I am also a descendant of Jefferson Slover via Elizabeth Webb who would be my 2nd-great aunt, the sister of my 2nd-great-grandfather. I am very interested in finding out more about the Slover family. Something I read awhile ago mentioned that Jefferson and his family lived in Logan co. KY near a town where Elizabeth's parents, William Webb and Jennet Campbell, were married in 1809. It was known to be a Shaker town. Apparently, Jefferson broke away from this group but his parents remained part of the congregation.

Karl Slover,age.93. born Karl Kosiczky in what is now the Czech Republic

Enlarged Photo DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) — Karl Slover, one of the last surviving actors who played Munchkins in the 1939 classic film, "The Wizard of Oz," has died. He was 93.

The 4-foot-5 Slover died of cardiopulmonary arrest Tuesday afternoon in a central Georgia hospital.
Slover was best known for playing the lead trumpeter in the Munchkins' band but also had roles as a townsman and soldier in the film, said John Fricke, author of "100 Years of Oz" and five other books on the movie and its star, Judy Garland. Slover was one of the tiniest male Munchkins in the movie.
Long after Slover retired, he continued to appear around the country at festivals and events related to the movie. He was one of seven Munchkins at the 2007 unveiling of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame dedicated to the little people in the movie. Only three remain of the 124 diminutive actors who played the beloved Munchkins.

Slover was born Karl Kosiczky in what is now the Czech Republic and he was the only child in his family to be dwarf sized.

I'm looking for anyone with information on when or where he died, where he might be buried and anything else that might help me to find out more about him.

My Margaret Brown Slover's older sister, Clara Ellen (Brown) Nirich, is buried in Gilroy at the Gavilan Hills Cemetery, in a plot that includes people named Halward and Mason, according to the grave marker. Their mother was Margaret "Maggie" Jackson Brown, and their father was Frank Lockwood Brown. (There were also two sons, Edward Allen Brown, and Roy Frank Brown. Any record for Edward after his WWOne Draft Reg. card in 1918 has not been found to date, but Roy, a barber, married Elsie Hunter in Riverside County CA in 1929, had a daughter named Betty Lou Brown in 1930, and he died in Hemet CA in 1946.) I suspect that Margaret is close by somewhere, as well. One of this earlier-generation "Maggie's" sisters was the eldest, Ellen ("Nellie") Jackson, who married into the Duvall family in SFo, and her daughter Luella married into the Lapachet family in SFo in 1920. The youngest sister, Julia, was married to John Eckhoff and they also lived in San Francisco. They have living descendants named Meyers.

I know I am a direct descendant of Issac Slover who ended up in Colton Ca. Thru geneology, my sister in law says all the slovers are connected in some way. My parents met in San francisco.

So I guess there's no family connection between us...only that mutual connection to Gilroy CA some years ago. My Margaret Brown was born in Illinois as a Jackson, and grew up in Michigan in the 1880's. Her husband, Brown, was born in Iowa and after their MI marriage, they moved to Sonoma County, California.
I've been trying to locate any of their living descendants (if there are any) without much success to date.

Tell me nore about your mother. "My" Margaret Irene Brown, one of four children, was born on March 14, 1897 in Sonoma County CA to Frank A. Lockwood Brown and Margaret Agnes Jackson, who had married back in Michigan in about 1890. Margaret Agnes, a/k/a "Maggie", was my great aunt. Daughter Margaret Irene married a Slover. She died in Gilroy on December 2, 1982. Could her husband have been been the Isaac Slover you mention? Could she have been the same person as your mother? If so, we are 1st Cousins 2x Removed.
RSVP, please...

slover Family Maryland

Greetings. My husband's grandmother was Emma C Slover with sisters Helen and Ida. Their father James Edwin Slover who was a sea captain and whose father was in the Civil War as a "Pilot" on the Monitor per State of Maryland records. He has a detailed binder of Slover links data from the New Amsterdam period. For the Slover's in Maryland they have marriage links to the Hopkins Family (Maryland and host of others in Md and outside). This side of his family has a lot of information but he has only just started to do more research as he has concentrated on his mother's side in particular (all Irish) and his father's tending to be Irish with exception being his father's mother aka Emma C Slover.

I'm sure by now that you've gotten an answer to this but I'm going to post what little info I have for others to see.

