Bettie Silversmith, third wife of George W Fields was my great grandmother. Their child Johnnie Cobb Fields was my paternal grandfather. His son John William Fields was my father. I know Bettie's mother was Akey (Aggie) Sharp. I also know Bettie's half sister Sarah was Georges second wife. I've been to their grave sites. What I can't find is information on Wilson Silversmith, Bettie's father.

Bettie did have a brother named John and he was married to Katie England. They had a daughter named Betty too. That is my husband's great grandmother.

Betty Silversmith Fields had a brother named John Silversmith and our line is branched from that one. I have a copy on Betty's orbit when she passed. I also have a picture of her.

My grgrgrgrandmother is Aggie (A-Key-Polly) Sharp Shotpouch she was married to Wilson (Wil-si-ni) Silversmith both from the Old Nation. I would love any information you would care to share...I am looking at Wilson he was in the 2nd Indian Home Guard Kansas Co. H. I am thinking he too died at Honey Springs... My grgrandfather and grgrandmother are Betty Rebecca Silversmith and George Washington Fields.

I am looking for this connection. I do not know the first names. Was going through some notes of my mom's and ran across this. underneath this notation was "The Argyle Papers" Does anyone know where I might find these? Also with this same note is Milligan-Campbell. I know a Colf married a Butler and that daughter married a Milligan in 1888, Trying to find out where the Silversmith and Campbell come in at.

Wilson Silversmith had a son named John Silversmith. He was married to Katie England and they had a daughter named Betty Silversmith, named after his sister. I have copies of their Miller Roll apps.

This is a really old message, I see. I know of a "Joslin" Mayer, b. May 1895 in St. Louis, whose parents were Abraham & Hannah (Silversmith) Mayer. I realize you said Jocelyn's maiden name was Silversmith, not Mayer, but I was wondering could this be the same family?

Where was your Aggie Shotpouch from?
My grgrgrandfather was Jack Shotpouch.
Oral history has he was killed in Honey Creek
Battle.His son William went to his aunts to
live,and her husband Samuel Keys gave him his last name.
He left because was abusive to him .Wm. married
Martha Pryor from Mo. and Pryor OK.There are a few Shotpouch left in OK.They have reunion last Sun in
Aug.Jay OK.

Myrtle Silversmith was the niece of my gggrandmother Laura Josephine (Rippetoe) Lemon. My ggaunt - Hannah Belle Rippetoe lived near Myrtle and Wade Adolphus in Topeka KS after moving from Cherokee Nation OK.

If you are related to them, I'd love to hear from you and get more information.

My great grandfather was Will Snell of Oklahoma. He was apparently an Indian Chief in the Cherokee Nation. Does the Snell Cemetary have any Indian history, or your family?

Mary Lee Silversmith

WIDE RUINS, Ariz. — Services for Mary Lee Silversmith, 77, will be held at 10 a.m., today, April 4 at St. Annes Catholic Church, Klagetoh, Ariz. Burial will follow at Wide Ruins Cemetery.

Silversmith died March 29 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born Sept. 16, 1925 in Wide Ruins into the Towering House People Clan for the Edge of the Water People Clan.

Silversmith was a homemaker. Her hobbies included rugweaving, tending to her sheep, cooking, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include her sons, Stanley Lee of Sanders, Ariz., Roy Silversmith of Blue Gap, Ariz., John Silversmith of Kirtland, Franklin Silversmith of Window Rock, Donald Silversmith and Sammie Lee both of St. Johns, Ariz., Leroy Silversmith and Willie Silversmith both of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Sarah Silversmith of Wide Ruins, Lilly Silversmith and Nora Silversmith both of Salt Lake City.

Silversmith was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Silversmith Sr.; son, Frank Jr.; brother, George Lee and parents, Mary Lee Yazzie and Sam Lee Navajo.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Not sure if I would be family, maybe just by name. Supposedly, my father's name is John Silversmith, not your great grandparents, but maybe a son. I'm from Kaibeto, of the Bigman family, just ask anyone from there.

Rufus Sapp is a second great grandfather. We don't have a spouse for him but my father says that family tradition holds that Rufus' daughter Lettische was Native American.

Could this be a link? Do you have children's names?

Additional information- I am unaware of George and Betty having a son named John William Fields. I do know for a fact they had a grandson by that name. I also know for a fact they had a son named Johnnie Cobb Fields. BUT, George was also married to two other women -Mary Melvina Weir and Sarah McGee (probably Bettys sister)

The George Washington Fields I'm speaking off was born in Cherokee Nation East in 1839. He died in 1914 and is buried in Snell Cementery in Oklahoma. He had 26 children that I'm aware of. He was married to bettie Silversmith.
His parents were Ezekial Fields and Mary Ann (Polly )Sexton -buried in Fields Cementery.
Ezekial's parents were Richards Fields Jr. and Jennie Buffington.
Richard Fields Jr. parents were Richard Fields and Susannah Emory.
Note: George Washington Fields did have a son also named George Washington Fields. Both Ezekial and Richard Jr. had brothers named George also.

I too am trying to find info on the silversmiths'. We believe that Bluebird Silversmith is our gggrandfather. We know that he was a full blood cherokee. He was murdered by union troops in nc. My grandmother says that her mother ( sarah smith) remembered her father(bluebird) being dragged out of their house and taken away( after having his tonque cut out) Do any of these names ring a bell. If so I can share some of the Rackley connections to Silversmith Hope I can help.

My great great grandfather was a George Washington Fields Jr., born 1884 in Freedom,Polk County, Arkansas. His mother was G.W. Sr.'s 2nd. wife, Parmelia Yannells. I know of two other marriages, the first one being a Gordon and the mother of John William Fields, and Martha Jane Gibson, who had eight of his children. I have names of ten chidren by John William Fields and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Gibson. I would be interested in knowing what you do about the Fields.

In regards to your response. You have mentioned some names that send bells off in my head. My mom has all the information that I could give you. I have printed off your information and will give it to her and have her give me her records to send to you. We were trying to trace back to a relative that has Cherokee roll#. We thought we had proven it but they sent back a letter denying it. We have sent forth an appeal and are awaiting for a response.
As soon as I get more information from my mother, I will send it onto you.

I'm sorry I can't offer any help with the Silversmiths but I noticed on one of the messages that one of them had children with a George Washington fields. I have a great-great-great grandfather by this name. We are trying to locate one of his sons, John William Fields. He is listed in their household on the 1880 census only. We are trying to trace our relatives for their Cherokee heritage. I do know that George Washington Fields had more than one wife so maybe there is a link. Another Silversmith out of nowhere

My great grandfather's name was, "Little Silversmith." He is from the Navajo Nation area and was a full blood Navajo. I hear from my parents that he just picked a name out when the Europeans came so they could identify him in English. How he came about this name, I'm not sure. I'm sure I will never know exactly, but I may get an idea of where he got it from. Ya never know.
