I found Andrew and family as you said living in Mercer, Loudoun, VA in the 1900 Census. I looked in 1910 and 1920 Census but no luck. I have a Harriet Virginia Jordan, unknown birth place/date as another child, recently added to the file. Don't know source. See http://SkillmansofAmerica.com. Bill Skillman

Looking for Grandmother

Andrew Jordan b: 1870 in Va. married Lucinda Skillman b: 1874 in Loudoun Co Va. I cannot find their dates of death. My grandmother Ruth’s death certificate says that they are her parents. Ruth was born 30 Nov 1900. She always said her last name was Cowan/Cowhand/Callahan. But that’s not the case according to the death cert. Ruth married Sylvester Ramsey and he died in 1961. Ruth died in 1963 in Arlington, Va. when she got hit by a car. I looked for Andrew and Lucinda in the 1910 census but cannot find them. In June of 1900 when the census was taken Andrew and Lucinda have 3 children: Anne, Harry and Mary. After that they all just disappear. Any info on this family would be appreciated. E-mail glo4sythe@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Thanks so much for that info! I had no idea that Annie's name was really Sarah. I have several photos of her and they all just say Annie.
I have no other info on Sherman Skillman. I just have the one photo of them with the names on the back of the photo.

Sherman David Skillman(1874-1908) is in my Skillman file. You can see info on him on the Skillman site http://SkillmansofAmerica.com. His page is http://skillmansofamerica.com/TomsTreePriv/b7350.htm#P7350
His is a 5th great grandson of our immigrant, Thomas, and my 5th cousin, twice removed. He had no children by Annie (Sarah A.) but three by his second wife, Carrie Scofield. Another Sherman David (1898-1972), a first cousin twice removed, lived in Chautauqua, NY. If you have more info on your Sherman, you can contact me at wskillman at aol.com

Annie Watson, Sherman Skillman 1890's Minnesota

I have a photo of Sherman Skillman and his wife Annie, whose maiden name was Watson. The photo is from the 1890's. The portrait studio is listed as being in Appleton and Montevideo, Minnesota. Annie was my great grandmother's sister. I was under the impression that my great grandmother and her family lived in Zumbrota Minnesota, so I am not sure why the photo was taken in a town that google maps says is 200 miles away.
My great grandmother Hattie, and her mother, moved from Minnesota to somewhere near the town of Red Deer in Alberta Canada in 1901, and then to southern California between 1908 - 1910. I don't know if Annie and Sherman also did the same.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did, though. I inherited hundreds of old photos from this line of my family, and there are other photos of other family members who moved from Minnesota to near the town of Ontario California around 1900 - 1910.

So . . anyone recognize the names Annie and Sherman Skillman from Minnesota, circa 1890 - 1900?

Hi, I purchased a funeral card for Nellie (Skillman) Sutherland. She was born abt 1853 in Ohio and died May 15, 1888 in Helena, Nebraska. She married Nathaniel "Nathan" Sutherland (1848-1942) of Iowa in 1877 and they had at least 3 children: Evelyn, Selma, and Gilbert. I am not related and would like to get this to someone who is a relative and is interested!

Catherine, sorry, I don't have pictures, but I have gleaned some more info for you. You apparently are the daughter of Ervin who married Mary L. Skillman in 1957. I already had most info in your post. On the John Stryker cemetery site http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohhamilt/cemlaboyteaux.htm
I find three Skillmans: Alva, John S. and Martin, all children of Isaac and Amelia. Sarah married Daniel Chidester in addition to John Knox. Bill Skillman, 5th cousin. Pls send email to wskillman@aol.com to get on my mailing list and exchange more info.

I am looking for any pictures of Isaac N. Skillman and his wife Amelia (Stryker) Skillman. They moved from Somerset County, New Jersey to Ohio. Isaac was born in 1803 and died in 1840. His wife, Amelia, was born 1807 and died 1892. They had children Josiah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Edwin, Anna, and Mary. Josiah married Lucy A. Calhoun and lived in Marion County, Illinois. Elizabeth married Elon Strong. Sarah married John Knox. Edwin married Mary Wesby and died in 1870. Anna married Theodore Burns and moved to Marion County, Illinois. Mary married Leonard Harris. Isaac was my great great grandfather. Any pictures of this family would be appreciated. The area they came from in Ohio was College Hill. They owned a store there. Amelia's father was John Stryker, and he died in 1840, buried at Laboyteaux Cemetery. I would like to know what these people looked like. Thank you

It has also been reorganized into a number of pages to make it easier to find what you want. New is a Y-DNA project to verify your descendancy from our immigrant ancestor, Thomas. Also, you can now download my entire genealogy file with information on collateral lines - over 22,000 people along with a read only version of the genealogy program, RootsMagic.

