I have a Elizabeth Slate, however I don’t think she is the one you are looking for. She was born 1843 in Henry County Tennessee. Note Henry County is just west of Summer County. My Elizabeth Slate was the daughter of John A.
From the Sumner Co., TN historical page, I have this information about my ggggrandparents, James and Elizabeth Scott.

James Scott born ca. 1815/17 TN. Robert F. born abt. 1847 TN. Washington T. born April 1850 TN. Coleman born abt. 1851 TN. Lucinda born abt. 1854 TN.
I don't know if this will help. But I have an Esther Slaight/Slate married to William A. Nason.

On their son Charles' marriage record it says her maiden name was Badgley. It's the only place I see it. Esther was born circa 1846 in New York, died on 23 Nov 1889 in Plainfield, Kent, Michigan, and was buried in Plainfield Cemetery, Rockford, Kent County, MI.
Hello,

Do you happen to know what part of Texas they were in? It will help to determine which family branch/line they are from.. There are lines in NE and North Central Texas in that time that I know of. The ones in NE Texas are my direct line and the ones in North Central are an allied line to my direct line.

Thanks,
Drew Slate
Fort Worth, Tx

Patricia,

I inadvertently deleted your message from my INBOX--don't know how I did that---so am replying through this message board.

Uncle Goob (Alma William) is the 5th of 13 children of Marion
and Delona (Lonie) Slate. He was born 19 Nov 1902 I think on a farm near Bradley, Grady County OK. He moved to California after Granddad Marion died in 1950 living near Uncle Ernest(they were the two oldest surviving boys in the family). He died in Tuolumne, CA in 1988. He was a good and gentle man.

There is an Alma Allen Slate (1891-1985) buried in the Westhill Cemetery, Grayson Co. TX. With the comparatively
unusual name and the fact that G-Grandfather Wade lived in Grayson Co for 15 or 20 years there seems to be a likely connection, but that's only supposition.

I note that your father,Cecil and my dad, C.L. attended the New Hope school east of Wynnewood together in 1923-24. Mr Cecil was 12 and Dad was 9, they must have known each other well. When I think of the missed opportunities to clear up so many of these ancestry questions----Ah Well--.

Have a good day and if you learn anything about G-Gfather
Wade's family, I sure would appreciate your sharing it with me.

Leale Slate
Peggy I just got back form a get together with my Slate Line that is not the same as the Samuel Slate line.

I believe that the John Slate's you mentioned are in my line and not yours. Now we can't say for sure, but I have a friend who is really good at research and we have pretty much linked these 2 men to my family which includes Williams, Roberts and Edwards and these name are not in Samuel's line.

These are good questions though, and sharing our info might even connect us together. It seems that there were lots of John's in the area and not many records to back them up.

LEt's stay in touch. I am so swamped at school right now, I don't have a lot of time to go into this now. Stay tuned and we'll get in touch again.

Where do you live?

I have an old piece of sheet music, "Kerry Dance" that was "Presented to every purchaser of $1.00 worth or more by F. C. Slate, Dealer in Dry and Fancy Goods, Oil Cloths and Carpets, No. 10 Main Street, Wallingford, Conn." There is no date on the piece. The back cover reads as follows: "F. C. Every one will find it to their interest to visit us before purchasing elsewhere. Best Quality of Goods at Bottom Prices. F. C. Slate, 10 Main Street, Walllingford, Conn." Does anyone have any information on who this F. C. Slate might be?

Re: Isham SLATE of this SLATE Family in/of Stokes/Stokes

Hi, will post to the very old query.

You write of Isham Slate:

"Isham Slate(b. about 1781), Samual's son, was recorded to have imported slaves in that area around 1814. He had 8 children two of which were in the civil war from 1861-1863. They were known as "the Stokes boys"."

I would like to add a bit of info. Isham Slate married first Sarah Sally Overby and second Mary Chandler. This Mary Chandler was a single woman, the daughter of a Robert Chandler. She was not Mary nee Harris Chandler, widow of William Chandler.

The above info was printed in book "Heritage of Stokes County, North Carolina" (vol.1, 1981; vol.2 1990) and is erroneous. Someone did faulty research. And now because this error appears in print it is taken for fact. It is incorrect.
I've just started research on a branch of the SLate's that seem to be lost in time, that perhaps descended from Francis Frank Slate.

Upon entering his name, and his parents name I also came up with the parents of Samuel Slate
Father John 6-7-1715- no death date yet
Mother- Mary LNU 1736-1817.

YOu probably have this by now, but wanted to jump in on the search. Just started this weekend.

Becky

My Aunt Susan McElwee was married to Lane Slate. I believe he is from MA. They had two son's, Lane, Jr. (died years ago in NY) and Webster (now living in AZ) They lived in NY for a long time before moving to California. Uncle Lane and Aunt Susan passed several years back. Aunt Susan died in CA in 1977 and I was told Uncle Lane died in AZ. I believe I was also told that my Aunt Susan was sent for burial in MA. She died first. I have no idea where Uncle Lane is buried, I would think MA. My Uncle Lane use to write, direct ect... movies and tv show's. Anyway, I am just trying to find out where Lane and Susan Slate are buried. I would also like to do a little genealogy on Lane's side to give to Webster. Anyway, I appreciate any help that you can give me. My email address is:
r_pine@live.com
Thanks!
