Frederick(1878-1966) was my grandfather & Francis was my great grandmother, widowed by William Sims, Wittersham, Kent, England in 1878. They emigranted to Kirkland NY in 1881. No success in finding ship they emigranted on or which port they landed at or why they came to US. Any info would be helpful. Grandpa married Florence Belle Colegrove 1905, daughter of John Colegrove and Eunice Martha Tallman so there are Colegrove connections too. Thank you - John Colegrove Sims Jr

This thread is old, but I'm going to give it a try anyway. I'm looking for a William J. Sims (who possibly married a Bynum) who was the son of John Sims and Millie Clarinda Holifield and who had a son by the name (maybe a nickname) of Hugger. Could your William J. be him?

Fred Carroll Sims Jr. was my grandfather. He lived in Spartanburg. His son, Dennis Carroll Sims, was my father. His wife, Betty Jo Taylor Sims, was my grandmother. You are correct. Fred Sr. did die of a self inflicted gunshot wound. E-mail me and I will communicate more of what I know.

Hello,

I came across this post by doing an internet search on "Sidney Sims, Rockcastle County, KY". It brought up your Ancestry.com query from the year 2000. Please forgive me if I've already contacted you via Ancestry.com. I looked on Ancestry just now and couldn't find DJClark4958; however, it does sound familiar to me.

Sidney and Eliza Jane York Sims were my grandparents. I lived next door to them the first 14 years of my life. Christopher H. "Kit" York is also MY great-grandfather. I used to be best friends with one of Hannah's descendants. You said in this query you would forward information you had to any kin. I will do the same. I will be happy to provide you with my email address. Thanks very much.

Abney/Hampton/Sims/York

I would like to get some information on this family. My ex husband was very vague about his roots and I have not had much success with his other siblings. My children have been asking questioning their birth roots and it would be nice to know. All I know is Billy Sims was father to Brenda, Mary, Michael, Billy and there was another brother, but, I do not remember his name. The family resided in Florida before becoming adopted out. i see that the grandfather was Earby Sims, also the birth name of my ex husband. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I now know that Gilbert Sims b. 1979, in South Wraxall, Somerset...did not marry and live in Chicago...so I have been able to eliminate this potential road. However, I still would love to know what happened to him, after 1911 where the census lists him as a Gentleman's attendant in a nightclub in the Herne Hill/Brixton area. Have heard rumors that he visited or worked for a short period of time in the 1940's/1950's.

That makes sense...Gilbert Henry Sims, born 1879 South Wraxall Somerset. Married Mary Victoria Coles, born Western-Super-Mare, married 1904. They had two children, Gabriella Victoria Sims and Montague Hamilton Sims, but he was always know as "Jack." He left them at ages two and three and as I said, is my enigma. I know he was a seaman and earned a medal during the Boar War, and after the Census was probably taken...skipped town...the only other thing I know was at the time he was a gentleman's bathroom attendant a nightclub.

Do you know what the second died from as he was pretty young.

I am descended from the second husband of Mattie, John Sidney Riggs. I am interested in the Leitch line if you have anything earlier than Mattie's father, Wm Y Leitch.

Let me know if I can help in any way.
David

Hi, just wondering if your still searching for a Richard Sims ? Not that I have any info about him, but I have a similar story about a Humphrey Sims. Humphrey was born around 1835c and was tried at York assizes 1854 and sent to Australia ariving in 1856 on the Runneymeade. His father was called John Sims,a Brewer. My Humphrey is thought to have married an Elizabeth Gavin in Geraldton area of WA.
I cant find Humphrey/father at all on the census's 1841/51 in uk. Wonder if Richard and Humphrey were related at all...? I have no firm proof where Humphrey was born, but maybe it could be Ireland ??

Hi David,
This is the same information that I have and no more. I have not done any original research. My cousin's wife is doing some research. I may have other information but it is not easily accessible right now. We did visit the Manigault House in Charleston this past week and met the assistant archivist of the museum. I am wondering if she would have some further information. Her name is Jennifer McCormick..jmccormick@charlestonmuseum.org.

Yes, I am a descendant of John Marshall and Mattie Reynolds Leitch. Their son William Young Leitch Marshall was my great grandfather. His son, George Norton Marshall, was my grandfather.

And what is your connection to this family? Are we cousins? Thanks David!

