Re: Photos- Calvin and Grace Sheldon, Dorset Vermont

Sheldon Young. Stephen Young (b. 1777) in Arlington married Lucy Marsh, then living with her grandparents in E. Dorset, about 1799. Stephen and Lucy emigrated to Ontario, Canada shortly thereafter. They named a son Sheldon Young (1819-1884), which raises the possibility that Stephen Young's mother was a Sheldon. No correspondent in the Young or Marsh families has been able to find Stephen's parents, so I am looking for clues.

The Marsh family were original settlers of Manchester, but moved to Dorset shortly before the Revolution.

Wilson Brown Denver

Amasa had another son, Clark, who married Jessie Wilcox, produced son Howard, son Vincent, daughter Helen who was my mother. When she was 2 yrs old, 1908, Her father "disappeared". When she was 4 yrs old Jessie died. The story I heard is that Amasa tracked down Clark in Duluth MN, told him of Jessie's death. Clark then married Clara Olander who had a sibling in Montana. Clark and Clara went to Opheim MT, homesteaded there, had three children: Percy, Margaret, Lynn. Just found Margaret's obituary..her married name was Hallock. Picture of her too. She died last November. Clark was apparently part of the Fort Peck Dam crew. He died in 1948. Percy was an engineer on Great Northern RR; Lynn graduated from U of MT...in forestry(class of 1950).
Don't know anything about Bion.

Who were her parents?
Can you perhaps fill me in as to the details of this "lie"?

I've had my gen records verified through the Roger Williams Family Ass. as far as the William Sheldon (son of John and Joane) connection goes.

Thanks kindly for any clues!

John Sheldon obituary

I am transcribing obituaries from The Scotia Register (Scotia, Nebraska).

The Scotia Register
Volume XXX, Thursday, May 1, 1924, pg. 1, column 1
Another Pioneer Gone
---
Word reached us that John Sheldon passed away at his home in North Loup early Monday morning. Mr. Sheldon was one of the very earliest settlers in the North Loup Valley. He came with the locating committee the S. D. Baptist colony sent out in the autumn of 1871. He was one of the first to locate a homestead n Greeley county, and was for many years a prominent citizen of this country. He was county treasurer for two terms, and one of the first merchants in the town of Scotia. In 1879 he opened a very good store for that time, and remained in the mercantile business for some years. Mr. Sheldon came to Nebraska from Wisconsin where he grew to manhood and where he was married to Miss Brown, who died a few months ago. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ida Lewis, and three sons, Irving, Louis and Howard.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

I am looking for information about Anna M. Sheldon (b. abt 1906, VT). She is listed as a grand-daughter in the home of Dwight & Mary Sheldon on the 1910 cenus. They family lives on Kilington Road in Mendon, VT. The Sheldon family was probably friendly with the family of Elmer & Ida Hinckley who lived on Notch Road in Mendon. I have a picture of Anna Sheldon which she apparently gave to John H. Hinckley, the back says "From your girl Anna Sheldon to John Hinckley". Any information is appreciated.

So far the John Sheldon who is in our tree and whose father is Nathan and mother Barbara Simmonds as I find them in the 1870 census in Indiana, does not appear to have Michigan connections. I just begun to explore this branch, however.

I have some Sheldons in my tree, and my ancestors were also in Sanilac County. I wonder if there is a chance that our trees are connected.
John Sheldon and his wife Elizabeth Osborn (e), Osburn

Now that I know the correct first name of our ancestor, I'm wondering if anyone else has been researching this particular Sheldon. I still don't know where in Ohio his parents lived nor do I have any direct info on his wife. I do believe John's father emigrated from Ireland, but I don't know when or where he entered the country. I know nothing about his wife whose parents may have come from PA.
contact me here or at clickaandd@gmail.com

I found them!! I searched on their daughter, Alminta's name in the 1870 and 1880 censuses and there they were. So I can now correct Alminta's father's name to John Sheldon. I still haven't found a marriage certificate or birth/death info, but I know they were both born in Ripley County, IN and John's parents were born in Ireland, but Elizabeth's were born in the states. So I'll keep searching her,but at least I have John!!
Ann

Am seeking any info about James Sheldon born somewhere in OH and married Elizabeth Osborne possibly in Indiana. They lived in or near Ripley County, IN as that is where Alminta Ora was born in 1881. Contact me at clickaandd@gmail.com and/or here.
Ann
