was his daughter Harriet Adeline Sexton that married A A Collier/Collyer? If so , I would REALLY like to have this information. I have heard stories all of my life that my g grandmother was 1/2 indian. I have no proof of this and would love to finally put this together. Thanks

Timothy S. Sexton 1861 - 1944, Scott County, TN., USA

I am a descendent of Timothy S. Sexton through his son Ethridge and his son William. As I do periodically, I was going back through my line to see if any new records had become available online that I did not have included in my tree.

I came across Timothy’s Death Certificate which states that his mother was Jane Strunk. I have always believed his mother to be Rebecca Griffith (born abt 1824) married to Emanuel Sexton (born abt 1827).

So, my question is twofold: If the certificate is true, which Jane Strunk is it? I have uncovered 3 possibilities, but found only one in the 1860 census, all descendents from Daniel Strunk, one his own daughter (born 1845) by his 4th wife (Susan Riddle) and the other two his granddaughters by his sons Hiram (Jane/born 1840) and John (Jane/born 1838, still living with her mother Christeene in KY in 1860).

All seem to have been born in Whitley County, Kentucky. Also, who is the Mildred Newport listed as informant on the death certificate? My grandmother had a sister Mildred, but she was married to a Pemberton, and Timothy is no relation to her.

My other question is rather obvious. Is there a mistake on the death certificate and is Rebecca Griffith Timothy’s mother?

Any help appreciated…thanks in advance.

PE
I've been told the south and eastern county lines of Clare have been moved quite a bit. I discovered this while researching my Sexton line of east County Clare (close to Scariff and Feakle) I am of the opinion that "my" Sexton line was in or very near Ogonnoloe (misspelt) near Scariff. "My" Sexton line may have moved there in the 1850 "s from Kilrush, County Clare. This belief is based on family lore (Irish branch) and some execllent research by a researcher in Kilrush. Will share what I have . Family lines in that area are Sexton, Jones, Hynes. Lou Gage

Using the information you provided, and combining that with an enormous amount of effort I have put into mapping VA land grants in Southwest VA, we now have ... [drum roll please ....] the exact location of Robert and John's land mapped to within several hundred feet accuracy.

This can be viewed at
http://home.ptd.net/~history/sexton_lunenburg.gif

Highlight the link above (if it isn't already) and you can copy it to another browser window to look at the mapped data.

As this provides us Sexton researchers with a lot of new information about neighbors and locations, then perhaps it may shed some light on Robert and John's origin.

The proximity of their tracts, IMHO, strongly implies either father/son, or brothers, as they are living cheek-by-jowl.

My question is: do you have actual metes-and-bounds data for either or both tracts of land. Having names of adjoiners was extremely helpful, but the precision can be improved if actual metes-and-bounds data are available.
Edith Eve SEXTON 5-6-1917 Scott Co TN, USA

Eadith or Edith Eve Sexton--born May 6,1917 to Freeman John Sexton and Sarah Burchfield Sexton in Scott County Tn near Robbins. She left about Aug 1935 with another girl--that came back home. Possibly went to Cincinnati,Oh area-was seen there about 1950 or so and she was not married at the time. She might have changed her name and gone by a family name of her mother's. I believe that she kept in contact with someone in the family or at least did for a while.
She was the oldest daughter. She had older brother,Clifford Leo-younger brother,Arvil Lee-sister,(Agnes)Marie-brother,A.J.-sister,(Theore)Janis-twin sisters,Martha Thelma and Mary Elma that were born in Nov 1935. She never saw the twins.
At this time, A.J., Agnes Marie, Martha Thelma and Janis (given name was Theore) survive.
I am the daughter of Arvil Sexton and Geneva Flatford Sexton of Anderson,IN. Daddy loved his sister,Edith, We tried to find her several times with the information that he remembered. This is VERY important to me. All 3 living sisters of Edith live within 40 miles of me and we talk about this often. Thanks for anything you know.
It is not impossible that she might still be living. My grandmother has a "surving" half-sister, Berniece Burchfield that is the same age and still lives in Scott County,TN.

