Looking for ancestors of Anderson Russell "Jackson" Snider,
b. abt 1834 in Tennessee. His wife was Frances Williams.
His children were Mary, Sally, George, William, Melvina, Alice, Jacob, Ida, and Josephine. This is not the Anderson Snider, son of John Snider and Sarah, found in the 1850 census in Polk County, Tennessee. I have found both Anderson Sniders in the 1860 census in the same vicinity (McMinn, Monroe, Polk Counties) in Tennessee.

His family believed his name was Jackson Snider because the obit of his son Jacob Russell Snider referred to him by this name. It must have been a nickname.

Our local LDS has a set of 1850 census indexes for Tennessee with all entries indexed (wives and children) and I have been through them in search of my Anderson Snider, to no avail. There is however, a Jackson Snider, son of Thomas and Jamima Snider, Bradley County, Tennessee, that might be the right person. I have looked through the subsequent census indexes for a similar Jackson Snider but have not found a good fit.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

We have found this Anderson Russell Snider in the 1870 Census in Jackson Co., Illinois city of Carbondale. He was married to Francis born in N. C. having these children at the time: George, William, Melvina, Alice, and Jacob. George is my husband's great grandfather. We have a birth certificate of one of George's children saying George was born in Henry Co. Tenn. Anderson died Oct. 28, 1896 and is buried in Blairsville Cemetery along with William, Jacob, and Alice Howell

An item of interest: I have an Anderson Russell b. abt. 1939, son of William Russell of Greene Co., Tennessee. William and at least one of his brothers married Sniders. I'm sure this isn't your Anderson, but is it an odd coincidence or possible family connection?

Apparently I am a decendant of William A Snider, who was a son to Russell and Francis Snider. My great grandfather was Clyde Snider who is suppose to be a son of William and Molly Snider. I cannot locate Mollie though.
