David H Simpson, born 1885, died 7 Feb 1920 in Odessa, Lincoln county, Washington State, is buried in Odessa cemetery, of Odessa, WA.

In the same cemetery one will find Charles A Simpson, born 1875, died 1944. This is BROTHER of David H Simpson! There are three Simpson people at Odessa. The third person is Charles' wife, Gerhardina.

The two, David & Charles have a BROTHER George Simpson. David's Obit states George is in Colorado when David died in Feb 1920.

Info gather from Charles & David's death records say the father of these men was J. H. Simpson. Mother was Amanda Robinson.

David's marriage certificate states father's name as " James Simpson".

Anyone want to share or compare?
One way to know for sure woud be to locate a direct line male Simpson from your family, do the yDNA thing, and see who he comes up matching.

I would be happy to go through what clues you have, and see if there is more information to be found.
Looking for my great grandfather, Samuel Daniel Simpson

I am looking for my great grandfather. Samuel Daniel Simpson, born
July24,1878. I share the same birthday many years later! My Samuel was married to Emma Cleora Pier on August 10, 1917, at Emida, Berewah, Idaho. He is father to my grandfather Lorne Russell Simpson. I have been told that he left the family in 1932 when my grandfather was just three years old to look for work.
I have also been told that he has another family out there somewhere.
However they supposedly want nothing to do with our family. For me, if this is true, it is very sad. I feel as if I have been robbed of my personal history, which I have the right to know.
Also if this is true, and anyone from this other family should come across this post please know that all I am looking for is his information, prior to and leading up to his history with my great grandmother.
If anyone has any info, please email me at simpberrykid@gmail.com.
Thank you!

Joseph Reynolds b abt 1819 in Kentucky m Amanda Gatrell b abt 1822

I'm trying to identify the parents and birth date/location of Joseph Reynolds, born about 1819 in Kentucky.

Here is what I know. Joseph was married to Amanda Gatrell in Russell County, KY, by (pastor?) Wm. A. Cooper, on 21 April 1842. Amanda was born about 1822. Her parents were Dennis Gatrell (b abt 1875) and Agnes Payne (b abt 1789 to Philemon Payne and Rachel Wilson). Joseph and Amanda had nine children:
(1) James Tipton b abt 1842 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. He m Loduska Leathers in AR in 1872. Then m Mary Elizabeth Heaton in 1878 in AR.
(2) Sabra Ann b abt 1845 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. She m William Calvin Curnutt abt 1868 in Arkansas
(3) Sarah Ann b abt 1846 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. She m Samuel Jackson Cowan abt 1871 in Arkansas
(4) Martin Taylor b abt 1848 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. He m Rebecca Collins abt 1878 in Texas
(5) Artimecy Elizabeth b abt 1850 in Polk Co, MO. She m Samuel Jackson Cowan abt 1880 in Missouri. By that time Samuel was the widower of her sister, Sarah Ann.
(6) Lucinda A b abt 1853 in Polk Co, MO.
(7) Mary A b abt 1855 in Polk Co, MO.
(8) Joseph O b abt 1859 in Carroll Co, AR.
(9) Franklin Davenport b 1862 in Harrison, Carroll Co, AR. He m Margaret Elizabeth Collins (sister of Rebecca Collins, above) in 1882 in Denton Co, TX.

The family moved from Russell or Wayne County, KY, to Polk County, MO, about 1847-8. They moved about the same time as a few other close families from Wayne County, KY: McKinneys, Higginbothams, Dowells and Simpsons. Each of these families were related to Amanda through her mother, Agnes Payne. More specifically, males from each of these families married sisters of Agnes in the 1820s in Wayne Co, KY.

Joseph, Amanda, and several children are listed in the 1850 census in Polk Co. Some land patents list a Joseph Reynolds as a patentee in Polk Co. The family later moved to NW Arkansas and are listed in Carroll Co in the 1860 census. It appears that Joseph fought for the 15th Arkansas Northwest Confederate Regiment. Contrary to death info provided for Joseph on many ancestry.com trees, the Civil war records I've found don't indicate that he died, or even served in the battle of Vicksburg. Some civil war records indicate that a Joseph Reynolds from the 15th Arkansas NW Regiment lived until the end of the war.

Amanda remarried Henry Holt in Boone Co, AR, in 1870. She died in 1904 and is buried in Perryman Cemetery in Montague Co, TX, along with her sons James Tipton Reynolds and Martin Taylor Reynolds.

I'd be glad to be in touch with any other researcher looking at this family and any associated families. Of particular interest is any information on Joseph's origins, including birth location and/or parents. I'm glad to share the additional info that I have so please don't hesitate to reach me.

Thanks in advance!
Tommy Reynolds

Hello. I am doing this because my Husband's Great Grandfather was a David Henry Simpson, born 1885, died 1920 in WA.

