I knew Christine was killed in a car accident. The twins were Mark and Steve. Where are they now? Where Is Debbie? I baby sat for them they were hellions. My sister Mary babysat for Gail and Arthur many times . I have A lot of the simonds history starting with the Vermont Simonds. I can send it to you if you would like.
Nothing like family drama...I grew up in Groveton and about 3 years ago I moved to VA. My parents themselves moved from NH to SC..I actually was talking about family history with my parents not to long ago. What brought me on search and found your post. We were discussing the native American history. I have found the Simonds heritage very intriguing by stories I have heard. For the relatives you mentioned Harold I met when I was younger. I knew Jean, because we used to visit her. I always knew. Harold as being married to Betty and they lived in Arizona. I never met Christine due to her passing when I was young, but I do know Harolds twin boys..

I never new My uncle Arthur's children. I only new his his Grandson. Harold and jean and their four kids moved to Lancaster for awhile. Christine and Debbie were great friends and we had a ball with them. They later moved away and I never have seen them again. Your grand father Arthur and his wife Gail we knew all our lives. When my uncle died he left his estate to my parents and it caused a rift in the family as these things can do. Where are you living?

I am a little confused if Your grand parents are indeed the Northumberland Simonds I know they had a Daughter Linda and I think they had a boy called Butch . Could that be your father. As far as I know Arthur and Gail were never divorced and that is what is confusing me. Also If this is your line then your line comes down william simonds and azubah from vermont. My father and your gg. grandfather would be half brothers. Jehial would be a son of azubah and william and brother to Harvey our line. is this confusing to you?

William P. Simonds, wife Sarah and daughter Ella are in the 1880 US census in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Maybe you already had that, but I did not see it in your Ancestry tree. Anyway, if the trail has gone cold, maybe you can pick it up in Chelmsford, MA. Just a suggestion ... good luck.

What I'm looking for is any documents that say when Daniel (I have his military records) or Philander were born or where they lived. My grandfather Daniel Parker Simonds said there were letters from Philander to Daniel Orville, but I do not know if they exist any more or who has them. Also if Daniel was born in 1848 where is he on the census of 1850 and 1860. Philander also does not appear on any census until later in life.

Thank you for the response...right now, it looks like Doris was born in Albany in 1908 to Fred A. Simonds and Ethel Roberson. She then moved to North Carolina and married my grandfather. Looks like Fred may have been from Massachusetts, but I'm still working on that.

Thank you again for the response!

Hi - I just started on ancestry.com because I wanted more information about my great grandmother, Minnie F. Simonds, married to William Simonds - Minnie is the mother of my grandmother, Mildred Simonds (who is the sister of your grandmother Bessie). I believe there was also Addie and Elmer who were siblings. I would love to talk to you about any other information - I have birth certificates etc and and two uncles who still talk about Minnie. I am interested in the native american connection also and just trying to put all the pieces together. Please e-mail me back if we can talk sometime. Thank you.

A Philander, surname not given, worked for/lived with the Reuben Simmons family in LaSalle Co., IL during the 1850s. He assisted the family with a move to Guthrie Co., IA in 1856 and then drops out of sight. The Reuben Simmons family originally came from the area of Brodalbine, Montgomery, NY and removed to the IL location in the 1830s. They probably stopped for a year or two in OH and first appeared in IL in the 1840 US census. There is a MI connection in that (Susan Simmons) Lay, sister of Susan Simmons, Reuben's wife, lived in Ypsilanti, MI during the 1830s.

I have been trying to establish the surname of Philander but have had no luck. He was a significant participant in the Reuben Simmons family and I suspect that he is related. If you eventually establish a connection, please let me know.

