Jacob Schaeffer1724-1800\ Conrad Schaeffer1623-1666

In the process of following my tree back,i keep coming up with the same curious family relationship.I can trace an unbroken line back to a Jacob Schaeffer1724-1800 but i seem to always end up with his father being Conrad Schaeffer1623-1666! I never was too good in math but the dates dont add up , there is a 60 year break between the two. While visiting other family trees who have the same two persons in common everyone seems to take this relationship without question.I am just curious if anyone can help shed a little light on the subject.

Henry C. Shaffer b.1854 & Odessa Smock b. 1854 plus daughter Lavenia b. 1893 in Fayette County, PA

I am trying to find more information on my grandfather's sister Odessa Smock and her husband Henry C. Shaffer.
The 1900 census has them in Coal Center, Washington Co.,PA with daughter Lavina age 7. In 1910 they are in Redstone Twp., Fayette Co., PA. In 1920 they are living in Smock, Franklin Twp, Fayette Co. By the 1930 census Henry has died and Odessa is living alone in the same house her father died in 1914. Census spelling of their names varies from one decade to the next. I have not been able to find the death dates or burial locations for either Henry or Odessa. In Odessa's father's biography, {"Lavina") in the 1900 census is Lavenia. Does anyone recognize these people and might have a grandmother or great grandmother Lavenia Shaffer born in 1893???
Thanks for any help

Trying to find Daniel Shaffer's date and place of birth, his parents etc. He married Angeline Smeigh in 1859 and lived in Port Royal, PA with her when he enlisted in Civil War with a Cumberland County cavalry unit. He died at Andersonville.
Angeline was from Port Royal/Perryville, but he was not. Info on both is hard to find. I am direct descendant of their son Charles E. Shaffer, but am trying to locate the whereabouts of their 2 girls: Maud & Alice after the 1880 census. Any leads for this Daniel, Angeline, Maud or Alice are appreciated!

Jeanne A. Shaffer

Highland Park

Jeanne A. (Milie) Shaffer, 92, a long time resident of Highland Park and member of Sacred Heart Parish, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; sisters, Marie Pugliese and Teresa Ferraro; and brothers, Jack, Louis, Robert, William and Alcuin Milie. She is survived by her sisters, Martha Bosley, of Pittsburgh, and Ellene Summers, of Phoenix, Ariz.; her children, Maria (David Gordon) Shaffer-Gordon, of Pittsburgh, and Guy (Pamela DeMayo) Shaffer, of Colorado; stepson, Richard (Nancy) Shaffer, of Washington; three grandchildren, John, Daniel and Grace Shaffer; two great-granddaughters; sisters-in-law, Ellen and Maureen Milie; brother-in-law, Jack Bosley; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; and many, many dear friends. She was born in Vandergrift to Jack and Mary (Spaniel) Milie, and spent her childhood there before the family moved to Highland Park. Jeanne graduated from Duquesne University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She met her husband of 59 years at her last employment as an executive secretary at the Swindell-Dressler Corp. After marrying, Jeanne and John eventually moved back to the Milie family home to live with her widowed mother and raised their children there. Jeanne volunteered with multiple organizations, and served on the boards of the Negro Educational Emergency Drive (NEED), the Louise Child Care Center and the International Poetry Forum. She was chosen by WQED as Volunteer in the Arts in September 1988 for her service to the Poetry Forum. Jeanne was always an avid reader. She belonged to the Pittsburgh Bibliophiles and traveled with them to visit libraries in the United States and Europe. In addition, she was a Willa Cather scholar, a founding member of the Cather Circle in Pittsburgh and wrote the introduction to a book about Cather and an article for the Willa Cather Newsletter and Review. She loved the performing and visual arts, especially the Pittsburgh Symphony, and other classical musical groups, the theatre and art museums, and listened to classical music every day. Her other interests included writing poetry, photography, traveling in the US and Europe, and collecting turtles. Jeanne was a prolific letter writer until the last couple of years of her life, keeping the US Postal Service in business for many years. Family and friends could count on receiving cards and letters from her on their birthdays and other special occasions. She will long be remembered as a devoted, generous and loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012, and Thursday, May 31, 2012, in McCABE BROS. INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut St., Pittsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 1, 2012, at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Shady Ave., Pittsburgh. A celebration of life for her and her husband will be held Friday, June 1, in Vandergrift. Details concerning the visitation, funeral, and celebration of life will be published in this paper in late May. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pittsburgh Symphony, Donor Relations Department, Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222, The Willa Cather Foundation, 413 N. I have seen info on Ancestry that her father was John Nicholas Shaffer, but I can find no supporting documentation for this.

