I'm preparing a book which includes the family of Abram & Martha Laura (Newman) Shears of Niagara co., N. Y. Their son George N. moved to Cleveland co., Okla. (Norman area) prob. in the 1890's. Sons James & Charles, daughters Bertha and Nettie (w/o Albert Cox).

Searching for information on John Phippard Shears born 1843, Poole, Dorset (my great grandfather. At 1851 census was living (aged 7) at 27? Salisbury St, Parish of St James,Poole, Dorset with his grandmother Ann Phippard (aged 68).

I just started researching my family tree and I am looking for more information on my GGGG grandfather and GGGG grandmother Richard Shears and Mary Chadder(Chatter).

Their son Stephen Chatter Shears is my GGG grandfather and imigrated to Newfoundland and Married a Catherine Morris but my real focus at the moment is finding more info on Richard and Mary.

Any Help is greatly appreciated.

David Shears - James Bosley

My ancestor, David C. Shears at age 4, according to the 1850 Census, was living with a James Bosley in Hardy County WV. By 1860 I believe James had dies according to a will of his father's, Jacob.

I can not find David C. Shears' parents or birth record so I do not know if Bosley was his father if he had just been "taken in"

I am told that either his mother or grandmother was a Native American named "Shawnet" (This is probably a phonetic spelling. This aspect of his heritage is visibly apparent in photos I have of my great grandfather (his son).

I am wandering if any other Shears who know of David or his story. Or if anyone might have some ideas on how to find information about him.

Have locd info (1860 US Fed Census) on my 3gm Elizabeth Shears-Sheers. The latter spelling is currently used altho the former is where the census is. She was born abt 1814-1815 in Eng. She md William(?) b unk date who might have been born in Eng. They had at least 6 children who are: Sahrah b. abt 1838 in DE, William Jr. b. abt 1842 NY, James b. abt 1844 PA, Mary A b. abt 1846 DE, Charles and Allison both b. abt 1852 in DE (twins). Charles is my 2gf. I am unable to loc. where they were before Monongahela Borough, Allegheny, PA in 1860. They moved to Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA where they remained.

I am trying to locate parents of Marie/Marion/Maria/Mariann (not sure which first name is correct) Shears. She was married to Peter D. DeVoe. She was born in 1808, and died in 1873. They lived in the town of Halfmoon, and were the parents of my great grandfather Chauncey DeVoe. Using the 1820 census, I have found three likely families, all from the town of Halfmoon. The names of the heads of family are Martin Shears, Isaac Shears and Jeremiah Shears. If you have researched any of these lines, and might know which one is the father of Marie Shears DeVoe, I would like to hear from you. Thank you.

Services for Mrs. Dollie Shears Rowland, 84, of 403 Mountain View Road, Anniston, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at West Anniston Church Of God with the Rev. Neil Pinkard and the Rev. William Ikard officiating. Burial will be held in the Old Pine Grove Cemetery, with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge.

Mrs. Rowland died Friday at Clay County Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Dovie Jewel Lahmeyer-Scott of Lineville, Ms. Dollie Nadine Bell of Los Angeles; three sons, Colon A. Stallings of Lineville, Valvard Floyd Stallings of Ashland, Jerry Nolan Stallings of Oxford; and a sister, Mary Shear of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be Val Stallings, Bobby Hamlin, Harvey Barnes, Samuel Shear, Keith Shear, Roy Lee Dix, R.J. Crumbley and Lee Dix.

She was a Calhoun County native, a member of West Anniston Church of God, a homemaker and a devoted mother.

I am interested in obtaining information on the Shears family members listed below who are buried in the Flanagan Hill church cemetery in Red Creek, Tucker Co., WV. None of their descendants have remained locally that can be determined. The only Shears family that can be remembered lived in Elk in the 1940-1950's and was headed by a man known as "Billy B" Shears. How or if this family was related to those below is not known.

I am gggranddaughter of George SHEARS b. 7 Nov 1820 Mayville, NY. He m. Louisa Emeline HARMON on 15 Feb 1861. They had two daughters, Cora (full name?) SHEARS b. @ 1868 and Mary b. @ 1862, both in Conneaut. Cora m. Frederick Christian WHITMORE in 1887, and they had George WHITMORE b. Apr 1891 who died at 15 yrs., and Bess (not Elizabeth) b. 1888. I cannot find anything on George SHEARS, his parents on back, nor his brother Spencer SHEARS b. 20 Mar 1821 (?) who apparently owned the Unionville Tavern (a stop on the Underground Railroad) for a time. Ran across this person while doing research. Many odd seeming connections with my Shears line. LE was born Chillothe,Ohio, where my GGGanfather James Shears lived and married. My GGrandfather John P Shears born there also. LE lived in Columbus, Ohio, and enlisted in WW1.
Address for LE was same block were my Parents lived, in 1935. My Grandfather was an Earl Shears, who lived Columbus, Ohio by abt 1933.

