Sure!!

I am from the Christopher Beswick side. My research has him dying in Webster City, Iowa in 1892 (no specific date), which is where my grandmother, Ruth Elizabeth Srigley was born. Charles Byron died on 13 Aug 1933 in Dixon, Iowa. Charles Byron married Anna Jenson on 21 Jan 1896 in Hamilton, Iowa. They had 7 children, by my records; Arlene (1896 - 10/14/1977), Leona (9/25/1897 - 5/2/1998), Carl Byron (3/17/1899 - 1/4/1974), Arthur (10/29/1900 - 2/1969), Florence (7/16/1902 - 12/11/2005, age 103, and my Mom remained VERY close to her all the way to her death), Evelyn Charlene (10/24/1913), and my grandmother, Ruth Elizabeth (5/8/1909 - 12/11/2005).

Both Evelyn and Ruth died in Oceanside, CA (San Diego Co), and lived almost next door to each other for years. Arthur died in Webster City, IA., Carl Byron died in Inkster, MI. Leona died in Youngtown, AZ. Arlene died in Levonia MI.

Ruth Elizabeth married Howard Frank Deats (b. 2/25/1907 in S. Sioux CIty, NE, d. 6/15/1979 in Oceanside CA), married on 7/16/1929 in Herman NE. They lived most of their working life in Omaha, NE. When Howard retired from Ma Bell, they moved to Oceanside, CA, where they had vacationed every summer since the early 1960's. They had only one child - my mother - Marilyn Joann Deats, who was born on 3/25/1933 and is still living in her parent's retirement house in Oceanside.

I have a little more, but don't know where to start ;)

I probably can't help much but am interested in your line. I am from Elisha Beman, brother of Christopher Beswick. Do you know where Christoper Beswick died and where Charles Byron, his son, died? I have Charles Byron married Anna Jensen but I would like to know more about her. I do not have any info on her at all. I have a little info on their children but nothing on Ruth nor who she married or her children. Would you be willing to fill me in?
I live near London, Ontario and have been trying to update the Srigley portion of the tree for a few years. I started with the Norman Jolly version and kept contacting people, meeting people, and emailing people until I have quite a bit more to the tree.
Would appreciate your help very much.
Eleanor

It's been a year since this thread was active, but I thought I'd try...

I'm a decendent of Enoch Srigley (Enoch -> Robert Skelton -> Christopher Beswick -> Charles Byron -> Ruth Elizabeth). Ruth was my grandmother, and she died back in 1992. Her only daughter (my mother) is still living, and she will turn 80 next March. I'm hoping to give her the family tree as a gift.

I'm now trying to get further back up the line, but I'm stuck at John Jr. (b. 1712) and John Sr. (B. ??). John Jr. appears to have been born in England (specifically, I don't know), while Enoch was born in Pennsylvania. I'd like to get the date and mode of immigration (ship name, port of arrival, port of departure, etc.).

Likewise, I've taken Martha Pearson (John Jr.'s wife) back to Edward Peeresonne (c. 1575), but would like to take that further as well.

Does anyone have any hints? :)

Thanks!!
Michael

You have all the right places such as Prestbury, Cheshire, Macclesfield, etc. but I don't have much further back than there are Shrigley's in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA who are said to have come from England. I can send a couple of stories but need a bit of space. Can you give me your email address?

Eleanor, I can't find any Enoch baptised in any Cheshire area. BUT there were unmaned male children born to both an Isaac Shrigley, and Azariah Shrigley.
These are biblical names, so a son named Enoch is possible.
Have you tried the new Familysearch Beta ?
I'll see what more I can find. Regards, Joan aka boater.

Name Shrigley
Gender Male
Christening Date 13 Mar 1754
Christening Place Prestbury, Cheshire, England
Father's Name Isaac Shrigley
Principal's Residence , Prestbury, Cheshire, England
My g-g-g-g grandfather was Enoch Shrigley & Mary Skelton. Back from him I have no proof, only speculation from other researchers.
Their son Robert came to Canada from Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, U.S.A. and he changed the spelling of his name to Srigley. My maiden name is Srigley.
I would be interested in anything you can provide about the Shrigley family in England. I know they started out there and have tales of Macclesfield Shrigley's from the Srigley-Shrigley tree done in 1977 by Norman Jolly.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Eleanor

No, I did not. I hired a researcher who found the signed releases by John and Lawrence in one of the manuscript collections in the Bucks Co Historical Society's Spruance Library -- I think it was in the Armitage files. She found the Pearson Wills in Philadelphia - I think in the State Library - probably the Historical Library
Perhaps by contacting those libraries, you'd be able to obtain copies too.
The Wills are probably available thru an LDS FHC near you.

OR, in that time when I get my stuff better organized, I could send copies via snail mail. I am pretty sure I know exactly where these are, so this is a reasonable alternative.
Anna

John Shrigley signed in March 1761 for Martha's inheritance as she had died before her mother.
Lawrence signed for his in 1766.

