Thank you for the information. I cannot find them in census or birth/death certificates. I am related to them by Meredith Shoemaker's daughter Polly. Polly married Albert Hardin and and had a son Irvin, and he would be my great great great grandpa. I saw where some family trees on here have tarlton's dad as John Shoemaker? Do you have any more information on this family? Thank you!

Hi Jim.

I'll do some looking around, but in the mean time here is a hint to pursue: The middle initial H. may stand for Hanjost which is the long form for Jost. Use those names in the search for his father. I will look through my resources as well. Best of luck.
Greg

I'm stuck on a Jane Shoemaker who married Samuel Toops in Ross County, OH on 13 Sep 1827. I haven't seen what information exists for this marriage record such as witnesses, etc. I have yet to find parents for Jane.

Some of the Shoemakers in Ross County at the time were children of a David Shoemaker, but haven't linked Jane to him or anybody else.

Jane probably would have been born in the 1790s. She may have died by 1850, because in the 1850 US Census for Ross County, Samuel's wife is listed as Cristina. I have found no marriage record for a Samuel Toops to a Cristina.

Here's the link below for the VA facility, although it looks like there's now a brick and mortar facility. Times have changed.I'm a retired veteran myself now, so I would like to visit the place again just to see the changes.

http://www.martinsburg.va.gov/about/index.asp

I Googled the Mount Washington School for Boys and there's a responsive set of links to it.

Leonard's death was at Indiantown Gap which was an Army installation as well as a POW camp. The rest of the story is my best recollection; Leonard was killed in a 'range accident' and I think I saw the coroner's sketch of the path of the bullet through his thoracic cavity. That's all I can recall. He died in early to mid-November 1945, so my father, Dudley, and your grandfather, Charles, were discharged earlier than the "duration plus six months" that their terms of service included. From my glimpse of the records at the Suitland Records Center in the late 1990s, Leonard's remains were transported to Baltimore, and Anna had him interred in her burial plot in the New Cathedral Cemetery where she would be buried later.
At the time I saw the records, they were not "archival" yet, so they may have been moved to St. Louis sometime after that.
Your grandfather,Charles, and my father, Dudley, used to visit Anna in the Martinsburg WV facility at least once a month. Sometimes, I would accompany them. The facility was huge; a series of interconnected single story structures that housed mainly WWII (and I suspect some Korean War) vets. They were mostly multiple amputees and rather severely limited. Anna was in a ward for females, and she received good care. She really got up for the visits, and when I was ready to depart for Vietnam, I visited her on my own, with my girlfriend, later my wife. I saw her after I returned and Arlene and I went down to see her several times before her death. I will check if the facility still exists.

Hope this helps.

Leonard

Very cool!

I know all that my mother and greandmother thought they knew was he was mentally ill and left Perry Point and thought he had been killed by a car accident. I thought war seemed more likely. Possibly not any less tragic, but a likttle less drama. How honorable. I know my uncle Chuck used to present projects at Indiantown Gap. Small world.

Some years ago, I found some files at the Suitland Federal Records Center on my Uncle Leonard.I used his service number and found that only the records of his burial allowance and related items survived and they indicated that Anna was the recipient of the remains and the burial funding. I didn't make copies then, but since that time, the records are now archival and supposedly accessible. I'll play around on Google and if I find anything, I'll let you know.

Leonard.

I am your mother's first cousin. Your grandfather was my Uncle Charles; and your Uncle Chuck and I both went to Loyola (he by day and me by night). My Mom and my memory are the source of much of my information, and Mom is well into Alzheimers, so that sort of leaves me. If you have questions, I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

Anna Veronica Flannery Shoemaker was my paternal grandmother. Dudley Marvin Shoemaker was my father. Leonard Wilson Shoemaker died at Indiantown Gap in 1945 while on active duty with the US Army. His service number was 33560332 and there is a record in the National archives under that service number.

Anna was a resident for many years at the VA Center in Martinsburg, WV where she died essentially of old age in 1972. She is buried in the same plot as her son, Leonard in the New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore. She never remarried.

Dudley Marvin (Senior) remarried a woman named Martha Steele in Florida and I believe he died in Florida. My mother was in intermittent contact with Martha Steele, but I cannot confirm this.

