I'll pass it along to her and see if she's able to find the results from their test. I did see that you can manually input the results from another testing company for comparison so maybe we can come up with something. Again I thank you, CeCe! Evelyn
Thank you so much, CeCe. I spent about an hour looking at Ancestry's DNA site but just couldn't locate anything about a project done in the past that offered free testing and where the results might be located. This is a tremendous help, as was reading your blog as Joy suggested - wonderful!
Evelyn S. Leslie
Hi Evelyn,
She can view his DNA results even without an active Ancestry.com subscription. She just can't contact his matches. Also Ancestry.com has been offering a free 6 month subscription to "Ancestry Connect" for Beta testers without active subscriptions to be able to contact their matches. She might want to try logging into her account and see if the offer pops up. If not, she can call Ancestry.com support and they will help her.
Joy, thanks for the mention of my blog!
CeCe

Joy, I appreciate the information and also your email in reply to my questions. I have another question for you: a cousin of mine told me this afternoon that her son participated in a free DNA test offering to Ancestry members awhile back, I am guessing when they first got into the DNA testing field. The kit was mailed to her and she said they told her the test results would be located under her initials with surname Sizemore. She is no longer a paying, subscribing member of Ancestry. Is there any way she or any other family member can view his results? I do subscribe to Ancestry and would really like to compare his results to our other two Arthur Sizemore descendants. Thanks, Evelyn
Regarding Ancestry.com’s new autosomal test. This info was recently posted to another site

Be aware that this test is only new to Ancestry, not new as a test. Family Tree DNA has had this test in the form of the Family Finder product for some time now. Also, be aware, that you need to maintain an Ancestry subscription to see any of your autosomal matches.

Joy

Ancestry.com's autosomal testing is still in the beta stage. They will be
inviting their 1 million subscribers to join the project *before* they open
it up to the general public. The present introductory price will most
likely increase when they do go public.

FTDNA's FF price is $289
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Sizemore

23andMe is $299
https://www.23andme.com/

Joy
You will fill out a form to get your name on the list, then ancestry will send out an email to you inviting you to participate in their new beta autosonomal DNA testing that will test all your genetic material from both parents. The link above explains it well. Also, FamilyTreeDNA.com is doing a similar test that costs about $300-500+ although if you have already done testing with them you can probably upgrade your kit and save some cost.

My husband is a descendant of George All Sizemore (Q haplogroup), possibly a descendant of Pocohontas, and grandson of a Dawes Roll 5/8 Cherokee grandmother (which makes him 5/32). His bar graph shows him to be 1% Asian and 99% European. That means that he has numerous other ancestors who were white.

If you have been watching "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr." on PBS, you have seen that each week he presents his guests with a circle graph showing the same information, which he has taken from the bar graph from "23 and Me".

For males the haplogroups are C and Q for Native DNA, for women its A,B,C,D, and X it can sometimes be H when doing testing for Cherokee because of intermixing with Europeans in the early colonial times when doing mtDNA testing. Also, now with the new autosonomal testing that they can do cross the spectrum of your chromosomes not just Y or mitrochondrial but both along a larger portion of your DNA strand for both sexes but both at the same time everyone will be able to find out more about where they fit. And women will be able to determine NA more acurately too. Because this test transcends both genders. That is also why it costs a considerable amount to do. Although, ancestry is doing an invitation only for $99 which I plan to take advantage of when they send me my invite.
Willis Sizemore is "said to be" the son of Rhoda Sizemore, daughter of George All & Agnes Sizemore. Rhoda is "said to be" the mother of four illegitimate sons, all of whom were raised with the surname of Sizemore. There is no paper trail or documentary proof that she was their mother, but the family stories in Kentucky say she was.
We have tested the YDNA (which shows their direct male line)of at least one direct male descendant of each of the four sons. They were Russell (1802-1882), John (c1805-aft 1870), Willis (abt. 1813-bef 1872), and Wilborn (abt 1814-bet 1880-1900).
Russell's descendant's DNA results matched the Begley men, John's descendant's DNA results matched the George All Sizemore men, Willis's descendant's DNA results matched the Begley men, and Wilborn's descendant's DNA results matched the Bowling men. Only John's descendant's DNA results showed the Q haplogroup which indicated Native American ancestry. All this proves that none of these sons of Rhoda had Redbird as a father. There is no way to tell exactly which Begley or Bowling man was the father of any of them.
After these boys were born, Rhoda had five children with Joseph Wilder, two boys and three girls. We tested the YDNA of a direct male descendant of the first boy, Nelson Wilder, and his results matched other Wilder men.
We also tested the mtDNA of a direct female descendant of Rhoda (through her daughter, Polly North). The results of her test matched the results of direct female descendants of George All's daughters, Winnie Begley and Susan Bowling. This proves that Rhoda, Winnie, and Susan were sisters. Their results all showed that their direct female line was European, so their mother, Agnes (Shepherd) Sizemore was NOT a little Indian girl.
These families are still part of the Sizemore extended family, but it is through their mother, Rhoda, instead of through their fathers.