My grandfather, Earl Shears lived Ft. Wayne, 1910 to abt 1922. Anyone have city directory listings for those years? Earl's brother, John W Shears also lived in Ft. Wayne, maybe with Earl.
Also ran across Stepen W Shears m to Cora Bailey,with 2 children born Allen Co, In.
Don't think related to me, but, Earl is a grandson of James Shears m to Sarah Bailey in Ohio. Maybe just similarity of names, but anyone have info on S.W and Cora?

I just got my grandfathers, Clarence Franklin Walters birth records (b. 4/12/1899)and his father was William Walters born in Ill and his mother was Anna Shears of Indiana.

Can anyone make a connection to my gggrandparents?

Philena Dodge Shears was born near Ft. Scott, Kansas, November 23, 1828, departed this life January 8, 1906, aged 77 years, 1 month, 15 days. She moved to Missouri with her grandparents and was united in marriage to J.H. McClurg in 1844. It is remembered that Philena had a sister and a brother, Nathan Shears who came to Missouri also. In 1844 they moved to Davis County Iowa. In 1865 they moved to Greene County Iowa In 1872 they moved to Kansas. They were the parents of 13 children.

Who were the parents of Philena Dodge Shears and why did the children come back with their grandparents to Missouri? Who were their grandparents? Does anyone have information on this line? In 1828, this was Kansas Territory for sure. Need some help! Thanks in advance

James Shears of Greenbria WV married Sarah Bailey at Chillicothe,Ohio. Son John P Shears
later lived in Cedarville, OH, then Xenia, OH, and is buried North Cemetery, along with his wife Elizabeth " Lizzie" Cassatt (?), and son John W Shears. ( my direct line)
Also, Elizabeth Ann Shears, 10/5/1830 VA,to 7/23/1909, married William Bailey, (Chillicothe,OH),12/10/1834 to 9/24/1913, both at North Cemetery. Parents of Elizabeth, William Shears, VA, and Lucinda Steel.

John P Shears Born 4/1862 or 1864 in Virginia.First info I have is he lived in Cedarville,Ohio,untill 1908/9.He moved to Xenia Ohio,about 10 miles to the West.Died 2/27/1939 in Xenia,buried in North Cementary,Cedarville,Greene Co,Ohio.
Married to Elizabeth (Lizzie)Cassatt abt 1884,possibly in Xenia Ohio area.Lizzie 5/15/1862 or 4 to 4/8/1901.
Buried at North Cementary along with John and Lizzie is Son John W Shears,8/1984 to 10/6/1918,Indiana Pvt. 336 Inf. 84 Dev.
Son Earl Shears,9/1889 to 6/1980 Columbus,ohio
Daughter Lena Mae 11/1891 to ?. Maried Vernon Tobin, I assume Xenia,Ohio
3 other children mentioned in 1900 Ohio census as not alive at that time.No names/info.
Info on where John P came from, and Military info on John W is what I have not found. John W may have moved to Indiana.

John W,was son of John P Shears, of Cedarville/Xenia, Ohio. I found he had moved from Xenia area, to Ft. Wayne Indiana,
where his brother, my Grandfather Earl Shears, lived. He entered the Army, 26 June, 1918.
Don't know how long he was in Ft. Wayne, and looking to see if maybe he was there long enough to have married.
Any info would help, or contact with Shears that area.

Mr.SHEARS had lived in Xenia thirty years,coming here from Cedarville.Besides his daughter,he leaves a son,Earl,of Columbus;four grandchildren,two great grandchildren;a half brother William KRAMER,and a sister,Mrs.Margurite ARNETT, both of Columbus.his wife,Mrs.Elizabeth Shears,preceded him in death
Funeral services will be at the Tobin home Wednesday at 2 pm,in charge of Rev.E.A.Wall of Trinity M.E.Church,with burial in North Cementary,Cedarville.Freinds may call at the home Tuesday evening.

More than 2 years spent searching for Winifred Leigh. Found recently that she was born Winifred Ada E Shears 31 March 1895 in London to Charles William Shears and Ellen Shears (formerly Chandler). Lived in China for some years and returned to UK via ship from China, Canadian railway across Canada and then Minnedosa ship from St John to Liverpool, arriving May 1 1919. By then she was Winifred A Leigh travelling with 4 year old Raymond W Leigh, both US citizens. She either married a US citizen Leigh in US, UK or China and after returning to UK, some years later emerged on the stage without Raymond or family Shears forevermore. Applied for British passport about 1930. Desperately trying to find the Leigh connection - maybe adopted by a Leigh or married a Leigh. Some big story as previous identity was obliterated and only partially discovered 80 years later through much research.