GEORGE - Daniel Russell Ward, 92, loving father and husband,
peacefully returned to his Father in Heaven on April 14, 2007 at home
surrounded by his family.

He was born July 19, 1914 in Blackfoot, Idaho to John Logan Ward and
Clara Sophia Sommercorn.

He married Rittie M. Good on May 14, 1943, they had two daughters,
Danna Gayle and Jean Kayetta. They were later divorced. He then
married Lonnie Earline Jarrell in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9,
1956. They are the parents of Rebecca Lee and John Russell.

Dan was raised in Blackfoot during the depression years, third in a
family of nine. He was very involved in Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle
award in 1931. He enjoyed being outdoors, swimming in the Snake River,
and biking to Yellowstone with some of his friends and brothers.

He left home to join the Army Air Force in 1937 and faithfully served
his country in England during WWII, achieving the rank of Master
Sargent. During this time he was able to increase his knowledge of
aviation, serving as an instructor and a technician, designing,
building and maintaining airplane instrument test equipment. When the
war ended he returned to Amarillo, TX and began to work as an
apprentice carpenter and soon became a master finish carpenter. His
skills were used to help build the first LDS chapel in Amarillo, he
built the podium, sacrament table, and hung the doors. Even after he
left carpentry as a profession, he continued to share his wood working
gift with his family and friends.

He returned to college in 1957 and in 1962 received his BSEE from the
U of U. His first job as an electrical engineer was with General
Dynamics in San Diego, CA working on the Atlas missiles. After about
1-1/2 years he left there and moved to St. Louis, MO where Dan went to
work for McDonnell Douglas. He eventually retired from there in August
1979.

While in St. Louis, he developed an avid passion for genealogy work
and assisted in organizing the St. Louis Genealogical Society of which
he was a life time member. Dan's passion for genealogy included temple
work for his ancestors.

When he and Lonnie retired they chose St. George, UT for their home
for three reasons: a temple, great fishing and warm weather.

Dan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and served in many callings, one of the most important in his
opinion was as a home teacher. His greatest accomplishment however,
was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lonnie Earline of Santa Clara,
Ut; daughters, Danna Gayle (Bennie) Garcia, Amarillo, TX and Rebecca
(Scott) Doty of Santa Clara, UT; son, John Russell (Rebekah) Ward of
St. George, UT; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren with
two more on the way.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Jean Kayetta, first wife, Rittie,
four brothers, two sisters and great granddaughter Alexa Grace.

We will miss you Daddy . . . till we meet again at Jesus' feet.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 11 a.m.,
Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the
services at the mortuary.

Interment will be held in the St. George City Cemetery under the
direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.

Condolences may be sent to the family through the Metcalf website at
www.metcalfmortuary .com
---------------------------> end of file <----------------------------

Wiley Alston Jarrell
15610 Edenvale
Friendswood Tx, 77546
wajarrell@earthlink.net
281-482-3671 <>< Mark 12:29-31
It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance. Yes, your grandfather is my Great grandfathers brother. My family tree shows William Johnson married to Ella Parsons and then to Maude Fields, but I have no dates for them. Nor do I have any Descendants listed for them. It would be nice if I could get that information so I can update the family tree. Could you help on this?

Yes, Kathleen married a Holland and her daughter, my mom, married a Smith. I'm 52 years old living in Summerville, SC. Mom and Grandma were born in Dolomite, AL. If you wish to continue this, my email is Bryan-k@knology.net.

Samuel was only my GGG Grandfather and Oliver was my GG grandfather then Sarah Eliz Shoemaker was my G Grandmother...This is where we part ways because Sarah and John William Johnson were married and had my Grandfather William Oliver Johnson who must have been your G Grandfather Francis's brother so we aren't too far from the same tree..One of Francis's daughters Kathleen must have married a Holland then one the the next generation daughters married a Smith..I'm 71 years old so must be much older than you.. I live in Carrollton, Georgia and was raised in Bessemer, Alabama.. Not far from where all this started.. But i just got this information for my cousin.. Thanks

Joseph Aubrey married to Mary Shoemaker or Mary Prewitt??

