Smee Family of St Helen's Lancashire

I have a problem with tracing some members of this family, any help would be appreciated.

Edmund (aka Edward) SMEE was born c1859 in Ireland, and married Sabina SWIFT in St Helens in 1879, in Sep 1880 they had a son James. but I am having a problem with James as I thought he married Mary Alice MCCABE of Wigan in 1905. This was reinforced by the presence of a daughter Sabina SMEE in the 1911 census.

Edmund the Father died in 1896, and I cannot find Sabina in the 1901 census although she died in 1906?

BUT British Army records indicate that James SMEE the son of Sabina had Brothers called Michael and John ???

And crucially the army record indicates that James the son of Sabina was in South Africa from December 1902 until January 1907!

Thank you for reply.
I am interesred to know if you have George's date of birth all I have is his christening date of 2nd November 1794. Also do you know why the name Fuller was included as a christian name for so long. My grandmother refused too include in her son's christian names and was berated by some of her husband' family for not doing so.

I'm not 100% sure her name was Victoria, but I feel pretty good about it. I've never asked about her being named after someone; that is something to try. Why is there little to no evidence out there when I have plenty of information that worked for other family members?

I am having the hardest time locating any information about the Smee side of my family from mid-1800s to present. My grandmother is Laverne Smee, her father was Stephen Smee married to Anna, and his father was Peter Smee married briefly to Victoria. I don't have much information beyond that, so the search has been close to impossible. Thanks!

Mae Dean Smee , born ,North Little Rock, Ark.daughter of,Paul Ernest Pyle and Clarice Catherine Walker

Mae Dean Smee
Mt. Lebanon

Mae Dean Smee .
died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2010,
at the Pines of Mt. Lebanon,
her assisted-living residence of the past two and one half years. She was born May 6, 1921, in North Little Rock, Ark., to Paul Ernest Pyle (1899 to 1978) and Clarice Catherine Walker (1903 to 1980). Her paternal grandparents were Napolean Bonaparte Pyle and Lucy Mae Hargrove; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Howell Walker and Julia Dean Robertson Walker Chambers. She was a child from a solid household of only modest means raised during the Great Depression, which certainly contributed to shaping her fine character. She received an English degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas), and there met her future husband, Doyle Francis Smee (1920 to 1987).
She taught English for a brief time, but then married in 1944 and began a migration with her husband linked to his World War II military service, his completing an interrupted undergraduate education in NYC, and his subsequent employment in Cleveland, Philadelphia and, by 1957, Pittsburgh. Dean Smee was a downright nice person, wife, mother and grandmother. She was smart, quiet, friendly, unpretentious, careful in all matters and thoughtful of others. She made some beautiful quilts that will be appreciated by her grandchildren, was adept at working crossword puzzles and was an accomplished tole (folk tin-ware) painter. Dean is survived by son, James Doyle Smee (and Elizabeth Jones) of Mt. Lebanon, and their children, Jeffrey, Gregory, Benjamin, Daniel, Peter and Martha; and by son, Robert Alan Smee (and Eileen Lindquist) of Highland Park.
She is also survived by the children of her son, Paul Edward Smee (1945 to 2006), namely David Paul Smee, of San Francisco, and Kristen Smee, of Ireland, who has Dean's only great-grandchild. Dean's lone sibling, Paul Pyle Jr., lives in North Little Rock.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church, 900 Country Club Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15228. Interment will be private, with her husband at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Arrangements by LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church.

United Presbyterian Church."

Smees Families in Staffordshire (mostly Potters and allied trades) who seem to have come from Derbyshire in the 1820's.

There is a John Smees who married Mary Fellows in Wolverhampton Staffs in 1741.

Pete,
I can't say positively for sure that a fathers name would or would not be on the death certificate, but usually if it is not stated in the index then it more than likely would not be on the certificate.
Who ever gave the details for the death may not have known parents names of the deceased, I asume it is the same as your British certificates.

Which begs me to ask, I have never ordered any British BDM certificates, I wonder if you would be able to fill me in on what sort of information is usually supplied on certificates from the 1800's.
I am probably in need of ordering some now, and it would be good to know what to expect.

Also you may already know of the NSW BDM website, where you can do a BDM search, you may like to have a look at it yourself, you might find something I missed.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

Regards.
Kate Winks, Australia.
