Looking for: J.L. Sullivan Smith, b. 1887 d. ?, Lived in Florida

I am looking for information about J.L.Sullivan Smith. He was born in 1887. I would like to know when he died, and who his parents were.

He lived around Leesburg, Florida, to the best of my knowledge.

He was married, at least once, maybe more. The wife I know of is one Maryetta Hale. They divorced in 1940, and she went on to marry Eugene Prevatt.

The story line is a little crazy, so I'm having a hard time figuring out just how many kids they had, and who they were. There is, for sure: a Victoria Smith (possibly Blanch Victoria, or Blanch as another child. I cannot find anything on Victoria) and a Hazel Leona Smith. Hazel married and divorced Arthur Franklin Gray and later married and divorced John Atz.

I am coming across a Robert Lee Smith, but I own letters from a Robert Lee Hilliard who writes to Maryetta as Mama. The earliest letter is 1924. Robert Hilliard married a Pearl V.

Absolutely any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The picture attached is J.L. Sullivan Smith and Maryetta Hale, year unknown.

I am desperately looking for my Grandfather, HAROLD PERRY SMITH. I don't have any info. after his twin girls were born. He was born in Denver, Colorado, Nov. 14,1897. His Father is Wallace Burdick Smith, b. 1863, Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Mother is Carrie Augusta Tetters then Mason (Smith) born in Warsaw Indiana, Dec. 9, 1873. He had two brothers Joseph S. Smith and Paul C. Smith. But they did not all live together.
Harold was 12 yr. in school in Victoria, BC in 1911 Canada Census. He married Alfreda Cline Hardy in 1916 in Oakland, CA.
I can't locate marriage documents. Twin girls were born in Jan 1918. There is a census and draft reg. in Oakland 1920, then I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING AFTER 1920. He left his family behind and went ????? We don't know? His mother still lived in Oakland but she and her children did not have much contact that I can find. His dad Wallace was in Seattle and I can't find contact with him either.
I have spent 100s of hours looking for him but have not found one thing after 1920.??? I am new to genealogy so probably missed some things!
.. PLEASE HELP!!
Re: Aaron Smith

Hello KD,

I am the gr granddaughter of Aaron Smith. He was born in Newfoundland in 1964. His third wife was Selina Vaters or Selina Vatour Moulton? (not really sure of her surname and her first name could have been Celina. They had 2 children, Elsie (Maude) and Aaron (Brittle); they both went by their middle names. They moved to the U.S. at a fairly young age.

I have not been able to find out who my grandmother's mother was. She was Grandfather Aaron's second wife and they had two children, Sarah Jane (my grandmother) born in 1998 in Shoal Cove or Black River, Newfoundland, and Elizabeth (Liz) who was about 2 years older. My Nan (Sarah Jane) married my grandfather, Nathan Churchill, and they lived in St. John's, Newfoundland most of their lives.

I've been told that my gr grandmother died when Nan was 2 years old and nobody seems to know her name. Grandfather Aaron Smith had 2 children by his first wife, a son Alexander (Uncle Sandy) lived in Sunnyside, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland most of his life, and I believe the second child was a girl (name unknown). I think his first wife was Elizabeth Gosney of Black River.

KD, I do have more information but this posting is from 2000 so I will wait for a reply and maybe we can email each other. It sounds like we are related somehow so I will be anxiously waiting for your reply.
I am interested in any information about Fannie Beardslee, wife of Perceptor Wood. I am trying to see if there is a connection between her family and Alice D. Beardsley, wife of Burr Gene Wood, who was Perceptor's nephew.

My gg-grandfather was Isaac Beardsley, who is Alice's father. I have been struggling with a dead-end tracing Isaac's family, but I believe there is a strong probability that he and Fannie are closely related.

My great grandfather was Henry A. Smith b. Jan. 25, 1850 in Uniontown, Fayette, PA. He died on Feb. 11, 1932 in Swan Creek, IL. He was the father of my Grandfather Albert Henry Smith. I am just beginning to look for my Smith ancestors and am hoping this is a lead I can have confidence in. I hope to go to Fayette Co, PA this summer and if I learn something helpful, will pass it along.

Sorry, no more information than what is shown below. Would suggest seeing if you can find her birth certificate Mar 24, 1859 in Waterboro, York, Maine, death certificate Dec 8, 1925 Canal Point, Palm Beach, Florida or possibly a newspaper article from 1925 with an obituary. I did an extra search this morning using ancestry's documents but there are so many Smiths that nothing unique to her came up. I live in Arizona so a search in Maine for more Shackford genealogy is still in my future dreams...

1880 - Porter, Oxford, Maine, Stephen Shackford, age 26, laborer, Ada L, age 20, wife, keeping house, Eugene D, age 2, son (1880 census)
1905 - Kennebunk, York, Maine:. My grandmother is Ada Louise Smith and Stephen Frank Shackford's granddaughter. Her name is Irene Lundgren Grotto. We are trying to find out what Indian tribe Ada was descended from. My grandmother's memory is poor, so it is a difficult task. We have pictures of Ada and she looks full blooded American Indian.
Have you any information about Ada?