The most thorough work done on the Skillman Family in America is by William (Bill) Alfred Skillman of Linthicum Heights, MD. His website is:
http://pws.broadstripe.net/~wskillman/gene.htm
You will find Mary Alice listed as number 1987, but there is no further data on her in this source. Sorry this is not helpful, but you should visit Bill Skillman's website if you have not been there and check out the Privatized Version of Tom's Tree. It is a most valuable source for Skillman data.

Skillman web site updated and moved

For years I have had my Skillman genealogy web site on AOL, but at the end of October AOL pulled the plug on all their hosted web sites. At least they warned us so we had time to find another host. Unfortunately they did not provide a way to forward requests for our web pages. The new URL is http://pws.broadstripe.net/~wskillman/gene.htm. The online and downloadable files were updated last February. Please note that the online pages do not have information on living people other than their name. Neither does the privatized downloadable Tom's tree. The unprivatized, or full downloadable file has data on living people, but requires a password to open. If you need a password, send me a message stating your interest in Skillman genealogy. I am still on AOL at wskillman@aol.com. I do send out messages about updates or other items of interest sporadically. These are sent from wskillman@cablespeed.com which is more forgiving of a large number of addressees than AOL. (AOL decides you are a SPAMMER and blocks further outgoing e-mail until you grovel adequately!)
Hello and a belated thanks for the response. For whatever reason, I don't think I was notified of your message. I just this instant stumbled upon it. Yes, I have visited your site a few times and found it quite interesting and helpful. I had learned more about Anna Catharine Skillman since my original post, including her second marriage to her widowed brother-in-law William T. Bachelor. Unfortunately, I still can't seem to find anything other than a name for Boulton Harrison Parsons though. He must have died very early on.

Sandy,
You can frequently find addresses and phone numbers from web sites. I've been using ZabaSearch.com lately. It comes up with Hanlon at 2125 Springwood, Carrollton, TX 75006, 972-417-0828 and Lyndon at 3212 Breeze Ter., Austin, TX 78722, 512-469-7495. Sometimes these are old addresses, so you may have to try another address/phone if more are listed.
Bill

Sorry, my last reply was a BLANK! I found Mahala Voorhees ,54, living with Debertha(sp?) A. Voorhees,25, Emma V., 23, William, 22, and Wm. C. Davis, 6, in the 1860 Census for Princeton, Mercer, NJ. I the 1870 Census, same place, Mahala was living with William Voorhees, 16, so I am assuming she adopted him in the meantime. Also living with her was 4 members of the Spring family. I couldn't find Mahala in the 1880 Census anywhere in NJ.

Bill Skillman wskillman(at)aol.com

I found Wm. C. Davis, 6, in the 1860 Census of Princeton, Mercer, NJ, living with Mahala Voorhees. In the 1870 Census Mahala was living with 16 year old William Voorhees. I couldn't find either one in the 1880 Census. (I used Heritage Quest for the Census, couldn't find her in Ancestry.com census) So, all we can say is that she apparently adopted William, probably an orphan.
Mahala's age in 1960 was 54 and in 1970 was 69, the latter agrees with the birth date I have for her: 8 Aug 1801.

Bill Skillman, Skillman genealogist
http://members.aol.com/wskillman/gene.htm

Husband of Anna Catherine Skillman Parsons of Ohio?

I need information about the marriage of Anna Catherine Skillman to a Mr. Parsons in Butler Co., OH in 1838. The Record of Marriage says his name was Boulton H. Parsons. They had only one daughter that am aware of, Druscilla Parsons Llewellyn. On her Certificate of Death, it looks like her father's name was Harrison Parsons, but the writing is BAD. Anna Catherine was a daughter of Theodore Skillman and Catherine Albright. It looks as though Mr. Parsons was dead or otherwise out of the picture by 1870. Can anyone further enlighten me about this couple?

Bob, and also Patricia Kurtz (7/11/03)

All Bushrod Skillmans that I know about are descendants of Abraham(1968-1862) and Violinda Simpson. Three of their boys were James L.(1806-?), John (1800-?) and Bushrod Washington (1820-1862).

James and Eliz. Carter had Bushrod (1859-1935)

John and Lucinda Swartz had 3 boys (of interest here) Bushrod Washington(1834-1900) who married Lula Lee, Charles Robert (1841-1916) who also married Lula Lee after Bushrod died and David F.(1843-?) who married Eliz. D. Skillman, the dau. of the first Bushrod W. above, son of Abraham and Violinda.

David and Elizabeth had Lula Bushrod Skillman(c. 1847-?), Patricia's great grandmother.

All the above and more appears on my website at http://members.aol.com/wskillman/gene.htm

It's been a struggle sorting out the several Bushrods! If you have further information or corrections, let me know.

Bob, how about sending me your line from Thomas so I can put you in my database? You may be there already, but I have a lot of Roberts!

Bill Skillman, wskillman@aol.com