My great grandpa was Feidlin Thomas, my grandma was Nona Jane Thomas Richardson, my mother was Mattie Richardson Sproles. How are you related? Maybe we can share information.
The photo is Freidlin Heison Thomas with wife Phoebe Jane Honeycutt Thomas, their daughter with child is Nona Jane Thomas, child is Ila. On back left is Willie's twin Ida,Monroe,Rhodes,(forgot which one of the boys this one is but will try and find out.) Hattie and Willie. Willie had a son named Glen Thomas.
Here is a screen shot of the photobook I am working on. As you see my information stops at Greenbury Thomas but I do have some info on his mother and father and the trail of tears they walked. His mother was Lucy Proctor, a full blooded Cherokee Indian. I have more info.
Please email me at iamaphotonut@gmail.com Let's exchange information please.

Thanks,
Teresa Sproles

I am wondering if this was Frankie Sexton that lived off of Darnell Road in Huntington, W.V. I knew his sisters Darlene and Sherry. He had about 3 other sisters also, that lived in Florida. He also had about 2-3 more brothers. Not sure, but if it is, I would love to get in touch with his sister Sherry or Darlene. We grew up together and have lost touch through the years. I believe he played a lot of golf. I can't remember, been probably 45 years ago. Thanks.

There is a Sexton mentioned in a will from the early 1920s in the Boone County Missouri court records. The Genealogy Society of Central Missouri (Columbia) is publishing the Boone County wills (this is in proof-reading stage).
There is a street called Sexton in Columbia.
If you send a search request (similar to your post here) we can publish it in the society magazine. Find the gscm website or the gscm page on Facebook and learn how to send up your query.
The more places you post the more likely that you will find answers.

I dont think that there is a mullagh in Galway but there is a mullagh in Co Clare and I would be a descendant of these Sextons (Co Clare)

Robert N. Sexton killed April 6 1945

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about my great-uncle, Robert Nesbitt Sexton. He was my grandmother's brother and he was killed on April 6, 1945 in World War II. He is buried in Arlington Cemetary. This is all I know of him. My grandmother was only about 9 when he was killed, so she was really too young to have much information on him. I would love to get hold of somebody that would have information on him or someone who would know how to find out something. What I would really like is to find someone who was possibly in his unit or had a relative who was that might possibly have a picture of him because all of my grandmother's pictures of him were burned in a house fire many years ago. If anyone couldbe of any help, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!

I did not know or have photos of Robert Nesbitt Sexton, b. 2 sep 1923 in Montgomery Co, Ky. His mother was Flora Spencer Sexton. Robert is buried (but not in Arlington Cemetery) according to WW II Casualty Listings after his death in Hawaii 6 Apr 1945 in Plot M, Row O, Grave 943 in the Honolulu National Cemtery of the Pacific (Punchbowl)on Oahu, Hawaii. He was a Seaman, First Class in the U.S. NAVY, with a Service ID of 9586132 according to the WW II Honor Roll. On the ancestry.com record site for military records about Robert N. sexton there is a photo of his headstone. He had such a short life, but his life was of value before it was sacrificed during WW II.

As far as I know, Rubie is not part of my tree, but I often read the boards to see if I have any long, lost relatives out there.

That being said, Rubie's mother was not a Sexton, but a Langston...it is the way obituaries are written. In this case, the father was Marvin Denton Sexton and the mother was Dolly Langston.

Since you stated that the particular information you had was Henry Franklin Sexton and Francis I. Barnes, this may not be your Rubie. If you are sure of her parents, then that would be my guess. Obituaries are wonderful resources, but not always accurate.

I hope you find her...good luck.

Well, that is interesting but doesn't really line up. I wouldn't have thought her mother was a Sexton...that's not logical. If she was born in Wild Cherry and adopted by a local pastor, how is her mother's maiden name Dolly Sexton? This is a wild one!

