Your grandfather Forrest was Rufus and Lillie's son. Forrest was married to Addie Rosencrance. I have a picture of Rufus Sterling Shreve and Lillie Fincham Shreve.
Re: Pansy Lillie Shreve

I was drawn to your post because my great uncle Glenn Shreve's wife was named Pansy, but they are not the same person. I did do some checking, though, and found some info you might not have. In the 1900 census, Buffalo city, Erie Co, NY, Chas D Shreve b.Apr/1865, Leona b. Jun/1874, Roy b.Sep/1893, Pansy b. Feb/1896 and Baby (male) b. 12/1897. I suspect that is where you got the birthdate. Interesting that the baby was 2 y/o and had no name! In 1910, they were still in Buffalo, minus Leona. Charles was listed as widowed. Pansy and Roy were still there and the baby became George. Three more children were added: Florence, age 8; J (illegible Female), age 6; and James, age 3. In 1920 the only one I could find was Florence, age 18 who was listed as a boarder in a household in Buffalo. There were two babies also in the household, one who was listed as waiting for adoption and interestingly, George Tesmer who was listed as a boarder. I'm wondering if it was like a foster home. Was he your grandfather? I couldn't find anything for either Charles Shreve or Tesmer or Pansy Shreve or Tesmer. That doesn't mean there isn't anything there. Names could be misspelled. Pansy was listed in a family tree on ancestry.com, but I don't have a subscription, so I couldn't get any further information. Sometimes they offer two free weeks, so you might want to check it out. Hope this info is helpful.

Looking for any information on Pansy Lillie Shreve. I'm not sure of her birthplace, but I know she was in Buffalo NY for some time. She was married to Charles Tesmer and had a son named George Carl.

Any information would be invaluable to me. :)

She is my great-grandmother and I have virtually no information on her other than she was born in Feb. 1896.

Barbara, I know that I am descended from Thomas and Martha Sheriff, who lived in Rhode Island. Their son Caleb, who I 'm also descended from, went by the name "Shreve", maybe it was a phonetic change and one that was less "old Country", I don't know. My records are in storage as we plan to move soon. Your posting is 11 years old, but I would love to share any info. we may have in common. For instance, I pored over the records and names I have in storage and I know that in my line a Shreve family member married a Margaret Newbold from Philadelphia. Apparently, the Newbolds were in the knife making business at some point in time, maybe even back in England. Well, By that time the Shreves had moved to Burlington County,in upper New Jersey. They also donated land for their community's Quaker meeting house. My detective work on my family is gleaned from copies my great, great Aunt Pearl Lewis had because at some point in time she'd applied to the Daughter's of the American Revolution (Richard Shreve). The papers Aunt Pearl had were from a book titled: The History of the Shreve Family from 1641 by W.P. Allen, apparently another relative that I am not familiar of the connection with. In addition, I had also been doing research on the Shreve Family site at the time you made the posting I'm replying too now. I have fallen out of doing research for the past 8 years! Presently, I'm trying the site's Civil War records for 2 weeks. Sometime later, after I move, I wanted to become organized enough to try searching for family onfo. again.

Hello -

L.P. Allen in his book Genealogy and History of the Shreve Family , 1901, does not list any of your names. However, the Perry Co., OH family do relate to the Shreve's in Allen's book, and to my wife's family who came from there also.

As close as I can determine, your people probably descend from one of the following children of James & Mary (Williams) Shreve of Perry County:

James Shreve 1754-1839 m. Mary Williams, b. Burlington Co., NJ and d. Perry Co., OH. Their known children were:
Caleb 1777, Humphrey 1779, Phoebe 1780, John 1782, Joshua 1784, Asa 1786 (my wife's line), Theodosia 1787, Israel 1789, Louis 1791 & Mary 1792. I suspect your John Perry is a grandchild of one of the above men.

I suggest you work the Perry Co. records in the court house and library. I also suggest Family Search (Mormon) databasae.

The oldest Shreve male in Perry County, OH is James above.

Good luck!

This thread is so old, I'm hoping you're still active on this account/email.. here's hoping.

I'm looking for any information for John Perry Shreve, born in Perry Co, Ohio in 1857. Married to Martha Ann "Mattie" Stainbrook/Steinbrook born 1868 in Shawnee, Ohio. They were married Jan 29, 1881 in Perry Co.

We've always been told he was born either Souix or Lakota indian, but I'm rather new at this, and have no idea how to find out anything about that.

Their children are Josephine "Josie" Shreve b.18 Dec 1883 in Shawnee, Ohio. Cecelia W. Shreve b. 1885 in Zanesville, Ohio. Blanche M. Shreve b. 10 Mar 1888 in Shawnee. William Shreve b. 1891 in Ohio. Cora Shreve b. 30 Nov 1895 in Crooksville, Ohio. Forest "Jack" Clifford Shreve b. 4 Nov 1903 in Congo, Ohio. Thelma Shreve b. 1906 in Ohio.

Any information would be wonderful. I'm at a bit of a brick wall with both John and Martha Ann right now.

Thanks in advance!

I realize that the chances of you still having this clipping is remote since it has been 6 years.
However, I am just starting to research my family tree. Adam B Shreve was my maternal grandfather.
I was wondering if you could tell me if anyone requested this clipping - they would probably be a relative.
Since all my mothers immediate family are deceased, I would really appreciate getting in touch with anyone who is related to me through the Shreve or Kimble families.
Thank you for your time.

In looking back over the information, I believe she isn't the Cora Shreve I'm looking for. The Cora Shreve who was married for a short time to my great uncle, Max Frank Tumlin, was probably born about 1898 to 1902, making her too young for a 1909 marriage. He died in 1922 and not sure when they married, but they weren't married long.
