Hi, My maternal grandmother was Susan Shotton, who grew up in Doddington near Wooler as the daughter of James George Shotton, vicar of Doddington. J.G Shotton was married to Susan ( nee Wileman ), and J.G and Susan were born in Lincoln.
J.G had father, also J.G who I just found out died before his birth. I think before that was a Richard Shotton, also of Lincoln, and possibly a solicitor. J.G Shotton senior apparently died in an accident on Lincoln High Street. Sadly leaving my great-great grandmother to bring up her two boys on her own, youngest became vicar and was to be my great-grandfather. I wonder whether family connections with Northumberland encouraged their move north from Lincoln ?

has any one have any info on a alan shotton..in the springwell area of sunderland born in late 1940s/early 50 s. known to have been in that area in 70s.
possable of sister called shirly ,and brother george.

I am the great granddaughter of Gertrude Shotton, she married George Moore and went on to have 6 children, Rosamund, George & Joyce (Twins) Margerite, Norman and another boy who we dont know. She sadly died young in 1938. We are just starting out on the trail of the family so any pointers would be welcome.

My Shotton's start with William,b. abt. 1752 & his wife Mary b. abt. 1752 and their 8 children all from the 1700's. I have some of their spouses also. The one I was interested in was a daughter of Wm. and Mary, Ann Shotton, who married Geo. Easthope. I have traced many of the Easthopes to the present time. Maybe now I will try to trace some of the other Shotton children. I have not worked on them for many years now.

Hi, not sure at all about my ancestry, BUT there are a few Shottons in Liverpool.

Myself and my siblings,
My father Keith Shotton
And his mother Evelyn Shotton.
(Also my mother kept the name Shotton, and my dads current wife is a Shotton now too)

Also a few in Seattle, USA, although I'm guessing not called Shotton anymore since it is my Great-Aunts family.

Doubt this helps since I don't know any names further than my nan, but there are a few of us in Liverpool!

Shotton's in Northumberland

I am researching my family's tree and I am trying to find out some informtion about the Shotton family from Longhoughton and their decendants. I am particulary interested in George Shotton (b1861) married to Isabel Jackson. They had 5 children, Margaret Elizabeth Shotton (b1890 Felton), Robert Edmund Shotton (b1891 Felton), Annie Bertha Shotton (b1895 Felton), Gertrude Mary Shotton (b 1905 Prudhoe) and one unknown but as at 1911 census was alive. Robert Edmund Shotton died in WW1 and I have been researching this. My guesses are (from FreeBMD and Ancestry) that Margaret may have married Alexander Buck, Anie may have married an Adams and Gertrude may have married a Cole but these are pure guesses.
The last details I have (1911 census and 1917 record of Robert's death) show them living at West Lodge, Prudhoe Hall, Prudhoe-on-Tyne.
Any information anyone has would be gratefull appreciated, including information on Robert (b1806)and Mary Shotton from Longhoughton!

With regards to your George Shotton, it is likely that he was the father to my late fathers cousin John.If your George was married to my Great Aunt SarahAnnie Devlin,then he had three children before they divorced and both I believe remarried.

It is a bit lomg winded but your GGfather, William Thomas married Florence Beatrice HUMPHRIES in Winchcombe Sept qtr 1894, she was the sister of my Gmother.

Also my cousin Albert EVANS married the daughter of Mary Jane SHOTTON who was your gfathers's sister...does that sound right ?

My Fathers name is Shotton and he grew up in Ferndale. Mr father was born there and I believe his father came there from Cheltenham or Winchcombe. Mr Grandfathers name was John Charles Shotton.

Dear Norman I am the grand daughter of Mary Ann Shotton. Mary was Alices sister. Mary died in 1936,her Husband Harold A Lee was killed in the first world war on the 28th May 1918. Mary remarried and was became Mary Robertshaw.Mary and Harold had five children two of which died young in 1916 from Measles. Agnes was the eldest she died in late the 1960's My father Clarence Beaumont Lee died in 1958 and Alfred M B lee died in 1933 in his early twenties. Looking for a Isabella Shotton b around 1816. Monkwearmouth- Durham in Sunderland, England. county of Tyne and Wear.
She married in 1839 to a James Miller b. 1816, Buttsbury, Essex

I believe he is the brother of Robert Shotton (John Carr's father)

Within my family tree I have a Joseph Arkless who I believe married an Alice Shotton at Gateshead, England, in December 1/4 1903. Alice was born in Gateshead in 1883 and died there in 1954.
Also on the same marriage record page was a Mary Ann Shotton who married Harold Augustus Lee.

go 1991 cwnsus. search. type in shotton and gender only. will throw up list. trawl through checking town and parish.
or same but chuck in known christian names. keep simple as possible. worked for me in relation to william shotton born sunderland 1881. many shottons including my area of search were mariners from sunderland area went to bristol/soouth wales and worked ships as captains and master mariners from those ports to all points of globe. remember right at tone time i typed in william shotton cardiff and it threw up booth family connections. get into this and throws up many s wales connections. jh

for shotton searfhers in general: extended family of stephen shotton of sunderland 1881 were well known mariners masters and capatins who sailed the world from north east, bristol and cardiff for say twenty/thirty yrs around that time. possibly because of sea connection extended shotton family name in south wales/cardiff hd common birth areas sunderland/bishop auckland.
i am researching life of william shotton who at age 6 (1881)lived at laura st sunderland with mother and brothers and sisters with father stephen away at sea at the time. william went on to fame by sailing ss trafalgar from batavia to australia when captain masters and crew were dying of fever all around him. he was an 18 yr old apprentice seaman at the time. story received world wide newspaper coverage and he received lloyds of london medal.
require information of his subsequent life after 1993: residence;marriage, demise, etc.
