I have researched James Shone arriving in Tasmania as a convict and he went to Portland Victoria and was married there on the 31 Jan 1846 and then moved to Mt Gambier S.A..they had 13 children,and was buried in Nhill Victoria in 1901.Their Daughter Catherine married James O'Connor and they are my husband's grandparents.I am not a member on here,so my address is 34 Hope street Dimboola Victoria 3414 Australia.

The William Shone I think you are referring to was born 1860. I do not know of a William Shone of the dates you give.

Our lot must have been a bit of a bad bunch, Thomas. his mother Hannah his brothers Robert and William were all tried at SALOP
All except Hannah were transported to Aust although Thomas made good, one died and William twice was tried in Tas

This must be a different Shone - there are lots of them! My lot were in Wales, then Liverpool and further afield in England, though a few relatives emigrated to Canada and New South Wales.

A Thomas Shone was our g.g.g.grandfather, and while there are two Thomas Shones that i am aware of, i am finding it difficult to find any information about our Thomas shone before he was sent to Australia as a convict.

thanks so much for your help,I now feel at a dead end,I can only find 1 James that is old enough to be Basils ggrandfather,somebody must have come across who James Shone that was transported to Tasmamia in 1831 belongs to,as I am now not sure after reading the History I was sent is the right one,his trial papers say he was 21yrs and he was married in 1846 and died in 1901 at the age of 78yrs and was a shoemaker born in Wales as per death certificate.It makes it hard when you are on the other side of the world.

Hello the James Shone I am researching went to Tasmania as a convict,who went to Portland around 1843 and was married there,I have the marriage certificate,The story passed down was that he went to tasmania with his brother,but I cant find a brother,it is all so confusing,to many with the same name

The James Shone I am researching arrived in Tasmania as a child. I have discovered that he was not a convict. He went to Portland Victoria in the early 1840's and was married there. I know that a William Shone, his wife and three children arrived in Tasmania in 1832 (Free Arrivals Index). Unfortunately the names of his wife and children were not listed. I am unsure where to look for this information. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Hello I was interested in your post,as my husband Basil O'Connor has Shone ancestry in Harwarden,Flint ,Wales.His gggrandfather was William Shone married Charlotte nee Peers on the 24 December in Harwarden,Flint ,Wales and was listed as a collier.The children I have for them are Thomas,bapt3Dec 1813,Samuel,bapt 9Feb 1817,James,bapt 25 Dec 1818(transported to Tasmania Australin in 1831 for life,my husbands ggfather)Edward,bapt20 april 1821 and Ermina bapt20 july 1832,I know nothing of the family remaining in wales,all the children were bapt in Harwarden,Flint,Wales.L would be interested in what you think

Hi. Did any of your ancestors relations emigrate to Australia? My Great, Great Grandfather, James Shone arrived in Australia, 1832. I think his father was a William Shone, although I am having difficulty establishing this as fact. William was a shoemaker and James did an apprenticeship as a shoemaker. I know that William, his wife and three children (one of which I think may have been James) left Liverpool on board the ship Wellington 5/8/1832. They were originally from Wales. James named one of his sons Charles. I look forward to see if there are any possible links.

Thanks for your reply, my Griffiths were from Milton Street in Chester and in the 1840's from Ellesmere Port area. I'm only just beginning my research on the Shone connection so not sure yet whether there is a John Shone in the same family. If there is I'll let you know.

I have a John Shone m Ann Griffiths at Hawarden Parish Church in 1747. My husband's great grandfather was Rev Joseph Griffiths Shone m Sarah Ann Fowler in Liverpool in 1863 If this is your area of interest, let me know.

I have Charles Shone in my tree. He married Sophia Jones 28 Sep 1801. He was baptized at Hawarden Paarish Church 1 Jan 1783.He and Sophia had a lot of children. I have 13 listed. If this is your area of interest, please contact me.

Mary's sister Sarah was my grandmother's grandmother. Their parents were Charles and Isabella GIlL b. circa 1819 in Woolwich.

my mother is sheila shone, she had sisters Mary, Margret and Winifred (Win) Sheila is married to my father Alan Keech They used to live at Bennetthorpe in Doncaster. She had two brothers Ken and Bill and a nephew called John who lived in Maryport. I understand my grandfather Shone was called William and my grandma Shone was Catherine nee Boyle who came from Cork in Ireland ??

Yes, I am interested in a branch that had Charles Shone living/working in Hawarden in the early 1800s. His son, James, christened in Deane by Bolton in 1806, is my greatx3 grandfather. The interesting thing is that there were shone shoemakers in Bolton at this time, and I am looking for a link.

Judy Shone Birdsall Wischhusen died May 20, 2005. Judy was born October 2, 1947, in Los Angeles to Ethelyn and Louis Albert Shone.

She was raised in the Carmel/Monterrey area of California, graduated from high school in Salt Lake City and from Lamson Junior College in Mesa, Arizona.

She was employed in the insurance industry in claims for Allstate Insurance Company and by several agencies of American Family Insurance in Mesa. While living in Iowa she owned and operated her own café in Spencer and owned and operated a meat locker in Everly with her former husband.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and step-father, Robert Menist.

Arrangements handled by Allen Funeral Home, 1130 S. Horne Mesa, AZ (480) 833-1716.

Which Mary Ann Shone are you 2 talking about? FreeBMD list 2 births in Dec 1852 - one in Liverpool and one in Great Boughton (Cheshire & Flintshire) so they are not far apart geographically.
My G-grandmother Mary (?Ann) Shone from Liverpool (?) Married John Birchwood Imison, and her father was Thomas Shone of Liverpool.
If either of you can add any useful information to link all these Shones from this area please let me know. jon

Thanks Chris, this looks interesting but our Mary was married on 1 October 1876 to John Birchwood Imison - I have the MC. I have her birth as 1851 in Liverpool but no BC. How sure are you of your information? Do you have any other information on her family?

Ok Here´s my bit for what it´s worth!
My g-grdmother was Mary Shone & born in Liverpool in 1851. Her Father was Thomas Shone (of Liverpool). Now, the only mariages I found in FreeBMD for him around this time was either Ann Jones or Elizabeth Scotson (Liverpool Sept 1850) or Elizabeth Lowe (Gt Boughton Dec 1846). If this ties in with any of yours let me know. JoN

Hi, I don´t know your William Shone but my G-grandmother Mary Shone was born in Liverpool (Maybe Runcorn Cheshire) in 1851.

Catherine Shone Married Robert Harold at September 21st 1845 at St Philips Church Liverpool

And this is all i have on the Shone Family..I think Thomas May have gone to South Africa as there is No sign of Thomas or Catherine on the 1841 Census

At present I do not know any Catherine Shone. The name is quite unusual and seems to be prevalent in Cheshire and surroundings, so I think the chances are high that thereis a link somewhere. I have not yet looked very hard at the Shone branch of my family, and would welcome swapping any details .
