am looking for a Sarah Skelton, daughter of Martha Wayles and Bathurst Skelton, born on February 7, 1751 in Augusta County, VA and died in Davidson County, TN on Novermber 30, 1832. She was married to my ggggg-grandfather, Francis Hardgrave. I am trying to find out information on her ancestors - I have all of her descendants through my Hardgrave line. Any connections?

i too am kin to francis hargrave..down the davis side..i too see sarah skelton, but all i find is that martha and bathurst had a son that died young. however i found that when martha and bathurst married, he was a widower and that he had several children. i am thinking that sarah is his daughter from that marriage..but i cant find anything to that effect.. also, did you know that after bathurst died, martha wayles skelton married thomas jefferson, and lived at monticello. fascinating

I really can't say at this point. Most of the family moved to Alabama, and he might have gone there, too. I assume you'v e checked the census records, or what there is of them. Another thing is not only the federal census, but some states had spevial cnesuses you might check. I'll keep looking, though, becuase I have heard of Cynthia and Middleton Fain in my research.

John I noticed an old posting of yours re: Jeremiah Bobo Skelton. I am related to his Daughter Syntha Skelton Fain who married Middleton Fain in Sept 27, 1831 in Georgia. Do you have any information that may indicate where Jeremiah Bobo Skelton may have been living in 1830? I can't find anything.

thanks Allan Fain Kingsport TN

hello, i have recently been doing a little research and my great grandfather was named James Skelton Fleming. He was born in Cumberland, the English Lake District. His father was John Fleming, who worked on the construction of the Silent Valley reservoir in Northern Ireland and died just as he was about to take up his post as manager of the Manx Northern Railway on the Isle of Man. I was looking to see if I could find any reason for the odd middle name Skelton when I came across your message board. John Fleming was married to an Elizabeth Henderson in Edinburgh. I don't know where he was from originally but suspect that as a contractor he went where the work was. I wonder is there a link?best wishes Dianne.

Re: Thomas W. Skelton-Skelton history

My name is Chris Skelton, weird, sometimes when I click
so obvious, and I was just working on it today. My dad, was
Frank C..(Glen)Skelton;>his dad Frank M,>parents James Franklin & Alice Pope, Solomon, here's where I just found something that thru me. Solomon's Birth Cert. father's name
said Jonathan Skelton, signed by relative-- C.M.King which
is Solomon's dau. but,my neice layed ground out for me, but
I'm finding things that don't fit. I have Dosier & Cynthia
were Soloman parents & Solomon married Mary Jane Moncrief, had Dosier's parents Robert Skelton & Elizabeth Bobo, Dosier died in 1880. There are alot of Pope's in my family, my dad is from Rutherford Tenn. His mother is a Cooper from Gibson Tenn. Seems they span from Tenn, to Miss, this is the 2nd time I've found a skelton with same skelton names, but married to different person. But my grandmother Cooper married to frank m skelton in Tenn. since then she was married 4 times. So maybe that's why so many names. I know alot of my relatives have lots and lots andlots of kids. I just found a person on ancestry here, his name is kbmarcus, but has alot of Skelton info. and pictures. My niece started with a 10 page report on the ancestry she had done which got me started. So it was easier, But just lately like your family has alot of different names buy alot of the same names and dates. I think Wiley, was married to an Aunt Flora Skelton born1897
Was Solomom born 29 Oct. 1832 died 7 Apr 1914 he had a second wife Sarah Williams. I was just reading about a Robert Skelton from the Confederate Army in 1788 he won awards That's what I like to find out what kind of people are from my past. My mothers side are all German, strick, etc. finding more ghosts in there closets, which I think is funny, they're all gone. My name is Chris from skeltoncB I would love to learn more info. and maybe put 2+2 together to equal something right. My email is
chris.10888@yahoo.com Hope to hear from you. Chis
I don't know if you are still looking for information on the Skelton's. If so have you found anything new? Timothy Scanlon and Mary (skelton) are my Great, Great, Great Grandparents. I live in Sheboygan and looked up Mary Scanlon's death certificate, it says that she was born in Waukesha and her mothers name was Barbra Rock who was born somewhere that I could not make out, it looked like Thuneu or Thunea, not sure. But for her fathers place of birth it said Ireland.

Where did you get your information from that Barbra died in Michigan? I am a little confused that her husband would die here and her in Michigan. I am going to be going to the register of deeds again today and I am going to see if I can find anything on Henry. If you are still interested let me know.