Anyone have these names in their Shaffer tree?

I hope that your David Shaffer and my David Shaffer are related. I have been trying to find the parents/family of David Shaffer born abt. 1809 who married Elizabeth Dibert. They ended up living their adults lives in Laughlintown, Ligonier Twp., which is where they are buried. Elizabeth Dibert's ancestry is pretty well documented, but I can find nothing on David Shaffer. Would you be able to check to see if you have any information on him? I can share with you what I have of my David Shaffer to the present if you like.
Barbara Obaker
Gibsonia, PA

Caleb Shaffer York = Jacob Shaffer, Hopewell Twp.

Hello. I've searched for several years for Paint Twp, Somerset's David Shaffer and his father, "Caleb" b. 1741. Turns out THERE ARE NO CALEBS IN PA DURING THAT TIME PERIOD. So by tracing Anna Catherine Berkebile (David's sister) and her husband back to York, I found that a "John Shaffer" warranted a tract of land on the east bank of Ebaugh's creek in Hopewell Twp, York Co, PA. His neighbor just so happens to be Andreas Berkebile, Anna's husband's father. Up the road 1/2 mi is Sadler's Lutheran Church, down the road 5+ miles is Peach Bottom, birthplace of Catherine Faust. Anna & David Shaffer both moved to Somerset about the same time, between 1799 and 1809. At the York Heritage Library, 250 E Market St, I found a Paul Shaffer from Somerset had done significant research that extended what I found, so I'm posting it below:

John (Jacob) Shaffer b. 1738? d. 25 Mar 1803 (per will, heirs weren't named)
m. to Anna Dillin?
lived at tract #1244 Hopewell Twp. surveyed as 270 ac in 1788. sold? to Adam Ebaugh by 1852.
per 1798 Glass tax, he was a farmer who owned a 23x18 wood house ($80) and a 42x23 wood barn ($444)

Children:
Jacob b. 1763? m. Anna
children (according to Sadler's Lutheran Church): Elisabeth (1791), Jacob (1795), Anna (1799) & Samuel (1802)

Anna Catherine b. 1765 m. Andrew Berkebile d. 1820 Rummel
children: Barbara (1794), Jacob (1795 and/or 1799), Ana & Eva (1796), Andreas (1801), Magdalena (1798), Jost? (1804)

David b. 1769 m. Catherine Faust 1799? d. 1854 Rummel
children: Moses (1797)unknown 1st wife?, Johannes (1802), Joscht? (1809)

Found out a lot of critical info from 1790's York tax lists, census in 1800 in York, and Sadler's Lutheran Church logs, but I'm still missing Jacob's upbringing. Don't think he came across on a ship (unless as an indentured servant), but instead part of a Philly/Berks/VA extended Shaffer clan. Any info on a Jacob Shaffer died 1803 in York would be greatly helpful!

Hi! I'm Christina. I'm trying to figure all this out. If this is the right family tree and I think it is...Cleve Shaffer was my grandfather and the brother of Odie. I have just started this search but some of the names you have match what my father gave me. If I can help you in any way, please ask. My dad was one of two adopted out so that explains the name difference.

Christina Grimes Hoffman

Gary, it would be helpful to post locations and dates. For example, I am Jeff Stewart, son of Fred Stewart. Fred lived in Washington and Lycoming Counties in Pennsylvania. Fred was married to Mabel Shaner who also lived in Lycoming County.

Having some information will help in the research.