David Henry Simpson was born on June 1st, 1885 in Missouri. Sadly David died Feb 7th, 1920 in Odessa, Lincoln County, Washington State, after Drilling the Town WELL. He leaves behind a wife and family. Wife Glee A. Emery Simpson.

In the Obit for David H. Simpson it states his father as a James Simpson from Kentucky. David's mother as Amanda Robertson born in IOWA.

Informant was a Charles Simpson, brother of David's. And another brother George Simpson was also mentioned. George is from Colorado, and Charles was drilling wells in the area also. Area we are talking about is South-Eastern Washington State.

Untertaker for David H. Simpson was G.B. Stone of Odessa, WA.

HERE IS WHO I FOUND IN THE LOCAL CEMETERIES:

Fairview Cemetery, Spokane County, WA;
Philip Simpson, born 1906, died 1917; 183-F-Old, Bro of Richard.

Richard Simpson, born 1913, died 1914; 183-J-Old, son of Wm. Simpson. {D/O = Daughter Of}

ALL listings here may be found at Washington State's Digital Archives. www.digitalarchives.wa.gov

I do have a personal interest in the Simpson surname. It stems from my husband's great Grandfather; David H. Simpson as before mentioned.

I wonder if some of David Simpson's family is listed here, in this post?

Is Charles H. Simpson, born 1890, died 1951, a brother of David's. Looking for an Obit for this man, and Bess E. Simpson that he is buried next to.

Margret A. Simpson at the Silver Creek Cemetery is of interest to me only because there are no other "Simpson" people listed in the area cemeteries, that I have found, that were born early enough to be her parents. And I think her first name maybe mis-spelled. Should it be spelled Margaret??? Margaret A. Simpson daughter of R. and E. Simpson?

Oh, and than there is Amanda Robertson, mother of David Henry Simpson. I do not know if Robertson is her maiden name, or if she remarried again. In David's obit it is mentioned that she is still alive, but living in the Midwest. Iowa, or Missouri, some where like that. Robertson is another Surname that I research. Same area too, the Midwest south centeral area.

Happy Trails, Chris
reach me at jfkcrsd@yahoo.com
ATTACHMENT is an birth certificate for a Dorothy Pearl Simpson. States parents are George Smith Simpson and Anna Maria WOOD. From Albion, Whitman County, Washington State, registered number 3026. Looks like April 9, 1905 was the birth DAY. The year is stamped over by the Notary's Stamp, so is hard to read. This document was Notarized on July 24, 1963. :)
Wow, have you caught my attention!!!
I descend from Benjamin D. Simpson (about 1777-1853), whose wife was Mary G. Roberson (married 5 March 1808 in Livingston Co KY). Along with their own passel of kids, they raised a James E. Simpson, who was born 1818 in the area that became Franklin Co MO in 1819(in the portion that became Gasconade Co somewhat later). He is a good candidate for your James Simpson.
And Benjamin D. Simpson had a brother James M. Simpson, who died 1845 in Gasconade CO MO. His first wife was Phoebe S. Unknown - she was probably the mother of James E. Simpson. The second wife of James M. Simpson was Rachel Hubbard.
Benjamin D. and James M. Simpson were among the fourteen children of William Simpson III and Mary Roberson, whose brother Samuel Roberson was also Benjamin D. Simpson's father-in-law. Yes, my branch of the Simpsons were ever-so-fond of their cousins.
At least one of Samuel Roberson's children lived in Des Moines, Iowa. As I recall, she was married to one of her Dodd cousins, who whose mother was a Simpson, etc! Oh, this family could not decide if their name was Roberson, Robertson, Robeson, or Robinson.
I live in Spokane Co WA, and would love to work with you on this! I will write to you directly.

Hi, Jenni - thanks for your reply. I had that information about Blanche, although I don't know where her mother's name as Olive comes from as on her NSW death index record her mother's name is given as Alice (with father as Henry).

What set me on this other path was that I was going over the records I had again and noticed that in the 1918 death notice for Blanche's son, Horace William Garling, it was stated that he was the dearly loved nephew of Harry and Amy Mortimer. I knew for sure that the Mortimers weren't on the Garling side, which meant they were on Blanche's side. More searching the newspapers gave me mentions of Blanche in the 1897 funeral notices for Albert James Simpson as her brother and in the 1923 memorial notices for the 1922 death of Henry Walter Mortimer, Blanche and her family also inserted a notice for Henry as their beloved brother-in-law and uncle.

I'm now wondering if Blanche was Alice's child from a previous marriage/relationship. There is a Blanche Ellen Sarah (Blanche seems to have also gone by these names) Wright born to Henry Wright and Alice Edwards in 1871 in Victoria. Which would make William Simpson her stepfather but his children her siblings, which would explain the newspaper notices. Do you know anything about Alice before she married William Simpson? Have you ever seen Alice Edwards/Simpson's death or marriage certificates?

