I am a newbie looking for family information and find Jan as my first family member mentioned as well. There is lots of sources of information looking at the name spelling Snedeker. I am trying to source The Book of Snedekers. Jan was German and married in the Netherlands. His immigration information is online to New Amsterdam. My line came from Kentucky and settled in Texas in the 19th century. 20th century line is clear, before that, not so much. If you would like to collaborate on shared information, let me know.

Margaret Smock m. John Snedeker 04 Mar 1804

I'm researching the Smock and Snedeker lines in my family and have hit a roadblock. I have a lot of verified information on John Snedeker and his line much farther back. However I can't seem to find the parents of this Margaret Smock. What I do know is that she was born in New Jersey in 1789 (exact date unknown). She was married to John Snedeker on 04 Mar 1804 in Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey. She died 29 August 1854 and is buried in Brainerd Cemetery, Middlesex County, NJ along with John. If anyone has information on this Smock family I would love to hear from you. I am also researching the Conover and many other prominent Dutch families of New Jersey and New York. My email is kerrcoopergenealogy@yahoo.com.

They had three children Mark,Micheal, and Kim. I have a pic. of him on my page if you would like to see what he looks like. If he is the one you are looking for he is in the VA Hospital in St. Louis.
Sorry to respond so slowly to your message.

I have not spent alot of time researching the siblings of the family line. It seems like intermarriage was much more common place in that period of history. But I will certaintly look into this more, and see what I can find out that is a maybe an explanation.

Adele
kswordsmith@msn.com
I have a large part of the Snedeker genealogy. My great grandmother was Mary Porter. She was the daughter of Mary Snedecker and William Porter. Mary Snedekers parents were Garret Snedeker and Elleanor Harris. Garret's parents were Christian Snedeker and Aeltje Van Arsdale. Christian's parents were Gerret Snedeker and Crisstreinea Lequear. Gerret's parents were Jan Snedeker and Hilletje Kronkheyt. Jan's parents were Gerret Janse Snedeker and Willemptje Vooks. Gerret Janses' parents were Jan Snedeker and Annetje Buys who were the original settlers at New Amsterdam. But if you go back to the Gerret who was married to C. Lequear and his son Jacob who married Eleanor Porter you might have the solution to a tie in to my William Porter.

I feel certain that this Elizabeth Skates was the widow of Rynier Skaats (1762-1795). They had two daughters: Mary (b. 1792) and Elsje Schuyler (b. 1794). Depositions related to Elizabeth's will, probated in Jan 1852, indicate that Mary was the wife (and probable widow) of William Renney. Elsje married Francis Burras in 1811,according to City of New York Marriage records. I presume he died, but have no confirmation of that nor of her apparent remarriage to a man named Clark. The deposition of William Burras in this case indicates only that Francis Burras was deceased by 1852.
This Elizabeth was not related to Snedeker, as far as I can tell.
I have copied the line that takes me to my 9th great grandfather, Jan Snedeker. This is the Jan that immigrated in 1639. Have you gained any additional information. My information was recetly updated at rootsweb.
Rebecca

I would greatly appreciate it. I am located in Michigan and really have no way to access the documents from New Jersey or New York. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

obit - Betty SNEDEKER, 1921 Ok. - 2006 Ca.

(not related - for board info only)

Snedeker, Betty

SNEDEKER-Betty Snedeker, long time resident of Pasadena, died after a long struggle with cancer on June 27, 2006. She was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1921, and moved to Los Angeles when she was a girl in 1930. Betty enjoyed a very successful career in real estate. Almost 40 years ago, she joined with Jim Dickson as a salesperson (later, a broker) to help put the Jim Dickson Company on the map as the leading real estate company in the area. She soon "owned" the San Rafael section of Pasadena by representing hundreds of buyers and sellers of homes in the area. She gave fully of her time, energy and expertise in each transaction and many of her clients became good friends and have remained so through her retirement years. Betty will be sorely missed by all those who knew her and loved her. She is survived by her son Frank and two grandchildren, Ashley and Benjamin. A graveside service will be at Valhalla Cemetery, 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood, on Friday, June 30, 2006, at 1:00 p.m.
Published in the Pasadena Star-News on 6/30/2006.
I am looking for people who have ancestors in the Wyckoff - Snediker Family Cemetery (also known as the Lotts Burial Ground) in Queens NY.

About 1785 the Wyckoffs (Jacob S. - Wyckoff who was also a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church.) and the Snedickers each deeded a plot about 80 X 260 feet on the border line of their respective farms in Queens and established a local burying ground.

I am writing today to see if anyone can help me locate/contact the living descendents of the families resting in the cemetery. I am doing this for two reasons.

First, I am editing the pamphlet done by Dorothea and June McGowan in 2000, to update family information, and include a ‘photographic essay’ of the existing stones. I would like to contact the descendents of Jacob as well as the people interred in the cemetery to gather input on their branches of the Wyckoff family. My direct line connection to the cemetery is through the Elderts and Van Wicklens, and my Great (X5) grandparents, Samuel and Catalina (Ditmars) Eldert and Tunis and Mary (Smith) Van Wicklen as well as my Great (X4) grandparents Luke and Phebe (Van Wicklen) Eldert are buried at the site.

Secondly, the cemetery, part of St Matthews since 1962, is in dire need of upkeep. I hope to form a Cemetery Association of the family descendents to try to help St Matthews care for the cemetery.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Allan
Elizabeth Skates b abt 1764, nee Snedeker?

The 1850 census for NYC shows an Elizabeth Skates 86 living in the household of Eliza Clark 58, her 2 sons, and Mary Renne 54. Is it possible that Elizabeth was Elizabeth Snedeker of Dutchess & Queens, daughter of James/Jacobus Snedeker & Jane Welling, widow of Nathaniel Renne of Newtown, Queens, perhaps widow of an unknown Skates or Skaats (pronounced about the same)and mother of Eliza and Mary?
James/Jacobus Snedeker lived in Flatbush, married Jane at Newtown 1765. Soon after he removed to Dutchess Co where he Bap Elizabeth 1766 and other daughters. He lived in Dutchess til 1783-1790; he is on the 1790 census for Newtown, living 2 houses from the father of Nathaniel Renne. The Nathaniel Renne - Elizabeth Snedeker marriage was in 1791 at Newtown. Nathaniel died 1813 after a long illness, leaving his widow and several children, incl. probably Thomas, Jane, James, Julia, Esther, and possibly Samuel, Mary & Eliza.
Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.

Re: Snedeker, Polhemus, Voorhees, Conover, Wycoff et al 1600 NY to NJ

My sister Kathryn, <mmer2000@aol.com> and I would like to try and fill in the blanks of our research on the Conover and Snedeker families that were in Cranbury, Middlesex Co. NJ in the early 1800's. We are trying to find the correct parents and siblings of Ralph R., Samuel S., and William Conover born between 1811 and 1816 in Middlesex Co. ,NJ.

Ralph R. married Ellen/ Elnor Snedeker in 1834 . At that point Ralph R. Conover was living in Newark, Essex Co., NJ and had finished his apprenticeship as a brick and stone mason. Ellen Snedeker was the daughter of John and Margaret Smock Snedeker. Margaret is buried in Cranbury. I have some compiled material that was done by our cousin , Kathryn (Kath) Conover before her death in 2002. She is descended from Ralph and Elnor Snedeker Conover. I am willing to pass this on to you.
