My grandmother was Florence Sidler born in Melbourne Australia ,her father and mother were Louis Sidler and Louisa Golding. Louis father was Aloys Sidler born 1826 and I think he was Naturalized about 1909.
He married Sarah Maria Nottage 1852 and they lived in Meadows, South Australia.
Can anyone help me futher back ?

Hi Leonie
I do lookups for people at the Adelaide Mortlock Library when I get time. I'm an officer with the Salvation Army at Kapunda, and so is my husband. I saw your request re Aloys Sidler, and did a search when i was in the library yesterday.

I tried to look for passenger list of the "Australia" but quite a number of the lists were "away" being mended. Did Aloys come from Germany? England or where? That information would help immensley.

Meanwhile I found a little of their life here in South Australia. You may well already have this, but I'm sending it just in case!

From the Gazeteer of South Australia.

"Dashwood Gully". 5 miles (it's an old book) west of Meadows. Named after Captain George Frederick Dashwood, R.N. was an early settler.

In the late 1960's early 1970's I used to live in Meadows. It is a lovely little country town. Dashwood Gully is just that, a stretch of the main road in a gully which has beautiful trees on either side, and a few farm houses dotted here and there. A wonderfully peaceful and lovely place.

I hope the following can help. If you could get back to me with details of the origin of the original Sidlers I could have another check of the shipping lists and let you know if I find anything.

Regards
Heather

I too am looking for an Aloys Sidler who was a passenger on the ship Australia. I believe that he came from Hamburg, Germany in 1850. The spelling of his last name could be different. Any information you have would be much appreciated.

kind Regards

Rachel