He spent his early years there, and graduated from Salem High School in 1949. He then moved to Indianapolis, IN, with his parents, and came to Washington in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He obtained an honorable discharge in 1955. While in the service he served with a hospital group, which enabled him to visit most European countries. In May 1955, he married Sybil Lishner in London, England. They returned to the U.S. in June 1955, and lived in Indiana, where Don worked for Chrysler Corporation. He also attended Butler University for two years. Two children were born to Don and Sybil while they lived in Indiana, and in 1960 the family moved to Washington state.

Don worked for a few years in the restaurant trade, the Bright Moon Restaurant, Country Club, and also managed the American Legion Club. He then went into the construction trade and worked in Texas while a member of the Laborers Union. In 1967 he joined the Painters Union, and for many years worked as a sandblaster on various dams on the Columbia River including Rocky Reach, Rock Island, Little Goose, Grand Coulee and Chief Joseph. After many hospital stays, the disease was in remission, however, ill health continued to plague him.

He sold all his property except where the family lived. He was forced to retire in 1980 due to illness. He suffered a heart attack in 1987, and since that time had been hospitalized with many illnesses and major surgeries, which he had beaten. In 1997 he had surgery for lung cancer, and the cancer returned in September of 1998.

He was an avid fisherman, and had been going to Westport to fish for salmon since 1969. He never came back empty-handed. He loved to hunt birds in Quincy, with his now deceased friend, Archie Oskness. He said there was nothing more beautiful than seeing a good bird dog on point. He also enjoyed many bird hunting trips with his other buddies. He loved to read and he stayed up most nights till 2 or 3 in the morning, voraciously reading everything he could. He knew about history, the Depression, condition of world markets, etc. He loved going to the horse races, here and in Arizona, where he and his wife purchased a home in 1993, and had been spending winters there. He loved an all night poker game with the guys, and before he got sick, he and his wife derived a lot of pleasure from dancing.

He loved music, and liked to play the guitar a little.

He was a past member of the Elks and Eagles. While not a religious man, he knew there was something out there. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyndal Wayne Stuart in 1985.

We will miss Donald sorely.

MAY THE WIND ALWAYS BE AT YOUR BACK, AND THE SUN UPON YOUR FACE, AND THE WINDS OF DESTINY CARRY YOU ALOFT TO DANCE WITH THE STARS.

Commemoration services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with Rev. Kel Groseclose officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The casket will remain closed at all times.
Rubie Sexton - Arkansas, USA Adoption 1907

Henry Franklin Sexton and Francis I. Barnes were living near Wild Cherry, Arkansas when Rubie was born in 1907. We believe that Francis died either from childbirth or complications. Henry had no way to feed baby Ruby and we believe that the pastor from the local church took her in and raised her. One of Ruby's descendants reached out to Owen O. Sexton in Olympia, WA, back in the 1970's. Owen was only 5 when Ruby was born and didn't remember much. Owen's only surviving son would be very grateful to speak with any of Rubie's descendants as would I (Owen was my grandad). We believe Rubie married Olen Stuart.

I would be interested in learning more about the parents of Timothy Sexton Sr. I can only trace his ancestery back to 1750. Could you pleas send me the info on his parents that you say were from Ireland. My grandmother Louella Miller (Sexton) was the daughter of Riley Sexton who descended through Moses Sexton. I have a web site that shows the decendents of Timoty Sexton Sr. If you would like I can furnish u access to the web site.
I have found out that Timothy's parents John Sexton (1734-1799) and Elizabeth Shannon (1740-1799) came from Ireland to one of the New England states in 1748 , and that two of Timothy's sons had moved to Arkansas while the rest of his family stayed in Scott County TN . I am descended from Timothy Sexton Jr. through his son Robert and Moses Sexton through his son Julien .

These are the websites I got my information from " http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?shannon::... " , " http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d... " , " http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d... " .

Also dsexton89 (below) submitted to a DNA test according to the results our line of Sextons are descended from an ancient group of people called the "Picts" who lived in the Orkney Islands , border regions of Scotland even though they came from Ireland to America . He believes there is some connection to a Sir Braxton Sexton that had moved from Lancashire , England to Ireland in the 1600's .