Donald Sorby (via Jacquelyn Sorby)

My Grandmother Bessie (Simonds) Gately said she had a Half sister Ruth. Her Mothers name Was Flora or Florence "Minnie" Simonds. They Called her Mother Mamie or Mamy. Could that be Ida Mae Twitchell? I was told Florence "Minne" splt with Benjamin Sinonds and married her cousin or sec Cousin William Simonds. I believe they are sons of Jehial Simonds from Dalton New Hampshire b. 1810. Ring any bells? I was told that Flora "Minnie's mother married a "Spears" that may be related to the Spears of the Narragnset tribe. And My G G Aunt Adeline Simonds who married John F. Harris from Halifax settled in Roxbury as well. She Had a picture of Jehial Simonds in his full Native regalia. There is a legend of a Mashentucket Peqout and Passamaquaddy line with Jehial. I was told his mother was a Native American. Prominant names in my Simonds line are Jehial or Jehiel, William, Calvin, Ann or Annie, Benjamin, Henry, Florence. Agusta or "Gussy". Some of this almost seems to fit or is it me???? I have A picture of Jehial, and some of the others.

James Simonds (born in 1876 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) married Athalia Nixon and their children were born in Boston & Framingham in 1906 (Ida May),1908 (Grace), 1913 (Evelyn). Evelyn, their youngest daughter, had a daughter when she was 14, named Eleanor who married Leroy Sultis and they had a son named Robert. Eleanor, Leroy & Robert lived in Roxbury, MA. James Parker Simonds married Susan Miles and had a daughter, Ruth W. Simonds, who was born in 1904 and died in 1914.

William Benjamin Simonds married Ida Mae Twitchell in 1901 their first child, Florence Cecelia, was born in 1905 in Cambridge, MA. The youngest 2 children of the five were born in Montreal, Canada. They were twins named Richard and John, but John died the same years he was born (1908). Richard had sons with Erma Douglas (Junior Douglas), a woman whose last name was Miller (Buddy Miller), and Clara Jameson (Richard Simonds, Jr.). Richard Jr got married (no name for his wife) and had twins (Richard III and Dexter). He also had a child named Calis (not sure if female or male or where these children were born).
William Benjamin also had a daughter, (Annie Burrell) with Lucy Burrell in 1902. Annie Burrell married James E. Banks and they had a son, James Jr. in 1931. They lived in Roxbury, MA. James Banks Jr. married Frances Soares in 1979, but I don't know if they had any children.
William Benjamin Simonds married Blanche Anderson in 1912. No record of any children from that marriage. Blanche died in 1922.
That is the info I have on my Simonds family line. Please send me a picture of Annie Simonds.
Thank you,
Judy Gardiner

Roxbury, MA - Dalton,NH and Vermont. There is Native American in the line. Family legends about Simonds connection to the Mashentucket Pequot Tribe the Migrated North via the connecticut river. My Grandmother was Bessie Simonds daughter of Flora "Minnie" Simonds and Flora's cousin William Simonds (intermarrige). Benjimen Simonds was Floras father and William's brother. Both son's of Jehiel or Jehial Simonds who widespread family legend say was a son of an indian princess that was the the daughter of Anniwanski . I thinkthat disbanded from Connecticut because of the threat impsoed by the treatment of the Peqouts at that time. Simonds is on the original Masantucket Peqout roles. Also my G G GrandMother Mammie (Spears)Simomnds is said to be Narragansett indian. Still confirming that.

John Edward Smonds Obituary

From the Dallas Morning News, 18 July 1896 reads...

Simonds - New York, July 18 - John Edward Simonds, formerly a member of the Illinois bar died at the Ward's Island insane asylum on Tuesday. His business interests were largely in the west. He was interested in mining and raftway constructions in California but did much of his business in New York and was well known to Wall Street bankers. His health broke down completely about two weeks ago due to overwork, and his mind being affected he was removed to Bellevue hospital and later to the Ward's Island asylum. Mr. Simonds was an authority on criminal law ans wrote a great deal on the subject. He was strongly urged at the beginning of the present administration to accept a diplomatic position, but he declined in order to purse his business enterprises. He has a brother living in Watertown, New York, where the body will be interred temporarily.
