died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at the Susque-View Nursing Home, Lock Haven.
He was born August 17, 1920 in Erie,
the son of the late James T. and Doris A. Fryer Shade.
On Jan. 13, 1946 in the First Church of Christ, Lock Haven, he married the former Freda Christina Cryder who survives.
He was a graduate of Lock Haven High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
He served a four-year apprenticeship as a tool engineer with the General Electric Company and continued his employment with G.E. working in Schenectady, N.Y., Brazil, and Wilmington, N.C. where he retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion, both of Lock Haven. He was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife,
he is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Dwight) Kraschnewski of South Carolina and Lt. Col. Pamela (Lt. Col. Thomas) Beikirch of Frankfort, Germany; five grandchildren, Kevin and David Sorgen of Lock Haven, and Curtis Watkins and Erich and Avah Beikirch of Frankfort, Germany, and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. Viola Tyson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Swissdale United Methodist Church.

Thanks for the photos Forrest. I have been working on the Shade line. All the info I received from my grandmother Hannah Schade Osner, you, and Janet's book have really helped. It is great being retired and having time to work on this. Do you know if Janet has updated her book in recent years? I have her address from the first book she sent me but would love to contact her. I wasn't sure if she was still in Florida. I did a search but couldn't find a phone number for her.

Edward H. Shade, 57, of 1522 Myrtle Ave., Whiting, died Tuesday at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Schlater Funeral Home, 1620 Indianapolis Blvd., Whiting, with the Rev. Jasper Cox of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Whiting Lodge 3, F&AM will conduct services at the chapel at 7 p.m. Thursday.

as a result of injuries from a motorcycle accident.
Susan was a 1972 graduate of the Milton High School, a 2004 magna cum laude graduate from the Bloomsburg University earning a teaching degree in elementary education. She also held an associate's degree from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in tool making.
Susan was active in the Community Theatre League, enjoyed traveling and loved riding her Harley. She was an experimental test mechanic for Textron.
Born Sept. 17, 1954, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Daniel M. and Doris J. Edinger Shade.
Surviving are her parents of New Columbia and a brother, Barton P. Shade of Williamsport.
Susan was predeceased by a sister, Danna L. Shade.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St., with Canon Paul C. Donecker officiating. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave. A graveside committal service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the family plot in the Mazeppa Union Cemetery, Union County.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions may be made to the church or to the SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.

In ill health since May, Martin VanBuren Shade, 85, died at 6 a. m. today at the home of a son, Curtis Shade, Inwood, Rt. 1, with whom he had resided.
A farmer in Berkeley County, all of his adult life, he was born in Morgan County, March 4, 1877, a son of Christopher and Mary Ross Shade. His wife, Mrs. Bertie May Masters Shade, died December 11, 1951.
He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Surviving are four sons -- Elmer, William, Lester and Curtis Shade, Inwood, Rt. 1; three daughters -- Mrs. Emerson Brown, Middleway; Mrs. Claude LeDane, Gerardstown; Mrs. John C. Potts, 236 West Martin street; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, E. L. Shade, 607 West Race street; two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Carpenter, Middletown, Va.; and Mrs. George Wisecarver, Bunker Hill.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a. m. at the Brown Funeral Home by Pastor John E. Kelcher. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Gerardstown.

My Nellie Shade was married to John Lewis Wilcox (both from Columbus, Franklin County, OH). Nellie was born 5 Sep 1868 & died 13 May 1950.

Trying to clarify some information about Susan Shade. Forrest provided me with quite a bit, but on piece shows her date of death as 8 Nov 1852. She was born in Sep 1832. The date of birth coincides with other records I have including her marriage to William Gregory. Because she also shows up on census records in 1850, 1860, 1870 and so on, I think the date of death may be in error. She is also listed as the mother of George Washington Gregroy on his certificate of marriage.

Would appreciate any info anyone might have.

You are correct. She married Glenwood Thomas Shade, Sr. (I am Jr.) on March 20, 1954. Dad died April 26, 1982 in Great Cacapon WV as a result of a hunting accident. Dad was a hunting guide. Theresa and Glenwood had 3 children: Ann Rebecca Shade (Miller) , Terry Lee Shade (Twigg) and myself.
