Samuel's parents were Ruel Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Poindexter. Elizabeth D'Aubigne's parentage has never been established, as far as I know.

D'Aubigne is a surname based on a place name--"of Aubigne"--I believe a city in France. It is a famous French Huguenot name. I remember there was a plaza in Brussels named after one guy, and I believe there is another famous D'Aubigne involved in the Protestant Reformation. No one has ever been able to connect Elizabeth to these Europeans. I believe when Huguenots were escaping Europe, they went to the Channel Islands first, then to England, then to America.

Thank you for responding. Sarah and Mary are the only daughters I have seen but... RootsWeb.com ... Until I see some birth and death data I am not going to speculate. The Kentucky and Virginia Shrewsbury & Richardson genealogys are a house of cards with insufficient data sufficient data. They all need yDNA from FamilyTreeDNA and a pedigree so that the MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor) can be determined. People do not know what they do not know.

Hi Judith,
My name is Teri List. My mother is Carolyn Uhlrich. Her maiden name is Mills. Clara C. Shrewsbury married my gg grandfather Henry G. Mills. I too am looking for information on Jeremiah Shrewsbury. I'd like to know who his parents were and what ancestry we have in England.
I'd also like to get more information on Mary Elizabeth Clay and who her parents were. I know her mother's name is Frances and Mary had a step father with the last name of White I believe.
If you find any information on them,I'd love to hear what you find. I can let you know what I might find.
My grandfather-Avery G. Mills-told me that he used to run moonshine for people in West Virginia. I started writing a book on him before he died, but I only got a rough draft done. I haven't gotten any further on it than that yet.
I live in California now with my husband who is a retired fire captain. We have 2 grown children. I love to find out who are ancestors are and where they come from.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Sheila Irene Shrewsbury, 99, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Lashmeet, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Raleigh, N.C. Born August 5, 1912 at Crumpler, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Honaker and Ocie D. Shrewsbury Honaker.

Mrs. Shrewsbury was a member of the Matoaka United Methodist Church where she was in the Women's Society of Christian Service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar D. Shrewsbury in 2001; one daughter, Norma Jean Hurst; six sisters, Nellie Honaker Wolf, Verna Akers, Peggy Akers, Francis Suddreth, Leona Akers and Avilean Rhodes; one brother, Maynard B. Honaker; and one great-great-grandson, Madden Matthews.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Leonall and husband Victor of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Carl, Tina, Diane, Ann, Ginny and Larry.; nine great-grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Amy, Christopher, Kellyann, Amber, Shawn, Jerome and Olivia; and one great-great-granddaughter, Anabelle.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastor Connie Runion officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

My great uncle's mane was Carl Shrewsbury. He was my grandmother Amrie Virginia Shrewsbury's brother. Her father's name was Granville and mother's name was Marietta Mills Shrewsbury. There children's names are Amrie, Macy, Norie, Wilma, Carl and Vesper. This is not in order from oldest to youngest that I don't know exactly. I do know out of the girls it goes Norie, Amrie, Macy and Wilma. Carl married Doresa Mills and her parents are Preston and Hattie Mills. They were married 6-1-1950. He was 21 and born in Beeson, WV and she was 18 and born in Basin, WV. I found a file on them when I was looking for my grandmother Amrie. I know from my grandma that her father Granville and her mother Marietta were both kind good people. He was a very tender man and loved his family very much as she did as well. From what I know of uncle Carl his hair turned completely white by age 18. My grandma told me this because she herself had white hair and thought it funny that his turned at such an early age. Boyd Shrewsbury and Mary Shrewsbury are the names of my great grandparents. My grandfathers name was Cecil L. Shrewsbury born March, 1912. I have to check the exact date. I was told that Boyd died when my grandfather was young and that Mary remarried. Her new husband's name was Opie Jennings. My grandfather married my grandmother Amrie Shrewsbury in 1933. My grandma's birthday was 6-6-1918. They had 12 children. The family was from Mercer County WV. If your family tree shows any of this could you please let me know. I'm trying to start my family tree and I have very little information to go on. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I have only traced my Shrewsberry/Shrewsbury line : William Acy Shrewsberry, son of John Henry Shrewsberry and Mary Adeline Aldridge Shrewsberry-- I think John might be the son of Allen and Catherine (or Katherine) Whitworth Shrewsberry , but Im not sure.... You might try the Solesbury genealogy site.... some say all of us Shrewsberry descended from Jeremiah Solesbury... debbie

My fathers real name was Clarence Edward Cox. On a sheet of Shrewsbury marriages in WV it shows that alot of the Shrewsburys married Bashams. My father changed his name to Robert James Basham so that nobody would find him. Vannie Faye Shrewsbury, 87, of Odd, passed from this life to her heavenly home with our Lord on Friday, November 12, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born December 24, 1922, in Egeria, WV, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Pansie Harvey Wood.

