later he got a job with the U S Naval Ordanance Labratory and during WWII worked on the Manhattan project (atom bomb).

If you would like we can communicate through my email meshmo1@hotmail.com

Just for what it's worth. My John Severn had a son William who died in a train wreck in 1917. My John's son Arthur Benjamin Severn lived in Pittsburgh when he died in 1939. The 1930 census shows that he and his wife lived in Alleghany PA.
I have nothing (yet) about the ancestry of my John Severn (1850-1902).

My grandfather John Troth Severn did not have any children named Christopher and his wife (1 and only)was Margaret Elvira Brandenburg. I have noticed there is another John Severn living in Baltimore in the early 1900's Perhaps that is your connection.

My Severn family originated in PA and moved to MD in early 1800's. My grandfather was a railroad man as were several of his sons.

Severn Roots in England

With help, I have found information on my Severn family line going back to Bryan Seaverne and his wife Mary in Shrawley, Worcestershire, England, UK. The Dictionary of National Biography puts John Severne b. 1500 as the earliest known Ancestor of the Severn(e) family who was also from Shrawley. It would seem that the Shrawley area is the "birth place" if you will of the Severn(e) family. At present I don't have the link between my line and the Severn line in the reference, but I would be surprised if they were not the same family. I have been working on my line in more recent times, but I am very interested in working on these very early ancestors and their decedents. I am starting a new tree called Severn Origins - England. If I can find a group that has similar interests, I believe we can really put together an amazing family tree that will help many Severn's know more about their family. Please let me know if you are interested in this project. I want to build a group of collaborators who can get this off the ground.
Thanks,
Ernie Severn

Shirley, thank you for the information about Asa Severns. He was my husband`s 3rd greatgrandfather through his son George W. I have not yet followed up on Asa`s ancestors. Does the family Bible you have give the names of George W.`s children? I have only Charles Edwin, who was my husband`s greatgrandfather.
Pat

OBIT: Caroline Elizabeth (Severn) Foulks ~ born Bucks County, Pennsylvania
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, June 22, 1905

MRS. CAROLINE FOULKS of English Township departed this life on Sunday, June 18, 1905, after a brief illness with typhus fever. On account of the contagious nature of the disease the funeral was private and interment took place in the Brownlee Cemetery on Monday. Memorial services will be held later on, upon announcement.

CAROLINE ELIZABETH SEVERN was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on December 16, 1842. She with her parents and family came to Iowa in 1856. On December 4, 1870 she was married to WILLIS B. FOULKS. To them were born eight children, four of whom died in infancy. Those who survive are SADIE, JOHN, VERA and JAMES, the youngest being in his twenty-first year. MRS. FOULKS had been for many years an earnest, faithful Christian. She possessed a pleasant disposition and made warm friends of all with whom she became acquainted. She was devoted to her family and her highest happiness came in being helpful to others. Two sisters, MRS. DAVID DAVIS of Knoxville and MRS. C.S. MCMULIN of Albia, and a brother, JAMES H. SEVERN of O'keen, Okla., are still living. All of the sorrowing relatives have the deep sympathy of the many friends.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert
August 26, 2004
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm
posted at this site with Nancee's permission

Highly possible but most unprobable. There are thousands of Severn families out there and it would probabloy take a supercomputer to get close to finding all the links. Still, the Elkington families all know where they fit in so perhaps we can get the Severns done - let's hope. I've been researching 20 years
Chris
