I'm looking to go out beyond Peter Shriner with names and dates? Can you help? raq56@aol.com Robbin Allan Quinn

Julie

A map of Austria-Hungary http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm where 12 different languages were spoken. After the breakup there were several new countries formed and one was Czechoslovakia www.cgsi.org Ruthenia is now part of Ukraine and in 1993 Czechoslovakia became Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
EVON is American spelling of possibly IVAN - same pronounciation.
He left his "old country" with his old country name. Once in America he chose to change it when he might have naturalized.

www.iabsi.com/gen/public
www.tccweb.org
www.surnamenavigator.org

BIO of Levi H. SHRINER, son of John and Martha of Maryland

Any direct descendants of Levi H. Shriner please contact me. I have several funeral cards as well as the marriage certificate of Levi H. Shriner and Harriet E. Collings/Collins which I found in the book The History of McDonough County which I recently purchased.
Here is the information contained in the book.
"Levi H. Shriner was born in Frederick county, Maryland, October 19, 1838, and is the son of John and Martha Shriner, both natives of Maryland. The family, in 1847, moved to Fulton county, Illinois, and there our subject grew to manhood. His mother died in Maryland, but her place was supplied by his step-mother, who was before her marriage, Mrs. Margaret Rister. In 1859, Levi went ot Kansas, and after a short sojourn, they returned to Fulton county, and in march, 1861, moved to McDonough county, where he purchased 120 acres of land. He now owns 160 acres on section 5, beside other farm lands. His home farm is well improved, the dwelling house being erected at a cost of $3,500, with good barns and other farm buildings. He devotes considerable attention to raising the better grades of stock, and his fine pastures. Mr. Shriner was married December 27, 1864, to Hattie Collins, a daughter of Alex. Collins of Adams county. They have three children - Junia, Pearl and Myrtle. The family are members of the M. E. church of which Mr. Shriner is trustee. He has held the office of township collector, and in politics is a republican."

My husband's great Aunt Sue wrote:

"George Shriner's brother John Evon came from Austria-Hungary. John Evon changed his name from Shriner to Evon to excape the army in Austria. That has been my understanding, no way to prove it. His family lives in what I believe is Benning, Pa.'

I can't find a Benning, Pa so but it might be a nickname I'm not aware of. I know it's not much to go on but still trying to find all George Shriner's family.

Julie Carr

Re: Shriner Surname

Sue, Nellie is from my line. She was the daughter of Anna Munday and Thomas Lockwood. I don't have much on her mother or father. Her mother was a sister to my great grandfather Walter Scott Munday. She was on a census with him, her sister Pearl Hendershot and her grandmother Malinda Munday. Nellie first married young in Parkersburg to a Knott and later married Peter Shriner. She did die young. I am looking for a Cora E. Shriner if you have anything. I am wondering if she is the daughter of Deborah Carey Staten Shriner. Deborah Staten was listed as a witness on my Walter Munday marriage license to a Cora Dawson in Parkersburg. I later found a marriage license of one of Walter and Cora's daughters and it listed Cora as a Shriner. There is a Cora E Shriner listed in Wirt Co. on the 1900 census. I am starting to believe this may be her but cannot validate the info. Can you help?

I do not show a Catherine Shriner, daughter of Peter. I list his children as Mary, Margaret, Abraham and Jacob (of whom my husband is a descendent.) There's a line of Shriners in the the MD area that are descendent from an Edward Shriner who was Peter's brother. That might be the right Shriner. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Kristine
Would be interested in the descendants of Peter Shriner.
I have a CatherineShriner born 9/26/1797 in Maryland who married Peter Ridinger 3/15/1817 in Frederick Co (later Carroll Co). She died 12/26/1874 in Union Town. She wrote a will 2/17/1874 naming her children Isaac Ridinger, Rachael Mentzall, Lydia A. Witherow, Elizabeth Heck, Samuel Ridinger (she doesn't leave him anything but names his wife, Sarah & gives her 1/5th of her residual estate). Probate was 1/4/1875. (There were other children but evidently they were either provided for or predeceased her.)
I have been told she might be the daughter of Peter Shriner. Wondered if you have any information on this.
Betty