She married Ramon Walton Shrewsbury on July 20, 1939. Mrs. Shrewsbury was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of Westview Missionary Baptist Church and loved by family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ramon Walten (R.W.) Shrewsbury; her brother, Vernis Wood, and her sisters, Violet Monk and Verlie Walker.

Left to cherish her memory are children Walten Scott Shrewsbury and wife Carolyn of Minneapolis, MN; Wesley Shrewsbury and wife Martha of Odd, WV; Carol Emery and husband Robert Morgan of Crab Orchard, WV; James Shrewsbury and wife Judy of Bunnell, FL; and Karen Emery and husband Rodger of Odd, WV; one sister, Velma Jones of Portsmouth, VA; and one brother, Vernon Wood of Lashmeet, WV; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

This is really interesting. My father, too, was a Dewey Shrewsbury from Sand Gap/Mullens, WV, area. He would've been the same age as "Pee Wee" Shrewsbury, also born in late Oct 1939. It's amazing how many lives parallel.

Update on my message from Jun 2007: I have found out that Mary wasn't the wife of Allen, she was his daughter. Mary Shrewsbury Adams did die sometime in 1850 and willed a female slave (that she inherited from Allen) to her daughter, Samantha Adams Posey. Still searching for any information on the Adams that married Mary Shrewsbury.

John Henry Farmer and Milley Francis Shrewsbury My Great Grand mother was Pearl Thompson Daughter of Hiram and Mary Thompson I have records to show this. I would like you to no that the Pearl Thompson most everyone has on there site is not the correct one. What I mean by this is my great grandmother was born on April 6TH 1910 in Mercer County West Virginia And Passed away June 19th 1982 Burial date was June 28th 1982 at the Montross Cemetery in Chicago Ill. Like I said I have records to prove this with Pearls Mother and Fathers Name on them. I called the Cabell County, West Virginia records department about the Pearl Thompson that you have on your site and her Mother and Fathers name is totally Different then our Pearl thats how I no this as well as I stayed with my great grandmother Pearl when my dad was having open heart surgery. BEESON — Dewey "Pee Wee" Shrewsbury, 69, of Beeson, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born October 27, 1939 at Dott, he was the son of the late John Dewey Shrewsbury and Thelma Lester Shrewsbury. Mr. Shrewsbury was a retired school bus driver from the Mercer County Board of Education. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Timothy Blake Shrewsbury and his wife Lori of Beeson; three daughters, Teresa Meadows of Virginia, Vicki Tachell and her husband Mike of Princeton and Dreama Horton and her husband Dwayne of Beeson; two brothers, Darrell Shrewsbury and his wife Reva of Beeson and Robert Shrewsbury and his wife Frances of Spanishburg; three sisters, Judy Hatfield of Princeton and Barbara Shrewsbury and Irene Tedder both of Beeson; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. SPANISHBURG — Florence Shrewsbury Thompson, 64, of Spanishburg died Friday, July 31, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born September 25, 1944 at Beeson, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie "Edyco" Shrewsbury and Lena Elizabeth Bailey Shrewsbury.She attended Lakeview Presbyterian Church in Lake Shawnee. She was the former owner and operator of The Growing Tree health food store in Spencer for more than 10 years and was a retired home health caregiver. She enjoyed drawing, painting and had many artistic abilities. She loved her little dog, Peaches, and loved the outdoors, nature and all animals.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Thompson of Matoaka and Melinda Copen and husband, Larry of Gandeeville; five sisters, Viola Wiblin of Spanishburg, Eva Mae Hubbard of Princeton, Ellen Shrewsbury and her husband, Connie of Lashmeet, Polly Rose of Princeton and Claudia Shrewsbury of Beeson; one brother, Johnnie R. Shrewsbury and wife, Judy of Beeson; four grandchildren, Amber Copen, Tiffany Copen, Sasha Burnside and Arlene Thompson; and one great-granddaughter, Ravenne Dawn Burnside.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Bundy Dye officiating. I'm looking for information about my Great Grandparents. According to my Aunt Wanda Goad, Katie Shrewsbury married Wilford Rhodes. The family originated in the Virginia/West Virginia area. They had nine children - Willard Elmer, Harry Delano, Freddie, Jimmy Edward, Shirley Jean, Edith Mae, Lorene Faye, Retha Elise, and Macie Marie (my Grandmother). Macie was born in 1921 so Katie was probably born in the 1890's.

