Hi, Just read your post and found it very interesting. You have really done your research. I'd like to add that I am married to a Greek man, and heard that there were many Sigala's in Greece. When we went to visit his beautiful country I found 3 full pages of Sigala's in the Athens phone directory!!! I was very surprised! My maiden name is Sigala. My dad is Charles R. Sigala who passed away over 14 years ago of a heart attack. His dad, my grandfather, was Macario which is a Greek name. I truly feel that we have alot of Greek in us. The Sigala's in Greece are very well known. They are especially known for their cigars. Like you say only God knows where we all come from. Thanks for your insite........Ramona

Hi people!

I am from Argentina, trying to find some info about my Greek rooots too. Our family surname is Santorini, from Crete, in fact our Greek ancestor was a military who moved to Calabria in Southern Italy around 1715. I have been able to trace back this part of our history but the Greek history ends where it begins. Do you know anything about this surname? I found some Santorinis in the Athens phone book, but nothing else about the history...

Thanks in advance and regards!

My grandfather was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. His family exited quickly from Italy when Italy was governed under Spainish rule and they were in danger for some reason that Spain was upset and was ready to end the bloodline(Sigala's being artist, philosophers, architects) and Spain was ready to put the Sigala family to death! So the family "SIGALA" all fled on ships to Guadalajara, MEXICO -later our family migrated via Sonora, Texas, Arizona, to reach California and some on to northern California. The Sigala name means cricket in Italian, truth in Greek, Palace in an oasis-in Egyptian, I say "FOLLOW HER" in spanish (but be careful she can be and an angel or in disguise a fallen angel) In my newest information in Hebrew the name means violet or treasure, but no one has ever told me -"Violet you're my treasure" I heard the name Sigala is also found to be Basque, French, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Philipino, and now SUCH A DEAl (jewish phrase commonly used) SIGALA = Jewish heritage, linking back to one of the 12 Hebrew tribes of Abraham. Sigala ancestry belonging to the tribe of levi -(sephardic jews). Also Jews that were in the synagogue as a LEVITE or Priest (religous title, I believe like a rabbi - priest) well they are only 50 generations from the first century. I t may be another way to link the ties to the name. The problem is that our DNA samples of Jews with LEVI ancestory are not identified yet-only some Jews are identified by DNA. Sigala families lets pull our roots together and find out the true origin of our unique and special name before Jesus comes back (His second comming)We always can ask Him after things are settled at his 1,000 year reign(JESUS SIGALA a levi name ?) >>> DON'T forget to ask...if the Second Comming does come soon-which it possibly can...He knows more than we ever could find out... We have a lot to share on the world wide web so it can be done. God Bless all of us Sigala linked people on planet earth and our ancestors. DNA tests on the male Sigala surname carriers-will help to give a few more clues to our path in migration and roots. Keep sharing. PEACE

Hi, my name is Eileen Sigala. I have just started my family tree. I just recently found out that my great grandfather (who lived in Mexico)was Macario Segala. When they came to the United States in 1898 they changed it to Sigala not sure why.I am wandering if their is any connection with your ancestors. I would love to find out his father's name and any information about him. My understanding that they most likely were from Spain.

If you have any info I would appreciate it.

The origin is mediterranean, mostly from greece but you can also find sigalas in turkey. There are Sigala and the variation of Sigalas. If you have a facebook, search the surname, you will find many sigalas, around the world, but not in spain nor france, all of them are mexicans, grandsons of inmigrants or genuine greeks.
The father of my my grandfather came from greece to a small town called Nochistlan, zacatecas, mexico, for working on minery. That is why the diaspora reach many states of mexico.

Re: the "SIGALA" family name?

Sigala family- comprised of well known Architects, Artist, & Philosophers residing in Italy (when Spain ruled their location in Italy), of Spanish heritage they left to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Sigala family were or were warned that they were in serious risk of Spain response to family angering Spain - possible death ( Spanish inquisition related problems). Slipping out of Europe on several ships, their new life was being realized in the new world of Mexico. I have been told by Greeks that it is a GREEK SURNAME AND MEANS TRUTH/ ALSO BY ITALIANS IT IS AN ITALIAN SURNAME MEANING CRICKET-pronounced differently but spelled Sigala. Sigala appears in Egypt and Basque surnames (Spain and France populations) Now it is a Jewish name in this site. Well there needs to be serious look at who what we are.

I am also a Sigala. I have heard our family is from Spain, and that we are in fact tied into the Sioux Nation. I know there are many variations to what I have heard, and unfortunately I have not seen any solid documents to say exactly where we are from. My ancestors say the native records were destroyed - mostly intentional, so I have zero proof of our ancestory, other then the spoken word. I have also been doing a lot of research and found a lot of Sigalas to be from Greece. I will check with a Greek friend on that one. I am very curious as well on where we are truly from. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

The family name is Mendoza Sigala. Grandparents were Pedro Mendoza and Sara Sigala. I still have family who live in Chihuahua, Rancho Trillo and Satevo. My mother was one of 9 siblings. My grandfather was also related to Teofilo Borunda, who was a government official in Juarez, Mexico. Teofilo's father was Cleofas. My grandfather was killed in a mining accident in Colorado I believe back in the 1930's and was buried out there. Please provide some family history from your family. At one time, I was in contact with someone who said that possibly his family tree and mine were related. Family came back from the 1600's and 1700's from Santa Fe New Mexico who traveled back and forth from Santa Fe, Guadalajara, Chihuahua, Juarez and back somewhere from the Camino Real trail period. That contact is also possibly also related to Patricia Mendoza Ludwig who is a writer in California.