Regards

Olwen

Hi, I've been looking at this family because Blanche Ellinor Simpson married Charles Clarence Garling (a great grand uncle). I've got the children of William Simpson and Alice E Edwards as: William Edwards Simpson (1874 - 28 May 1930); Alice Simpson (1876 - 1899); Frances Mary Simpson (1878 - 12 Jan 1966, married Charles John Reeves Bamford); Amy Elizabeth Simpson (1881 - 25 Jan 1944, married Henry Walter Mortimer, then James Alfred Willis); Albert James Simpson (1885 - 28 Jul 1897); Blanche Ellinor Simpson (? - 27 Mar 1941, married Charles Clarence Garling), plus one more son as Albert is mentioned as the third son of William Simpson in his death notice. I haven't been able to find a birth for Blanche and from the birth index possible second son could be Herbert John S Simpson or Ewen P Simpson or, like Blanche, he doesn't have a birth index record. Are you able to help me with this?

Regards

Olwen
Canberra

Sheldon,
I'm sure Zilpha is deceased, but I'm looking for an exact date if someone has that. Sometimes things are put online and then it just becomes accepted. Would you know anyone that could verify her death as 1806? With her birth given as about 1774, I don't think she would be the mother of all of Edmond's oldest children. The 1800 census indicates he had daughters born about 1788/1789, which would not seem likely of Zilpha being the mother. Of course, census records could be wrong and/or her age could be older.

I'm aware that the Murphy researchers are looking for Richard and Arthur and can't seem to locate them.

If you know of anyone that could provide any evidence of Zilpha's birth and death, I would appreciate it.
Cynthia

I have been doing genealogy for some time now. I have Zilpha being born in 1774 and passing away in 1806 in Union Co., SC. I'll bet 'dollars for donuts' that she is dead. She would be 238 years old now. Though Murphys are known to be 'long lived', it would be a record.

Instead, I propose a more valuable study: Where is evidence of who is Simon I, Richard and Arthur's mother and father [Simon II gfather and gmother]? We don't know for sure.

murphysheldon35@gmail.com

Sheldon,
I am descendant of Edmond Simpson thru his 2nd wife. He married after Zilpha died. I am looking for proof of Zilpha's death. Have seen letter that Isaac Murphy wrote naming the children of Simon and Sarah. Have deed from Union County, SC 1795 where Edmond and Zelphy Simpson are selling land. Many people have placed Israel Simpson as a son of Edmond's but the only reason I believe that is Israel (Isaac) was in Union County census. Edmond and some of his younger children were members of Padgett's Creek Church in the 1830's. His second wife was a daughter of William and Eleanor Beard. Edmond's will names his four youngest children: Samuel, William, Mary/Polly, and Edmond, Jr. and names Bird. If you have anything on Zelpha's death, estate record of Sarah Murphy, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.
Cynthia csh148atgmail.com

I would like to correspond with you about Samuel Simpson in Wilkes County, NC. I'm looking for proof that he can be connected to Wilkes County. My ggggrandfather was Edmond Simpson born 1765 Wilkes County died 1835 in Union County, SC. Filed a Revolutionary War pension application where his birth is given. I know that Samuel who went to Kentucky had a son named Edmond. I'm looking for my Edmond's father and mother. I believe that if these men are not brothers, then they are closely related. The father may be a Samuel or John Simpson. I have corresponded with a descendant of Samuel but have not seen definitive proof that this Samuel in Kentucky was the same Samuel in Wilkes. Look forward to hearing from you. Cynthia
csh148 at gmail.com --replace at with @

B. Smith Snr would have been born about 1806. Mary Simpson, his wife, about 1807. A.B. and Mary had a son born called "George Rennie Smith" (1829 in Turriff) and I was able to marry him up with Margaret Simpson marrying George Rennie in Cruden in 1806. She was born 1788 and is the older sister of Mary Simpson. That is all the info. I have. I wonder where the Bruce came from in the Smith family.

These families are all related to each other. Smith was associated with Cruden, Slains and Turriff. Others are all Cruden. Names are "Alexander B. Smith" "Mary or Mary Ann Simpson" daughter of "John Simpson" b. 1807. "George Rennie" m. Margaret Simpson. I suspect the Bruce came into the family as a result of a female Bruce marrying a Smith. Also could be someone the family had worked for or was closely associated with. I'd like to find how the Bruce got to be in the name.

Hi there,

We are definately distant relatives.

My GGGrandparents were Alexander/Anne Simpson (nee Gordon, their son David (brother of Alexander your direct relative) was my GGrandfather. David had a son (David Alexander Simpson born 23rd June 1884 at Moathill, Beholm)- my Grandfather in turn went on to have my father Alexander Simpson (born 14th November 1918 in Gourdon). My father had one brother David and 3 sisters Anne(Nan), Mary and Jess.

