Alfred E. “Baldy” Sylvester - Ohio

Ohio LOWELLVILLE – Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and at 11 a.m. at the Christ Our Savior at Holy Trinity Church in Struthers, for Alfred E. “Baldy” Sylvester, 88, who passed away at his residence Saturday morning.

Mr. Sylvester was born on Sept. 12, 1923, in Lowellville, OH ,the son of Ralph and Anna Cercone Silvestri and was a life area resident.

Baldy attended Lowellville High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945.

He retired in 1978 from the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, where he was a Crane Operator at the Campbell Works Seamless Plant for 38 years.

He was a member of the church and its Altar and Rosary Society and Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
He also was a member of the Coitsville Senior Citizens.

Besides his wife, the former Blanche A. Guidos, whom he married on July 24, 1947, he leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters Cheryl (Terry) Truman of North Carolina and Cyndi (Rick) Banasiewicz of Boardman; four grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) Farrell of Maryland, Daniel (Crystal) Truman of South Carolina, Jason Banasiewicz of Struthers and Justin (Megan Villers) Banasiewicz of Boardman; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Tyler and Aliya Truman of South Carolina; and four sisters, Millie Sferra of Youngstown, Mary Ginnetti of Lowellville, Martha Gamble of California, and Viola Thomas of Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor Furman; and two brothers, Pete and Nick Sylvester.

Should friends desire, monetary donations can be made in Baldy’s memory to the Hospice of the Valley.

The Sylvester family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 p.m.

“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes, we watched and saw you pass away. The family would like to send out a special thanks to the Hospice of the Valley’s nurses, Lori, Kim, Tammy, Marilyn, Latrell and Kristen for the excellent care they provided.

I know this is an old post, but this is Diane ( New ID here ) and I am still looking for any Silvestri ancestors.
My dad was Giovanni Antonio Silvestri Jr. His parents were John ( Giovanni) and Virginia Zottola, they lived in New Jersey. Could have lived originally in New York. Both were born in Italy, Naples, but I'm not sure exactly where. Any help is much appreciated. My dad had only one sister, Gloria, who had 3 children, Delores, Jimmy and John. They also lived in New Jersey ( only the boys are still living.) I'm hoping someone reads this and can help me find my dads' family. Today would have been his 83 birthday and I'm really hoping to find more info soon!

There was a Vincenzo Silvestry who owned a Fruit Stand, and possibly the building at 82 Mulberry Street in Manhattan in 1901. Are you sure Pietro and Rosa immigrated in the '20s?

My mother was one of Concetta's daughters in addition to Egilio, Concetta also had a sister Helen. Concetta married Alberico Maciariello and they had 7 children (I think they had more but a couple may have died young). Alfred (had 4 children), Mary (2 children), Albert(3 children), Antoinette (5 children), Edward (? children), Lena (7 children) I am one of Lena's daughters.

It's much easier to locate man then woman because of the name change when they marry. Harold past in 1976. He last lived in Smithtown, NY. He is buried in the military cemetary in Farmingdale, NY.

Their brother Edward past in 1979 in Brooklyn. Two other brothers died in the early 60s; no location listed. There was a sister named Clara but I haven't been able to find her or Anna.

I suggest using Yahoo to locate Castellani in all of the area's I've listed in including where Amodeo died.

Since you are looking for Castellani - I also suggest that you make a posting under Castellani at this website and at Genforum.com

Thanks for getting back to me. I have the info on the 1930 census, thank you anyway. Actually I am trying to find info on the Castellani family. My mother is 83 now and would love to locate an old friend, who would be Anna's brother Harold. One of the things she remembers is a last name of one of his sisters. That is how I found you. I don't know if Harold is still alive. His nickname was Hal. I am trying to find some family of his, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, ANYONE !!

That information helped a little - Anna Castellani and Amodeo Silvestre (note the spelling of the given and surname) were married in Brooklyn on June 16, 1935. Certificate number 9166. You may find this information at http://germangenealogygroup.com/default.htm or http://www.italiangen.org/. Both sites have directions on how to send for the marriage certificate. The certificate should have information that may be helpful. There is a fee.