Yes, just go to FamilyTreeDNA.com look up Algonquian East Project or do the Sizemore Surname search below them you will see a list that shows other projects that surname is invovled in Algonquian East is one click on it and there you go. Look at the colorized chart of the results that is where they break down the tribal associations based on the min-max DNA markers met by each kit submitted. The Native American Haplogroups that are associated with Males are C, and Q. For women those haplogroups are A,B,C,D, and X. In the Cherokee line you can sometimes see the haplogroup H due the mixing with Europeans in the early colonial periods to current days. Further information explaining what I found.

I have tried to send you the Sizemore portion of Mary Brewers book but it will not go through. If you would like to send me your snail mail address i will mail the pages to you. There are a lot of mistakes in mary's book . She talked with people then wrote the information in the book. Example Russell Son of Rhoda Sizemore 's son is the grandson of John Rockhouse and Nancy Bowling Sizemore FALSE Russell's son Jackson. (NOT Andrew Jackson) married Sarah SAlly Ann) Couch daughter of Eli and Mahalah Sizemore Couch. Mahalah was the daughter of John Rockhouse. Sarah Sally is the granddaughter of John and Nancy. Russell is the son of Rhoda .father unknown at this time. Rhoda was the daughter of George All and Agness Shephard (Not Cornett)Sizemore . I have stopped putting info on these family sites because all I do is seed a lot of corrections. Then the information does not get changed. However I will send you the information if you want me too.My family line is Rhoda, Russell and Ann, Jackson and Sarah Sally, William and Georgia Ann Sizemore. Then my father. I can trace my Cherokee or native american heritage back to George all through Dna testing. That is far enough for me.My father's family are proud of their native american heritage.Mary says Russell claims to be the son of Red Bird, Information from the Manchester Enterprize. There is no proof of this statement. Mary's husband Clyde gave me permission to copy pages from the book for research and not for profit.

Walter,
I am not up on the DNA testing. How does that work? I am not sure how it puts a Bowling into the mix and removes the Sizemore line. Would love to hear more on this.
Tammy

Michelle, would really appreciate links to the Family Tree DNA projects you are referring to. I would really like to look around. It sounds very interesting. I'm glad FT is doing something with Native American research!
Also, I hope everyone realizes that nobody here was saying we had no Indian blood. What was said was that the AMOUNT of Indian blood, by this generation, is very very small, even infinitesimal, unless there are further intermarriages along the way.
I also did a little research on the Eastern Algonquian language and, prior to European contact, it consisted of at least seventeen languages collectively, from the Canadian Maritime provinces to North Carolina . (Just an interesting tidbit).

Thank you for looking at this and reporting this. You have listed John Floyd Sisemore b. 1822 Georgia d. 1875 Alabama. This man was s/o Richard Sisemore b. 1800 SC d. 1865 AL. This is the line I am related to. This line has been tested DNA and does have the Native American ancestry, though we were not sure of the exact Native American ancestor.
This line used a spelling of Sisemore, but actually the descendants have mainly used Sizemore spelling, though my Uncle's line continues to use Sisemore spelling presently. I knew we were related to Kentucky and North Carolina branches, though I did not understand the exact connections. We knew of the DNA links. The line which I research is from South Carolina, then through Habersham Co, Georgia, then into Dade Co, Georgia and finally settled at Valley Head Springs, De Kalb Co Alabama well before the Civil War. The descendants of Richard Sisemore b. 1800 SC did fill out Eastern Cherokee Applications, however they were not recognized as Native Americans.
I would like to kept in contact with others who are researching this, and thanks Michelle for this info. Can we all continue to discuss this and share further? Best regards,
Lilly Martin
