Hi Stan,

Because your link extends so far back, have you found a link to "the William Shakespeare" b. 1564, d. 1616?
I have found an indirect connection to him through the Wood family in the 1880's. Somewhere I saw online about William marrying and having several daughters. Still looking for that confirmation too.

It looks like you have traced forward from William to the present day? If so, did you find the marriage of Tamar Wood to Samuel Stokes ? Their son Samuel born in 1843 married Arabella Husselbee in 1863. Husselbee is my maiden name. I am trying to complete the gap for those obvious reasons. Can you help? Thanks!

I read your last post about John Shakespeare. What I am trying to do is connect the family tree between William, born 1584 through the years to 1843 where a relative of his was born by the name of Samuel Stokes. Do you have any information or could you reccomend anyone else?

Adah's father was Dr. J. L. Sanders. Adah's first marriage was to John R. Stewart in 1885 in Appanoose; after having children, they divorced and she soon married Elias Moss Fox, my relative--his third marriage. Hi, have just looked at your message to another enquiry re Shakespeares in Gloucestershire and wondered if it is the same as my ancesters. They were born in Hailles and also Ashton under Hill. My Great Great Grandfather was William Shakespeare born 1808 in Hailles but later moved to Ashton under Hill to have his family. My Great Grandfather is Charles Shakespeare. Is this the same family?

My grandfather was born in Calcutta, and I've found some records of Shakespeares who lived, worked, or served in the British Army in India while it was part of the British Empire.

I'm in a bind, though - my grandfather was an only child, and little information remains about which branch of Calcutta Shakespeares he was related to. Does anyone have any knowledge about any of the several Shakespeare branches who spent significant time in India when it was a British colony? I BELIEVE my great-grandfather was Maxton Charles Shakespeare, and he was probably born in Calcutta, but I've had trouble finding any records of him.

Hi,
According to the IGI John (born 6 or 31 March 1819 in Henley in Arden) was the son of Thomas Shakespeare & Elizabeth. It also names him as John Barker Shakespeare.
I have a Thomas S born 1782 who married Elizabeth Barker (b 1785) who I think are your John's parents. I'm descended from Thomas's brother George, born 1786 - you can see all the links on my tree.

I found your Sarah in the 1900 and 1910 US Census in Philadelphia. She is the daughter of Lewis P and Sarah K Shakespeare. Lewis is the son of Thomas M. Shakespeare. Thomas is the son of John M. Shakespeare.

Sarah's father's grandfather is John M. Shakespeare.

John M. Shakespeare is my 3rd great grandfather.

Thank you for the very comprehensive coverage of the Shakespeare clan. I am currently researching my line of Shakespeare. My grand, greatgrand and greatgreatgrand fathers all come from the Balsall, Temple Balsall area. I have read Michael Woods book but had not made the Balsall connection. It is not easy being sure of the correct lineage as the spelling of Shakespeare is so inconsistant before the mid 19th century without easy access to reliable records. I am at present having great difficulty comfirming to birth date of my greatgrand-father James, I know from the 1851 Census that he was born in Balsall to parents Henry and Rhoda but I can only be absolutely sure of this through his birth records, by my calculations he was born in 1838 but am not able find proof of this. One of these days it will all full into place.

I have found several obituaries from the early 1900's in the Free Lance Star newspaper for Shakespear who died in DE and were related to Shakespear's in Spotsyvaniba County VA.

Do you know of any connection between the DE & VA Shakespeares?

Shakespeare & Shakelford Surname

I am researching the Shakespeare surname in Caroline County, VA. Sancho Shakespeare (born 1799) and his wife Lucinda had the following children:
- Eliza (born about 1832)
- Richmond (born about 1834)
- Louisa (born 1835)
- Nancy (born about 1836)
- Matilda (born about 1838, married Dingo Rollins and died June 27, 1882)
- Beverly (male) (born about 1840 Died 1876)
- John (born about 1842)
- Martha (Born about 1847)

Several of these indivuals are living together in the 1870 census. However, their surname is Shackelford. I recall sometime in the past when I was looking up the Shakespeare surname in an index there was a note that said, "see also Shackelford". However, I can't remember where I saw this.

Does anyone know of a relationship between the Shakespeare and Shackelford surname?

I have a few details as amongst their children they had a daughter Hannah who married John Wattrus of Ledbury. They later moved to Birmingham and then emigrated to South Africa in about 1858. I have a few details on the Shakesheff and Hooper relatives.

I know of William Shakesheff born in Rock, 1797, who maried Hanhah Hooper in Ledbury. They had a large number of children, from which I am decended.

My Grandfather was a choir boy in Ledbury and was called Douglas Jack Shakesheff. He would have been born in about 1920, his Father was William.

I had a breakthrough with my TAYLOR line and after a lot of pouring of IGI records and such I have reason to believe that my 5th great grandmother is Sarah SHAKESPEARE christened 20 Sep 1801 in Brierley Hill daughter of Joseph SHAKESPEARE and Ann PARGITER.

If this is the right Sarah then she married Samuel TAYLOR 27 Feb 1821 in Kingswinford, STS and they had 8 children John (1821), Joseph (1823), Mary (1824), Joanna (1826), Sarah (1832), Samuel (1834), Elizabeth (1837) and Charles Henry (1839/41).

If anyone can prove or disprove this SHAKESPEARE link I would appreciate it.

Benjamin SHAKESPEAR(e) married Elizabeth MATTHEWS 1799 in Kingswinford - who are their parents?

Joseph Shakespear married Maria WOOD (born about 1829, daughter of Thomas Wood) - they married in 1852 in Kingswinford - does anyone know anymore about her family?

Benjamin ROUND from Woodside, Dudley (born about 1827) married an Elizabeth (born 1827 - 1829? in Kingswinford) - any ideas on either of them?

Mary Ann JONES (born about 1803) married Joseph Shakespeare in 1823 in Sedgley - I need help with Mary

Benjamin PRINCE married Eliza MASON (born about 1853) - totally stuck on both of them

Benjamin GALLEAR (born about 1846 in Tipton, son of William Gallear/Callear) married Mary Ann CHILTON (born about 1849 and daughter of Benjamin Chilton) - I need more info on both

I have done heaps and heaps of research into the Shakespeare's of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. I was looking on The Internet Free BMD today and came across:-

William Stratford Shakespeare Married Eva Bailey in June 1875 Certificate Number 6a 579. In Stroud.

If you send for the Certificate which will cost 6.00 Sterling then you will be able to find out his Fathers Name