I did find a Amodeo Silvestri in the Social Security Death Index. He died in Shelby, Missouri the 5 of Jan 2000. The SSN indicates that he received the number in New York. I don't find anything for Anna.

The Castellani family is listed in the 1930 census in Brooklyn.

Are you know to genealogy or just looking for relatives?

What other surnames from Italy are you searching. One of my ancestors went to Brazil or Argentina from Italy probably earlier than yours emigrated.

His surname was Longo, I believe.

I know my grandparents emigrated from Italy early in the 1920's. They came by ship and stopped in Brazil. I know there are some realatives in Italy and Brazil too.. Bert Joseph Silvestri, age 79, passed away peacefully at his Lake Havasu home on Oct. 21, 2007. A native of Victorville, Bert relocated to Parker, Ariz. in 1974 and continued his career as a manager for Verizon until his retirement in 1994. Bert was a past-president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Parker, Arizona Rotary Club and a firefighter volunteer with the Victorville Fire Department.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Guy and Dorothy Rose Silvestri, and his brother Hugo Guy “Hooks” Silvestri and his wife Doreen of Victorville.
Bert is survived by his wife Patti Silvestri of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; brother Thomas Anthony “Slick” Silvestri and his wife Repha of Redding; sons Patrick Joseph Silvestri and his wife Jennifer of Apple Valley, Gerry Silvestri and David Silvestri; daughters Shannon Cole and her husband Ken of Burbank and Kandis Schwab and her husband Ken of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Rosary service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 15521 Sixth St. in Victorville. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to Hospice of Havasu, P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.

My grandfathers last name was Silvestry (Cabo Rojo area). He married a Velez. If you can update me on any more info u find it would be great. im just starting at this search for relatives. It was known that they both were around the Cabo Rojo and Mayaquez areas the most.

Hi Ya Regina, this is Yakov again, I saw the listing it is very interesting. Was there any Polish, or Austrian in your family, because Vera, may have been polish and austrian as well besides Italian. Ask one of your aunts if they ever spoke to a Frances Poliandro in and around 1984. this was the year I believe she found some links to the family. Frances was the woman who was adopted in 1932, by Buonpastore. You said something about A B name who may have went to Germany, find out if this B was a Buonpastore, and get back to me on it. My great, great grandmother was Carmela Silvestri, born abt 1840 in Bari.

There's not enough there to make the connection unless we can find more about the Silvestris in Bari.

All went to Fall River, MA, two boys went to Brazil and some later as adults moved to San Jose, CA.

(Nellie) don't know her last name

Family had $15 and all going to Uncle Manuel
Silvistre (sp) at 181 Hope Street, Fall River. Can someone help with the spelling of Manuel's surname I couldn't read it.
Note: By Aug 27 he is living at 22 Grand St.

Would like info on Manuel Silvistre can't locate
him in the 1910 or 1920 census. This is probably the son of Maria that went to Brazil along with his brother.

PACHECO. We have this infomation for it's my
husbands' father & mother.

6. Francisca Frances Cabral, age 7, daughter,
marr. Frank Machado.

7. Antonio Cabral, age months, child of #3

If you have any info on the above I sure would
appreciate it. I have their childrens name's if
it would help.

I have a Silvestri from Bari in my family tree but probably will not be of help to you. My grandmother was Maddalena Silvestri born 1875 in Bari. All I was told about her was that she came from a large family and had a lot of sisters. I have not been able to trace back any further than Maddalena.

My granfdmother rosina maddalena also died in 1975. Her maiden name was Famiglietti. Her husnad nae was Orazio. rosina came from Avellino, Italy and Orazio came from Capriati, Italy. If it sound like this might be the same person i have more information.

Have a long lost cousin, Gina. But I don't suppose?
Grandfather was Antonio born in S. Italy and married to Angel Brindisi of Brindisi, Italy.. Emmigrated to states around turn of century (1900).
Had 13 children. My father was Pasquale. Other known members of family: Anthony, Joseph, Salvatore, Lena, Lucille, Anne, Grace.
All raised in Chicago around Damen and Grand.
Other family married names: Brindisi, Veronico, Evangelista.
Known cousins, Tina, Gina, Duke, Barbara, and more.

Any help at all? If not, good luck to both of us.