I found Calla D Slover living with her sister Jessie Lee Ibbotson in Somerton, Yuma County, AZ in 1920. Calla D was 14 and born in OR.

I found Callie Slover age 4 b OR, living with her widowed father, James Slover, in Parma, Canyon County, ID in 1910 along with sister Jessie and another sister Ethel.

In 1900 Roswell, Canyon County, ID, James Slover was married to Caledonia and had the 2 children Ethel and Jessie.

By backtracking I'm pretty sure that James Slover - b Dec 1869 TX is the father and Caledonia b Mar 1874 TX is the mother of Calla D.
James Slover is the son of Wesley Calvin Slover and Lydia Skaggs.
I haven't found the parents of Caledonia yet.

I have a new theory...............

I am that descendant of Jefferson Slover of Warrick Co., IN. I know quite a bit more now and I have some assumptions.

My main theory, to be proven, or not - is that Jefferson was perhaps the son of James Slover and his wife Elizabeth that lived in Vanderburgh Co, IN and who was the son of the famous John Slover and Nellie. This would be the James that cared for his brother, Isaac's, twin sons for a time.

Someone just wrote to me and told me that Jefferson Slover married Elizabeth/Eliza Webb in Vanderburgh Co., IN. I believe that she was possibly married before to Miles B. Hargrave - and he died abt. 1842. Elizabeth and Jefferson had three children all born after 1845. In 1850 there were four more girls living with them (Margaret, Theodoria, Lucinda and Vina/Nina - all born much earlier and not claimed as Jefferson's children in his probate record. I have wondered if these could be Jefferson's sisters.
The 1830 Census shows James wife, Elizabeth, with a male under five, and four daughters. - living in Vanderburgh Co., IN.

Something happened between 1850 and 1860 Census, as in 1860 Jefferson Slover has a new wife - Martha Gibson Spillman - a divorcee. She brings her two children to the marriage - West Union Spillman and Rhoda Spillman. Then she and Jefferson have two sons, Arelious and Marcus Slover. Martha may have died in child birth because by 1862 Jefferson migrates to Washington Co., KS with all the children - all but those four oldest girls listed in the 1850 Census. And all of these children he brings to Kansas are listed in his probate record. Jefferson dies in 1866.

So I have filled in many holes, but have not been able to take Jefferson back yet. I only have my theory. And my Gr. Gr. Grandmother, daughter of Jefferson, and named Pamelia Caroline Slover - I'm now thinking her name must have been Permelia because the name Permelia is such a familiar name in Elizabeth/Eliza Webb's family history. Her father was Wm. Webb - a Methodist Minister. And
he and his wife, Jannet Campbell were married in Logan Co., KY - which I find interesting.

So I welcome any thoughts on my theory - anything that
would prove it or disprove it............appreciate
any tips.
Do you have any information on Levi Slover, father of
Emma, Walter and Harvey Slover? I am trying to figure
out where Levi lived when he first came to Kansas with his
father. After his father passed away Levi lived with his
sister in Haddam for a while. I am willing to share what
information I have with distant cousins. And hoping to gather more information as I go. Thanks for reading this.
Penny
ps - Levi was brother to my gr. gr. grandmother.
Clarissa Withrow - a Slover or a Clark?

I have a new problem for an old puzzle. My Withrow family has always said that Richard Withrow married a Clarissa Clark: http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/chatmondieu/index.html

Richard Withrow (Son of James Withrow & Elizabeth McGee)
b. 1802 Kentucky
d. 1868 War Eagle, Madison Co., Arkansas
m. 1822 Clarissa Clark (Dau. of Stewart and Betsy English Clark)
b. 1802 Tennessee
d. 1861 War Eagle, Arkansas

Last night a kind lady contacted me and told me about the Slover family and the idea of Clarissa Slover marrying Richard Withrow. Can anyone help document this one way or another?

Another thing. My grandmother said there was Indian blood also, and indicated it was through Clarissa. I've never been able to prove anything about that. It does tie in nicely with your Slover story though.

I am looking for relatives of Edgar Slover born Dec. 16, 1889 and died December 9, 1927. I found an old report card of his in a box of stuff that I got from an Estate Sale. I would love to be able to give it to a family member. Please contact me.

Margaret
mlong1210@aol.com