When I got my genealogy from my cousin Carol Anne in 1979 [and she had done some very extensive research] she stated that Joseph Aubrey/Awberry married Mary Prewitt, 14 July 1823 in Hardin County, KY. And we have been going with this every since.
In about 1999 my mother and I went to Springfield, IL and since it was so close to Missouri and we were going to have to rent a car while we were there off to Linn Co., MO we went. This is where Joseph and Mary had settled and raised their family. We meet with Mae Couch [expert researcher for Linn and Chariton Counties in MO]. Mae has written quite a few books on the area and taken some excerpts from local information. In one book were excerpts from the local paper. In it was the obit for Joseph Aubrey and it stated that his wife was Mary Shoemaker, they had 13 children and he died on 30 June 1889 in Linneus, Linn Co., MO. As Mary Shoemaker was not the wife I had listed I wasn’t sure what to do and figured that the person who gave the information made a mistake [something we see all the time]. Mary died 12 Feb 1875, Linn Co., Missouri.
In about 2005 my cousins Jan and Bart McKee went to Lexington, KY for a work conference and of course being genealogists they did some research. I sent the Joseph and Mary Aubrey info with them in case they tired of doing their own research. They came back with copies of the marriage records for Joseph Awberry and Mary Prewitt. So again I dismissed the Mary Shoemaker and just miss information.
And everywhere you go on the internet there is a Joseph Awberry married to Mary Prewitt. So of course it is right. But there is still in the back of my mind that maybe there was a 2nd marriage and that is where the Shoemaker came from. I did a search on Ancestry.com for marriages in Missouri for a Shoemaker and found nothing. Since I am pretty sure that Joseph didn’t go out of state to have a 2nd marriage I again dismissed it as a mistake.
Come 2010 and on a trip to Salt Lake City and a visit to the Family history Library and I looked at the micro film for Hardin Co., KY marriages and I looked for something about a Shoemaker marrying anyone and found nothing but there was the records for Joseph and Mary Prewitt. So again I dismissed Mary Shoemaker.
During this time I connected with descendents of Roland Awbrey [they live about 5 miles away as the crow flies] and Kathy stated that she thought that Joseph was the son of Roland and not Samuel as we had. Something to think about.
In January 2012 I found out Fold3 had War 1812 pensions online. I knew that Joseph had applied or a pension and so went looking for it and found it. And there in black and white was Joseph stating that his wife was Mary Shoemaker and they had married in 1820 in Hardin Co., KY. I know this is my Joseph because he is in Linneus, Linn Co., Mo in the 1870’s.
I have looked in the census for another Joseph Aubrey and can’t find him. There is a rumor that there was a Joseph in St Louis MO and maybe his son in California.
My Joseph is married to Mary Shoemaker even though there is no record so far in Hardin Co. KY. But who is his father Samuel [like I have] or Roland?? Where did the other Joseph and Mary go?? Are there 2 Joseph’s married to 2 Mary’s? And how do I prove it.

Sorry, but it doesn't appear that these people in any way connect with the research I have.

I only have three Simmons in my database and none with a North Carolina connection.

Your 2nd great grandmother Eleanor Shoemaker is the oldest daughter of David Shoemaker of Ohio and Polly North of Indiana. They were married 24 Feb 1842 in Dearborn County, Indiana and are enumerated in neighboring Ohio County, Indiana, along with their son Asa and daughter Eleanor, during the 1850 Federal Census.

Best of luck with your research, sorry I wasn't of any help.

Lonnie
I have an ancestor, named Eleanor E Simmons. Her maiden name was Shoemaker, she was born in Indiana about 1849 (I believe). She married my GGGrandfather, William I Simmons. They moved to Hardin County, IL. I am looking for some information on her that might lead to some info on William's father, John Simmons. John Simmons was born in what is now Alexander Co, NC around 1800, as was William in 1839.
I have noticed your participation in several topics of Shoemaker and one involving Shoemakers in Iredell Co, NC.
Alexander Co was formed out of 3 other counties, in 1850 approx. One of those Co's was Iredell Co, NC. I find that an interesting coincidence. I cant find any other info on John Simmons, or go any further up in that line. Now I am pecking around the edges, looking for some clues that might help me narrow down some more Simmons info.
Anything you could help me with, would be great. Thanks.
