Nicholas Sinnots's in my message above was born in Co Wexford. His parents were John Sinnott and either Elizabeth or Mary White. This family wound up in the Santa Clara Sant Cruz area of CA.

Connecting names Murdock, O'Connor, Thorpe, Winterhalder, Lawlor, Adam,
Alice Sinnott Murdock was Johns sister I think and they also had two brothers I believe (at least 1) name may have been Patrick.

Good Luck
Barbara

Hi Kris,

I am the daughter- in- law of Elizabeth, who is descendent of Ann Bass and Edward Sinnot. Their daughter Catherine Florence Lewis was her mother, unknown father. If my calculations are correct my husband and his two siblings are also great great grand children of Catherine also. She would love to see photos of of any of the family of this side as she was adopted as a newborn and would love to see who she might look like.

I would be grateful for any information for her.

Thanks

Marianne

Mathew Sinnott of Ft. Winnebago, Columbia County, Wisconsin, b. Nov. 1820

I am trying to determine if there is a relationship between my greatgrandfather Matthew Sinnott and this Mathew (only one "t") Sinnott b. Nov 1820 in Ireland who came to America in 1849, married Mary D.(also from Ireland) in 1852, lived in Fort Winnabago, Columbia,Wisconsin, and had 11 children: Robert/1857;Mary A./1859;Nelly/1861; Sarah/1863; Walter/1865;Lawrence/1867; Katherine/1869;Joseph/1871;Agnes/1873;Mathew A/1875; and a second Mathew--Mathew Peter/1883. I am presuming that the son Mathew A. died after 1880 and before the birth of Mathew Peter in 1883--that birthdate is from his WWI draft registration card.

My great grandfather was born in Wexford, Ireland, in 1837, was a sailor until about 1864, settled in Waubeka, Wisconsin, married Mary Walsh, also from Ireland. They had 4 children there and moved to a farm in Clyde, Cloud, Kansas in 1878 where two more children were born--the last child, Walter died as a baby.

There are two reasons I think there might be a connection. First, if Mathew Sinnott was an uncle or cousin of my ggrandfather and already in Wisconsin, that would be a reason to opt for coming to Wisconsin. Secondly, both families share a number of male names in common: Matthew, Walter, Lawrence. These names seem a bit less common in usage than John and Patrick, so perhaps there is a link?

Robert left Brooklyn shortly after the start of WWII and enlisted in the U.S. Marines (age 16/17). He eventually resided in Philadelphia, PA. Victor, after retirement, relocated to up state NY. I believe to Middletown, NY. Maude died early in Robert's life.

I think sinnott can be spelled 72 different ways or so i believe. It all deepened on who was writing the name or taking it down. chris

Sinnott is a very common surname in County Wexford. I believe you're finding several people with the same names and assuming they're the same family members. There wasn't just one Sinnott family in County Wexford.

There was no divorce in Ireland until 1995.

It's hightly unlikely that Michael's father had one child in 1845 and two more within two months of each other in 1867 by two different mothers.

Best of luck in your research!

Yes it is possible forthe the two dates as the two had different mothers. Mary's mother was Margaret and Michael's mother was Mary Taylor. This could have been the reason for the divorce or second marriage.

Regards
Gregory Bunker

Hello,
Yes I have a birth record and and Michael George was born in Enniscorthy on 29 March 1867. His father Michael and Mother Mary lived on Nunnery Road. His mothers name was Mary Taylor. His father Michael Sinnott was a Labourer. Yes he had a sister Anne and was born about 1835 to his father and his father's first wife Marquaret Walsh. He also had a Brother Thomas born about 1864 and a sister named Mary born about 1867 the same as him only on the 31 of May 1867. I do not have certificates for them but are found on the Familysearch site.

Wexford, Ireland was he born from the cert?

Civil registration of births didn't start in Ireland until 1864. Where were you able to find a birth record for Anne Sinnott who you mention is his sister and was born in 1845 to a different mother in Co. Wexford? There was a 22 year age difference then between the two? Where in Co. Wexford was she born?

Michael George Sinnott was born in 1867 we now believe. His mother was Mary Taylor. Have received a birth certificate for a Michael Sinnott. Anne Sinnott his sister was born by a different mother in 1845 and married a Patrick Murphy about 1865. MGS came to England sometime after 1901 as he is not in the census records for 1901 but was married in Oxford in 1908. Also believe he had a brother Thomas who was killed in France in WW1 and a sister Mary who was born in the same year as him 1867 but by a different mother.
Hope this helps.
gregbunker@blueyonder.co.uk
Gregory Bunker

Dates would be very helpful for any of the children. Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 and the index microfilms can be searched through your nearest LDS Family History Centre. They're in date order. With the index information you can order birth certs from the General Register Office http://www.groireland.ie

The 1901 and 1911 census records aren't online as yet. No census records survive pre-1901. There are plans to put the census records online by summer 2009. When you determine where in Co. Wexford the birth occurred you can also order the census microfilm for that location through your nearest LDS Family History Centre.