My GGGGrandparents Alexander Simpson's parents were David Simpson baptized 9th August 1758 at Inchbare, Stratcathro, he married Elizabeth Anderson on 16th August 1794, they were married at Saint Vigeans and he was a crofter. Alexander Simpson/Elizabeth Anderson had the following children:-

Elspet Simpson - 5th August 1791
John Simpson - 25th November 1785
Jean Simpson - 11th May 1787
Elizabeth Simpson - 5th April 1790
Isobel Simpson - 8th November 1793
Robert Simpson - 23rd July 1795
David and William Simpson - 30th May 1797
Peter Simpson - 22nd December 1800
Margaret Simpson - 23rd September 1803
Mary Simpson - 11th May 1807
Joseph Simpson - 21st March 1810
Janet Simpson - 19th January 1799
David Simpson - 30th October 1800?
Alexander Simpson - 11th August 1805 (my gggrandafather).

Although I haven't as yet been able to find David Simpson's parents I have discovered that Elizabeth Anderson's parent were John Anderson and Jean Watt or Reid, they were married 10th August 1764 at Stracathro in Angus.

Lovely to hear from you and it amazes me where families end up over the course of time. I know through doing family history that other branches of my family emigrated to America, Canada and Australia.

Hallo... My Alexander and Annie had 6 children. 1. All the Alexanders were born in Scotland and Norman was born in Washington State. Alexander and Katherina die and are buried in Mabton Wash.

Simpson (b.1930), her mother's name is listed in 1850 census as Dolly (b. 1805),in 1960 census, her name is Darley Simpson. her brothers are as listed in 1850 census,Henry (1832), Moses and Aaron (twins)(1835), Arthur(1838), Morris(1839), and Peter(1842). Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I find info on other peoples trees but I am unable to verify any of it. Thanks...Nina

Louis Simpson(Vahlbusch?)

I am currently looking for Louis Simpson, who was born in Dec 1867 according to the 1910 census. His wife was Mary Jane McSherry who was born Sept 23rd, 1881 in NYC and died 21 Jan 1943 in NYC. She married a person named Frederick Gall probably sometime after 1913.

Louis Simpson has been a hard one to track, and in the two censuses they list his parents as coming from Ireland. In the next one they list his father as coming from Scotland and his mother from Germany.

This seems to make sense given his last name, which is Scottish, if it is actually Simpson in the first place. The problem is that their is a consistent story on that side of the family that he changed it from Vahlbusch to Simpson.

I think he did this when he started working with the Unions, which could have occurred before the 1900s. He is listed in a Union strike, in 1910/1911 in the New York Times, against the Teamster Union.

He supposedly was a trucker, but I am trying to put his whole background together. Its a bit confusing, and right now I am trusting the family sources, but some evidence seems to point to the fact that his surname and father were actually Scottish. I even found a possible link to a Joseph Simpson who was born in New York in 1826.

He married with a woman whose family came from Prussia, and he was a carpenter, which was something I know Louis' son had a hobby for in part. I would like any help I can get, and I am sure there are connections out there.

Regards

Alexander Simpson (Again, lol) b. 1800 Haverhill Mass.

Im curious to know if this is the Alexander Simpson I am looking for..I've been stuck on him for about three years now. Alexander Simpson born September 28 1800 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts to Alexander Simpson and Susanna Knight. Im really just taking a shot in the dark with this one as I cannot find much information elsewhere. Alexander Simpson would have moved to the Greenup county area of Kentucky in around 1818-1820 and married Margaret Ulin (Of the famous Benjamin Ulin Sr. family line) in 1822. After their marriage a single census lists their residence as Greenup Kentucky in 1830, and he has a child in 1835 (Charles A. Simpson), and in J.P. Babingtons book he states Margaret(Alexander's wife) lived in Pendleton City as the Widow Simpson in 1853.. That's pretty much all I have..any help would be appreciated.

Catherine Simpson (b ca1738 NJ)

Seek information on Catherine Simpson who married WILLIAM JONES ca1754. They lived in Chester County SC.

She was the daughter of ARCHIBALD SIMPSON b.ca1712, and the sister of Scots-Irish Presbyterian Preacher, Rev. John Simpson, who urged his congregants to support the American Cause for Liberty and Independence by enlisting in the Militia himself. The British Army burned his Church meeting places.

Specifically, I want documentation as to whether ARCHIBALD SIMPSON and/or his son-in-law, WILLIAM JONES provided Patriotic Service, or served in the Militia during the Revolutionary War.

William and Catherine's son, Jonathan Jones, was a RS who is buried in Fishing Creek Church Cemetery in Chester County.

Any information will be appreciated.
