Bea, I hope you are keeping well. Haven't corresponded with you for a while, but I have new information about the family of George CAIRNS and Adelaide Amanda SNIDER. I would very much like to send this information to you.

Also, if anyone else is interested in this family, it would be very welcome. George CAIRNS was the son of Andrew CAIRNS (son of Thomas and Mary Cairns of Upper Canada / Ontario) and Lydia SAWYER.

Greetings,
Astrid

I realize that this is quite an old post, but if you're still looking for info, I definitely can help :-) Morris Snider was my mother's brother - her name is Anna Snider Boggs....here's the lineage that I've found so far:

James Snider (died 1865), married Elizabeth Mott, March 15, 1842; father to Arbizene (I've seen it also spelled Arbosene), Orange & William Snider
Arbosene Snider married Angeline Lindsey (not sure of the date); they were Clifford Snider's parents
Clifford Snider married Lillie May Pickelheimer (this was not her maiden name, she'd been married before Clifford...her maiden name was Nelson and her parents were James Nelson & Ida Sills). Clifford & Lillie May married on (or around) May 14, 1904. Here is a list of their children: Arnold C. Snider, Paul A. Snider, Rachel Rorick, Morris Snider, Nellie L. Wipper, Dorothy Clifton, Florence Brill, Anna Boggs, Ruth Kelly, & William Snider.
I have copies of James Snider's will; Lillie May's will; death certs for Arbosene & Angeline among other docs and will be glad to share.....

In going through pictures belonging to my husband's mother we found one of a beautifully dressed young lady. The name on the picture is Effie Snider also "age 21".

Apparently Effie wants to be found. Today we visited a cemetery looking for his g grandmother Delphinia Smith Cole's headstone. In Barks Chapel Cemetery near Whitewater MO.

We didn't find Delphenia's headstone. But we did find Effie Snider's stone!!!! It had this info Effie Snider June 18 1853 August 8 1975.

I am sure Effie is somehow related to my husband, perhaps related to Delphinia Smith Cole. Any help will be appreciated and in return I can send a picture of Effie and her headstone.

thanks
Sandra F

The will should arrive sometime this comming week. The will may have been written in German. If it has I will translate it. Here's hoping we solve the mystery. I sent away for conrad Snyder will and no link found to Isabella and Children. contact me rmathews1@twcny.rr.com

Regina;
I believe I corresponded with you before. I to, beyond the 1850 census, showing our Mahala Snyder Cochran in her mother's household, have never been able to prove relationships to any Snyder family. I do believe that we may be descended from a Conrad Snyder who was a early settler in the White twp. area of Indiana Co., Pa. I think that if Isabella, had no family in the area it would make sense for them to relocate, where her dead husband's family was living in Indiana Co., Pa.
Patrick Collar
I liked the name Mahala so much that I named my daughter after our ancestor, Mahala (Snyder) Cochran 1836-1895. I even have a photo of Mahala and myself at her name sakes grave.
Now that you have brought this thread back to life, I would like to correct a date that I made three years ago Namely - Jacob Snider died about 1813 and in about 1816 or so, his widow Susannah and their grown children moved to Alabama.

I do believe that Jacob Snider died in 1813 but the wagon train with the Snider folks and the rest of the folks including the Oswalt, Shultz, Kyzer, Stagner, Carnley and others, left from Lexington South Carolina to Tuscaloosa Alabama probably late 1819 or 1820.

The reason for this is the flury of Snider land deals in 1814 and again in 1817.

Series Number: S213192 Volume: 0043 Page: 00439 Item: 02 Date: 1813/11/08
Description: Hallman, Jacob, Plat For 672 Acres On Long Branch, Lexington District, Surveyed By John Harsey.
Names Indexed: Hallman, Jacob/Harsey, John/Weaver, George/Snider, Susanna/
Locations: Long Branch/Twelve Mile Creek/Congaree River/Lexington District

The plat description above for Jacob Hallman (Susannah was a neighbor) does not show Jacob Snider. He is now probably deceased and Susannah is now listed as the owner of the property next to Jacob Hallman and George Weaver.

John Snider & Abraham Sandford & Nicholas See, George Snider, William Sanford, Susannah & Sophia Snider to Mathias Snider - Deed- for $2000 - 140 Rocky Creek Waters of Saluda River - 27th Jun 1814 - recorded 16th Aug 1814 page 7

There were also land transfers in 1817

Susannah Snider to William Dent -$500 - 700 acres on branchs of Rocky Creek 26 Feby 1817 24th Dec 1817

Mathias Snider to John Snider - Deed - for $200 - 140 acres on waters B Saluda = dated 12 Nov 1817 - recorded 21st Nov 1817 page 7

In addition, there are Peggy Snider-Seay's divorce papers filed in Tuscaloosa in 1824 which indicated that she and Nicholas Seay were living in Lexington SC in 1818.