Thanks so much for the info. I have been trying to get a hold of you to let you know what I have. I have been to your rootsweb web site and your Genealogy site which I found very helpful. There is this one thing one there about my great grandma was not born in 18 JAN 1906 in Mercer County, West Virginia she was born April 6th 1909 but through the SSI search and I have talked to SSI and and they have April 6 of 1909 and April 6 of 1910. I also have the papers from her service where she was laid to rest I did know her have spent many nights at her house and loved her dearly She passed away on June 19th 1982 in Chicago Ill. The Pearl Douglas that you have on your site was born and did pass away in West Virginia but her maiden name was not Thompson right off hand I can not think what they told me it was because when I told them the name of my Pearls Mother and Father They told me that that's whats wrong right there that's not This Pearl Douglas Parents. Please get back to me .

Sallie Garrison Shrewsbury, of 1518 Harper Rd., Beckley, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at the Lucy Bowers Hospice House.

The daughter of Arthur Clarence Garrison and Velma Holland Garrison, she was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Giles County, Tenn. She attended Middle Tennessee State University and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Western Kentucky State University in Bowling Green. She taught business courses in the Kentucky school system for 17 years.

Sallie and her husband retired to Raleigh County in 2000. Her gracious hospitality was showcased for several years as they owned and operated the popular Merritt House Bed and Breakfast in Beckley.

An active member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, Sallie’s outstanding service as a kitchen hostess, planning and preparing meals, was a special gift to the congregation and guests alike.

She is survived by her husband Rondal B. Shrewsbury of Beckley; her brother Arthur Clarence Garrison Jr. (Buster) of Elkton, Tenn.; a daughter Cynthia Rae Hammers Prigge and her husband Thomas of Cologne, Germany; a daughter Stephanie Kaye Hammers Vandeveer of Louisville, Ky.; and two young granddaughters, Rebecca Prigge and Sydney Vandeveer. She is also survived by a cherished golden retriever “Sam Boy.”

Visitation was held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, at Melton Mortuary and may call one hour before the service today at Melton Mortuary.

Services will be 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 3 in the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Rd., Beckley, with Rev. Adrian Pratt and Rev. Robert Debnam officiating.

Pallbearers will be nephews Keith Garrison and Kevin Garrison, Bill Riffe, Butch Riffe, Joseph McGhee, and Anthony Mazelon. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lewis Fox, Mr. Thomas Keyser, Mr. Robert Sayre, Mr. Charles Hardcastle, and Mr. Warren Thornhill.

Mr. Shrewsbury was an employee of the Mercer County Board of Education for more than 20 years and was currently employed as a custodian at Athens Middle School. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a very quiet and gentle person with a sweet spirit. He liked to fish with his little buddy, “Tootie.” He was a loving husband, father, brother and son; the best father in the world. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mary Akers Shrewsbury of the home; one son, Jereme Shrewsbury of Beeson and his fiancée Mandy Gillum; one daughter, Amy Lowe and her husband Freddie of Beeson; two grandchildren, Alaura Mitchem and Ariella Lowe; two sisters, Cindy Dorman and her husband Steven, and Sonia O’Dell and her husband Patrick all of Princeton; one brother, Brett Shrewsbury and his wife Diana of Pinoak; a son-in-law, Brian Mitchem of Kegley; and his special pet dog Weenie, “Tootie.” A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Shrewsbury Cemetery at Nubbins Ridge with Pastor Reginald Blakewood officiating. Gene was a 30 year employee of the Mercer County Board of Education and was a paint foreman for many years. He loved to hunt and fish. He raised Norwegian Elk Hounds and Bob-White Quail. Gene was of the Baptist faith and was a kind-hearted and loving person to all. Born Jan. 19, 1916, in Brier Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Ethel Mooney Shrewsbury. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Okey O. Godbey, her son, E. Wade Godbey and ten siblings.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. Albans, where she was also active with the Ladies Circle.

Surviving are her daughter, Victoria E. Godbey of St. Albans; her grandchildren, Tonya Kyle and her husband, Eric, of Winfield, Cole Wade Godbey of St. Albans; her daughter-in-law, Rose L. Godbey of Scott Depot; her sisters, June Lamiele and Nell Cary, both of Massillon, Ohio, Ida Haught of St. Cloud, Fla.; her brothers, Charles Franklin Daughtery of Charleston, John Thomas Daughtery of Massillon, Ohio; her great-granddaughters, Tori and Sera Grass of Winfield.