Thanks,
Anne Rybicki

I'm looking for any information on Thelma Ree Smith Thomas. I'm new to Ancestry.com and am having a great deal of trouble with this particular search. She was born 12/23/10 in Sweetwater, Texas; died in Harris County, Texas on 06/01/31. I also believe she had a brother named Hascue Smith, born approx. 1908-1909 and possibily another brother named Oliver (Ollie?), year of birth unknown but would have been older than Hascue. I am attempting to find their parents' names, and would appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thanks.

You might try middle names. It seems people go by there middle names. Several People in my family go by there middle name. I found my grandmothers family except one person. I kept seeing my grandmother siblings but not her sister. And some female's name kept apearing with with my great uncles. Come to find out My aunt went by a different name and her first name was her middle intial. You might be connecting to the right people but they are going by there middle name or a nickname. There is another possibilty too that the Wells family took in a child. Years ago people took in children that no one wanted and there is no record of it. My great grandmother was one of those children. There was a turning wheel and they put there babies on it and spun the wheel and then people got the babies that no one wanted. Good luck on your research I hope this helps.

My mother found a bunch of old photos and a genealogy book at the dump and I'm trying to find out more about the people contained in them. One of the photos is labeled "Dorothea Egleston Smith" and there is a graduation pamphlet for Radcliffe College in 1913 with her name listed in it under summa cum laude. I've done a little research on her, but only found a couple of things. The genealogy book is for the "Lears of Virginia." If anyone could give me any information on these people, it would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!

Searching for H.T. Smith who was born in 1940 and who served in the USMC (United States Marine Corps) in Okinawa in 1959-1960. I am working on a reunion for my boss and H.T. Smith was on the official roster we obtained from the USMC HQ. I've gotten in touch with 114 Marines already, but this one is difficult to locate because of the common last name and only the initials appear on the roster. So, I thought I would give the message boards a try. Thanks in advance for any info you are able to provide.

Hi Christine, I was very interested to get your email regarding the Smiths of Mitcham. When did your grandparents live in Lewis Road. My husband's family lived at l6 Lewis Cottages, Lewis Road in 1914. His name was Henry Smith and wife Ada. Searching for the Smiths has been the bane of my life as they didn't know how old they were always and they did not always know where they were born. In 1881 Henry lived with is father John Smith in Half Acre Row, Mitcham, in 1891 18 Berlkey Road, Wimbledon, 1901 107 Selkirk Road, Streatham. In 1911 John Smith (Henry's father) lived in 1 Wooden Cottages, Bond Road Mitcham and Henry (the son) lived at 8 Keens Terrace Church Road Mitcham. If any of this rings any bells at all with you could you contact me on rs485@btopenworld.com as it would be easier to communicate with each other. By the way John Smith was a Scissor Grinder and Tinker as was his fath3r George. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards Katrina

Anybody out there still researching this family? I'm a little late, the posts are about 10-12 years old. I am still finding a lot of confusion written on "Gabe's" line, from his parents back. Anybody have the real family tree with correct documentation? I go from Gabe>Richard>Alfred>John William>James Alfred(my gr grandfather). Thanks if anybody hears me out there!!!!!

Ernest Smith born Scotland 1913 died London 1941

I am searching for any information about my Grandfather. Ernest Smith died during the Blitz between January and May 1941 in London through enemy action but his body was not found so there is no death certificate etc. He worked for "Bradfield's Builders" of Poplar, London where he was supposed to be a clerk but I understand he moved about on demolition work. He had a sister who was a supervisor in the GPO but I don't know her name. I cannot trace this line of the family back any further without details of his birth etc. He was not married to my Grandmother although she states that they intended to marry before his death. She had to have my father adopted as she was a Telephonist in the RAF and lived in a bedsit where she could not have a child. The only information I have about him comes from my father's adoption records. If anyone recognises him I would be grateful for any information which they may wish to share with me. Many thanks.

Re: George Edward Smith

George Edward Smith is also my great-grandfather. My daughter and I are looking for information on him. Harry Smith was my grandfather so I know about his immediate family and know a bit about Aunt Blanche's family. Didn't you guys end up in California? We lived in Blacksburg for awhile (1961 and 1965) and used to visit Blanche regularly during that time. I think we might have even met! I know nothing about Edward or Mick's family. My knowledge of George Edward is pretty well summarized in the info you left on this site. I didn't know he was originally from Pa; however. We've got a lot of info on the Pannills as I'm sure you do, too.

My father doesn't know too much more than what you have stated. He remembers that Mattie fell sick and Blanche looked after the boys after Mattie died and he remembers visiting some relatives in Orange, VA. I guess Grandaddy didn't talk about them. He did stay in close contact with Blanche.

Good luck in your search. Feel free to contact me thru michael.s.smith52@gmail.com if you like.

Best Regards,
Michael Stuart Smith
Suwanee, GA
