Yes, the German connection is interesting. Sarah's mother Elizabeth Jane was the daughter of a publican, John Thies who was born in Germany. I have found him in 1851 - a beer house keeper living with a wife and 4 children in Hammersmith. As well being canal boatmen (and before that River Thames watermen going back to at least 1703) the Sivers were also publicans at Northolt. This is where Henry Sivers and Elizabeth married in 1863. Elizabeth was by this time a widow and was married under the name of Bowyer. The Bowyers were also canal boatmen.
Henry Sivers, your gt grandfather, died in 1907 and Elizabeth is in an institution in Swindon on the 1911 census.
I write a newsletter each year for the extended Sivers family and have written about your family in a couple of issues. I am happy to send you these and other information - can you let me have your email address please?
Christine

Hi I thought it was about time I tried to confirm some family anecdotes especially after a distant relative in Canada asked for inf. So please, anything you have will be appreciated. One of Sarah's children,my Aunt Harriet was sent to Grandparents in Germany where she only had chickens to play with. One of my grandmothers-great grandmothers was born on a narrow boat from Hamburg, the family fortune was lost in a card game with the only thing left a canal wharf with the family name. I vaguely remember visiting Sarah Sivers about 1943 when she was living with her daughter Ivy in Slough. I'll send you acces to my tree soon but its only just started. Again many thanks.,

Henry was a brother of my great grandfather William Sivers.
The family were boatmen on the Grand Union Canal although Henry was a grocer Norwood in later life.
I have researched the Sivers family thoroughly and also run the Sivers One Name Study at the Guild of One Name Studies.
I know thet George collins asnd Sarah Elizabeth moved to Swindon and raised a family there.
I can certainly fill you in on the Sivers family if you would like to get in touch.
colbourne@btinternet.com

Christine Colbourne

Hi there

I am researching the Sivers family from here in NZ.
My GG Grandparents were Jane Sivers (b. 1842) who married Joseph Kempster (b. 1841). Both their parents Richard Sivers (b. abt 1811) and Joseph Kempster are listed as Boatman on their baptism records. Perhaps you may have more info on the family as they seem rather elusive from this end.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Family stories say that he was married in New York State and may have been from the Copperstown area in NY. Does anyone have any information on the family?

the book is about covert michigan. I just remember being told about it that it has to do with the sivers logging and developing covert. I don't know if it is Gilbert or Michael. I do know that there is someone in Oklahoma that had traced the Sivers(Michael) all the way back to somewhere and had gotten the coat of arms and everything of course I was a teenager when my grandmother told me about it so I don't remember a lot just that they were in Oklahoma. I am going back to Mich in June if you would like pictures of the graves for Michael and Vesta

I am from George's line along with most of the others who are searching this family. We have located Michael and Vesta in the 1870 and 1880 census.

Do you remember how long ago you found/saw this book and was it a history of town or county, or state?

I highly doubt that there is any relation, but I think was named after my great grandfather (first name). I was raised in Elmira NY. I don't know much about my family history. My mother's name is Lelah Mae Sivers. From what I understand, I am 1/4 Cherokee, my mother was 1/2 (each of her parents were 1/2). Elmira is only 8 miles from the NY/PA border, so there is a chance that that side of my family may have been from PA. I am also looking for information about my grandpaernts or older relatives. Unfortunately I don't have many details, and would have to contact my mother to see how much she knows. Any info you may have would be appreciated. Feel free to contact me via e-mail (nsivers1@nycap.rr.com). It may take me several days if not weeks to respond (I'm currently a graduate student at SUNY Albany), so please don't be offended if it takes a while.

Hello Scott

I was interested to read that your family may possibly have roots in England.
I have collected all the bmd registrations from 1837 - to the present day. I had a check to see whether there was a Kenneth Sivers- in case Kenneth may be a family name - but there are no entries with that name. Let me know if you find any more information. There were certainly Sivers from the different branches of the Sivers family in England who emigrated to the U.S.

Best wishes

Christine Colbourne

West Sussex U.K

Susan - I had an e-mail a couple of years ago from Hank Beecher. He was also researching Jacob Siver. As far as I know Jacob did not come from England.
Hank's e-mail address was Hwb@epix.net
I hope you manage to get in touch with him.

Christine Colbourne nee Sivers
Member of the Guild of One-Name Studies, researching SIVERS

Jacob Sivers does not ring a bell, as the first ancestor of my line to emigrate was John Sivers in 1949. However, I will forward this message on to a fellow Sivers researcher in England. Perhaps it's her line.

I've recently come across a single reference to Sivers in my research. Caroline (Sivers) Rolls was my great-great-grandmother. The only mention of her is on the "her mother" line of an old faded copy of a pedigree chart that's actually for her son-in-law. All I know is that her husband was Henry Rolls, and their daughter Caroline was born 9/3/1866 in Oswego, NY. Not much, huh. On the off chance that this scrap ties in with anybody else's records, I'd appreciate knowing.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that I am more directly desended from Sweden. My great-great grandfather Alfred immigrated to the U.S. in 1882. So as you can see, sometimes it does not pay to listen to vague family stories. I'll continue my search elsewhere. Scott Sivers