Great! Do you have any information on the Sims family. I only have that Martha Sims was the eldest daughter of Captain William and Elizabeth Sims and nothing more.

Also are you descended from John Marshall and Mattie Leitch?

Thanks
David Smith

Hello, can anyone clarify whether James Sanford Simms from Missouri was the son of William Simms and Elizabeth Price or William Simms and Elizabeth Endsley? Most family trees on ancestry.com say Price, does anybody have any record? I think its Endsley by the weight of the evidence but would like to know for sure. Thanks.

William Sims - Autauga County Alabama

William is my GrGrGrandfather. Apparently, new records have been released and I found 90 pages of estate records including his will listing all of his children & wife Elizabeth (1840) on FamilySearch.org in the collection Alabama County Estate Records.
Since any records about William have been almost none existent, I thought this would be of interest to anyone researching this branch of Sims. I think his father was Nathan Sims Abbeyville SC. but have no proof. Anyway, from an historical prospective, It is a wonderful record of life in the South in 1840's.

It would appear that my great-grandfather was as they used to say "a bit of a cad." He left my great-grandmother with a son aged 2, and a daughter aged 3. My great aunt died well into her 80's, in Sidcup, Kent. Her married name was Knight.

Back to the enigma. Gilbert...seaman, medal winner, maybe emigrated to U.S. through New York, and married Lillie, or may have emigrated through Canada, and crossed into the U.S. and lived in the Chicago area, and married and had at least one child...have no idea which thread is him, or if they are both wrong.

Any info would be greatly apppreciated.

Update on Emma Sims

Update on my Emma MANERS SIMS. Family stories and my grandmothers bible led me to believe Emma MANERS was married to Charlie SIMS when she died. To my surprise, I found Emma had married a John Mack FIELDER in 1912 (I found marriage license and death certificate and she did not die until 1914. My grandmothers bible was in error probably because she was only a small child when her mother died and the info would have been given to her later in her grown life. Emma married under her maiden name of Mrs. Emma MANERS. She had no known children with Mack FIELDER. My grandmother's father was supposedly Charlie SIMS. I have not found their marriage license. Maybe they were unmarried and just kept the story going for the family's sake. Emma's death certificate has her mother and fathers names on it so I am sure this is hers. She was only married approx 2 years before she died in 1914 in Orysa TN. Mack remarried and is buried at Elam Cemetery according to his death certificate. Emma's final resting place is unknown. I have checked every cemetery listing I can find. Hoping for help from anyone familiar with these names.

SIMS - RICHARDSON - BUNTING Families, Durham, England

Hello,

I am looking for the ancestors of John Elliott SIMS (abt 1815 - 1871) and Dorothy RICHARDSON (abt 1815 - 1902). John's father was also named John SIMS, but I do not have his birth, marriage or death info. Both John SIMS may have been born in Scotland, but for the younger, some records show Holly Bush, Durham, England.

Dorothy RICHARDSON's father was James RICHARDSON, but I do not have his birth, marriage or death information. Dorothy was born somewhere in Durham, and married John Elliott SIMS at St. Nichols, Durham. Dorothy and John had the following children:

Dorothy Esther
John (some records show "Alan John")
James
David
Mary Jane
Margaret "Maggie"
Thomas
William

Dorothy Esther SIMS, born February 1842, possibly in Holly Bush, Durham, married Thomas Harland BUNTING, and they had the following known children:

Mary
John
Margaret
Thomas

Margaret "Maggie" SIMS, born in Coxhoe, Durham in July 1856 married Elijah DREW and had the following children:

Mary Elizabeth
Dorothy
Margaret "Maggie"
John William "Billy"
Willam

All of the above children of Margaret "Maggie" SIMS and Elijah DREW moved to the Scranton, PA area.

If this sounds like anyone's family, please write! I'm happy to share what info and pictures I have!
It will take several months to transcribe all the states.

The time period that you are seeking information from is too recent.

Only death records + marriage records are sometimes available [depending on the state].

Her father was Charlie or Charles Edward Sims not sure of birth date or death date and not sure about her mother's name. My great grandmother lived and died in Williamsburgh county, South Carolina.....If anyone knows anything about any of the family of sims in that area let me know or if you have ancestors that meet that criteria. Thank you been searching forever for her information as well as other family members she claimed she was Native American and looked like it but can not find any info on her. It is difficult to find info on her possibly because she could not read, write, or count currency.