I hope someone is still monitoring this conversation…

I think that Mary Srigley, daughter of Joshua Srigley and Susannah Heacock, is probably the Mary Srigley who married Henry Gillet in 1833 and that she and Henry Gillet are my great-great-great-grandparents.

According to several Heacock genealogies, Joshua Srigley married Susannah Heacock about 1810 and they had a daughter named Mary Srigley, born about 1812. They don’t have any further information except that Mary Srigley is said to have married and settled in East Gwillimbury.

I have found a marriage registration for a Mary Srigley and Henry Gillet, 3 Feb 1833 in the Home District by a magistrate from East Gwillimbury. The marriage was witnessed by Robert Srigley and George McCarthy. It seems likely to me that Robert Srigley is either her uncle (Joshua’s brother) or her cousin (Joshua’s brother’s son).

Finally (on firmer ground now with my documented ancestry), my great-great-grandfather Joshua Gillet was born in 1836 (in Ontario, but I haven’t been able to document the town yet). He married his first wife 20 May 1860 in Newmarket, close to East Gwillimbury where both were residents. His father is shown as Henry Gillet and his mother as May (I think probably Mary, misspelled, as the bride’s mother’s name was also May).

I don’t know how that first marriage ended, but Joshua Gillet eventually went on to marry my great-great-grandmother. The first of their 4 children was named Srigley, born in 1878. (My great-grandfather was their 3rd child.)

So, it could be just a number of coincidences, but it seems likely that my great-great-grandfather, Joshua Lot Gillet, was the son of Mary Srigley and Henry Gillet (and the grandson of Joshua Srigley, who would be my 4Xgreat-grandfather).

Anyone have any thoughts/insights?

Thanks,
Steve
Anna,

I believe that I’m a descendant of Enoch Sirgley/Shrigley’s son, Joshua Srigley (b 1783 in Bucks Co, PA), but I’m still working on an absolutely certain connection.

According to several Heacock genealogies, Joshua Srigley married Susannah Heacock about 1810 and they had a daughter named Mary Srigley, born about 1812.
I am researching Enoch Shrigley 1751 Bucks PA and collateral relatives. Enoch m Mary Skelton, daughter of Robert Skelton -- they migrated to Niagara Peninsula. Some descendants dropped the 'h' without changing pronunciation.

Are you from this line or from Lawrence or Joseph -- (all were in Bucks c 1770)???
direct contact: elijahf1 at comcast.net
Anna

If you're interested, there is a group on Facebook called 'We are the Shrigley's'. Several of the Shrigley members currently reside in England. May be a long shot, but ya never know.

1851 England Census
Census & Voter Lists

Name: Matthew Shrigley
Age: 52
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1799
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England
Household schedule number: 46

Name: Matthew Shrigley
Spouse: Elizabeth
Birth: abt 1799 - location
Residence: 1851 - city, Cheshire, England
We have a few Mary's in our line.

I am a descendent John Shrigley - the one who came over from England. He married a Martha Pearson. I just met a distant cousin who has given me information on Martha's family going back 10 more generations or so.

I haven't found anything about John. I believe his name was changed once he arrived here. I think it used to be spelled Shrigleigh. I was told by family members he was one of 4 brothers who settled here. Once they settled, it seems the brothers spread out.

The Marys I have listed are descendents of John - two granddaughters. His DIL was also named Mary.

I'd love to take a look at what you have and see if we're talking about the same John. I'll send you an email.

She had a brother Lewis of Columbus, OH and a half-brother Glenn Cox of Spokane, WA.

Marie's stepparents were Albert and Margaret Cox.
I'm a Canadian Srigley. My line is Enoch born 1751 who came to Canada with his family, including his son Robert born 1776 my g g g grandfather. I've begun exploring the U.S. Shrigleys and Srygley's. You have many posting on the Shrigley family.
For this Enoch, could you tell me which one (born when) please?
Eleanor

I know it's been over a year since you posted this so hopefully you still check the boards every so often.
I looked up The Black Prince on Wikipedia (free encyclopedia on the internet) and discovered he was Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales, born 1330, the eldest son of Edward III. He died in 1376, one year before his father so he never ruled as king.
The article you refer to shows the land given in 1256 to John de Shrigley for service to the Black Prince but he wasn't even born yet.
do you have an explanation?
Could there be another Black Prince?
Do you have a copy of the article? I notice Anna asked the same question.
Eleanor Burnett (nee Srigley)
I'm trying to locate a copy of the following:

An ancestral history: Comprising ancestral lines in the Shrigley, Simonson, Marlow, and Cantine families by Ruth Shrigley King (Unknown Binding - 1968)

terrieshrigley@hotmail.com

Robertshaw - Sam, Mary, Lizzy, Ellen

I am looking for more information on a family listed in the 1880 census, Jamestown, Chautauqua County, NY. Sam Robertshaw was b, abt. 1841 as was his wife Mary. There were two children in the house Lizzy Robertshaw b. abt. 1859 and Ellen Robertshaw b. abt. 1863. I have reason to believe that later Ellen married Herbert Emmott. I would like to confirm this. There was also a sister-in-law in the house Fannie Briggs. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