My Annie Skelton(great grandmother to me)born Dec 1869 in Brampton is the daughter of Nancy Skelton daughter of Walter & Ann Skelton of Brampton Cumberland. My Annie had my grandfather Richard Skelton born Brampton Cumberland. Annie eventually married John George Simpson. I seem to have a number of Skelton girls who had children with father unknown and then they eventually marry. Sorry that I cannot see a connection between your family and mine.

I have just been researching the Tall family tree as my great grandmother was Harriet Jane Louisa Tall. I have a very old photograph album which belonged to my grandmother Harriet Mabel Roberts and has been passed down the family to me in which there are photographs of Fernleigh Tall (I gather you researched his military history which I found on the Tucker family tree in Australia. I also have photos of his siblings, the Skelton family and various others. I live down near Dartmouth having returned to the family county in 1978 and have been absolutely fascinated with all I have managed to find out.

I have also been researching Robert Skelton for SAR. I found him in a book "Roster of South Carolina Patriots in the American Revoluton" by a Bobby Gilmer Moss. He and Thomas are listed on page 869. She also gives audit account numbers, etc. for each veteran.
I am considering applying for SAR under him since I descended from Robert > Solomon > Dozier > Mary Ann Skelton who Married a Robert Hutchinson Scott and who had a daughter by the name of Nancy E. Scott who married a Tilman Ross (my great grandparents).
If you have any additional information on Robert and his line - particularly through the above descendents I would love to see it. Thanks.
William Ross

This is in part related to something you wrote in the previous post, when you mentioned Jonathan Skelton as being a son of Robert Skelton.

Do you have proof that Jonathan Skelton was the son of Robert and Elizabeth? My reference says that it is only a guess based on when he enlisted with Sampson Skelton in the War of 1812. I have wondered if this guy truly is a brother of Sampson, and therefore a son of Robert.

My reference also gives the line you have for James Skelton with descendants.

I was able to buy the book, "Rogers-Skelton and Allied Families" from the daughter of the author. It wasn't cheap, but it has so much information in it I thought it was worth it. This is the book I am referring to.

Hey, you wouldn't happen to have a family bible from a Luther Skelton, would you? That books quotes a family tree from it, and Luther lived in Nacogdoches, Texas.

John Skelton

SKELTON William J "The Fox" 1922-2011 Dayton, Ohio

SKELTON, William J. "Fox" November 10, 1922, departed this Earth October 1, 2011. Bill is survived by his children, Bill (Sherry), Dick (Alane), Nancy Gerhard (Dan); grandchildren Kevin, Chip, Lauren and Lindsey; preceded in death by his wife Bernie; son Michael.

The Gray Fox was the patriarch of the Skelton family.

Bill was a lifelong Daytonian graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1941.
He served in the South Pacific, WWII.
Bill was an athlete playing semi-professional football and later inducted into the Dayton Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.
After return from the service, Bill worked for the State of Ohio and was responsible for issuing licenses to car dealers. Soon thereafter he was offered a job at the American Automobile Association (AAA) where he worked until his retirement. At AAA he was a Deputy Registrar for the State of Ohio and also managed the Sales and Insurance Divisions at the Ludlow Street office. Bill was a Vice President when he retired.
In addition to his daytime job, Bill and his friend Jim Bray founded and opened the restaurant/bar, Need One More on Needmore Road.
To say the Fox was a people person would be an understatement. He had and abundance of common sense and never judged anyone dependent upon their station in life. He enjoyed the friendships of prince and pauper alike and treated all the same.

Bill was a kind hearted man who always put the needs of others ahead of himself. He never spoke of his accomplishments. His focus was his children and he had a keen ability to teach them right from wrong without being a disciplinarian.
The Silver Fox was a curious and inquisitive man who never quit learning his entire life.
He traveled the world and was especially content to make extended trips to Las Vegas.
He had a particular interest in horse racing and was known to frequent racetracks throughout the country.
Never a big better, he enjoyed the challenge of handicapping. Fox was a winner at life whose friends number too many to mention in this remembrance.
Bill Skelton was a classic American; a one of a kind sweetheart of a man whose memory will always bring a smile to his family and friends.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Bethany Village and Hospice of Dayton who provided excellent care for the one and only Fox.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main St.
Graveside services will be held privately at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of Dayton in William's memory.
On-line condolences for the family may be sent to www.bakerhazelsnider.com.

Published in Dayton Daily News from October 2 to October 4, 2011

Montgomery

I think we may be distant relatives. My father's people are from Toshimingo Ms and Tangipahoa LA. My grandfather was James Franklin Skelton. His mother was Katie Spangler. I found them in the 1930 Census. He had two brothers- Ira and David, and a sister- Katheryn. I have also found a record of a Joe Skelton marrying a Katie Roach in 1911. I have names of other relatives in this circle as well.

Maybe we can help one another out in this quest...