I am interested in the impact of the Civil War on the sons and daughters and grandchildren of Jacob Snider of Lewis, Gilmer Counties of West Virginia. Any confirmed record of service, on either side, or stories relating to the families Civil War experience will be greatly appreciated.

Phil Morse
p.morse@sbcglobal.net

Hello Pat... I don't have anything on Emma... I had her date of death estimated btw 1907-1910 but that was it. I would make a good bet that Louina's family might have been one that helped care for them.

If you are interested in my Snider file (at least what I have thus far), let me know and I will send it out to ya... It is about 195 pages... I still need to add a few more things but am sidetracked on another line right now... Anyway, let me know if you are interested and I can send it right out :)

Juls

Dear Juls, This is all so interesting, and since I just started with ancestry.com it is taking me a while to find my way around. John Warren would have been my great grandfather, My grandfather was James Arthur, and my father was Eli Joseph, oldest son of James. James married Emma Jo Webb and as of now I have found nothing about her. James came to Nebraska and Emma Jo died in child birth in 1908 leaving 5 small children the oldest being my Dad age 8.
From what I have heard over the years, after the death of the Mother, A man and woman came to live with them by the name of Nichols, they called them just Uncle and Aunt, now I think they were maybe relates to Louina Jane(John's wife)
Perhaps you know these things. Keeep in touch.
Pat
Hello Pat. My husband's 3rd great grandmother was Susan Snider Piggott. She was a sister to John Warren Snider and they were children of Abraham Snider and Elizabeth Craig. They settled in Dow, Jersey County, IL before moving to different areas. I am about 3/4 of a mile from the cemetery where Abraham, Elizabeth, Sarah Catherine (the daughter who died at age 18), Hannah Snider Piggott and her husband, George Piggott.

The Piggotts intertwine in the Sniders. Susan Snider Piggott was the 2nd wife of James Appollas Piggott. James had children from his previous marriage, one being George Marion Piggott. Hannah Snider (the 4th child of Abraham) married George Piggott. So Susan's step son, George, was also her brother-in-law.

Let me know if you need any more information....

Juls

Hey, Juls -- been being pulled in too many directions lately - one of which is building my ex's tree for my kids, grandkids sake. Lots of wild twists in that one! So, have put mine on back burner. All I have is pretty much dead ends anyway.
I had only a family note about those kids, that they "died young" and I thought that note came from you; but I guess it came from my aunt who did some work on this line probably in the '70s '80s, (?), which we springboarded off her work. One day I'll learn to source my work better.
Hope you're having lots of success with your diggin' :)

Hi, Juls! Good to see you again. :)
You two have found a couple of typos for me. Indeed, James Arthur falls between Kate and Richard. I had Richard's b.d. as 12 Jul 1881 rather than 1886.
As far as Joseph and Irene's marriage date it is 5 Nov 1890. (5th day of 11th month); where I had flipped it and had it 11 May (11th day of 5th month). lol on me! Some kind of sign of dyslexia looks like! :(
I'm glad this came up so I could correct it!
Searching for Snider

I am researching a branch of the Snider family line that at least at one time was in West Virginia. Maybe some descendants still are in West Virginia?

The oldest Snider Ancestor I have found info on is Peter Snider. All records agree he was born somewhere between 1853 and 1855. Census records say he was born in Germany. His marriage certificate, that says he married Eva Knopf (maybe Eve Knupp?) in 1879 in West Virginia, says Peter was born in Monroe County, WV. Eva died in 1942 and her death certificate suggests that Peter pre-deceased her.

Census records say that Peter and Eva had two children and adopted a third. The adopted boy was Charley Stanbery born about 1873 in WV. Their daughter was Emma (maybe Erma?) born about 1886 in WV. I have no other information on these two individuals.

Their natural son was William Snider (also known as Willie) born 1882 in West Virginia and died 1975 probably in West Virginia. According to his obituary, his wife Mae Flinn Snider pre-deceased him. They had one son that I am aware of - Kenneth Snider.

Kenneth Snider was born 1917 in West Virginia and died 1990 in WV. A marriage certificate indicates that in 1943 Kenneth married Bernice Lowers born 1920 in West Virginia and died 2001 in Ohio.

It would be great to find out more about the Snider ancestry as well as perhaps finding any living Snider descendants.

Can anyone help me fill in some of my gaps of information?

I would be interested in seeing that website. I'm not sure if this John and Susan are a relation to me but I am looking for a John Snider and the names William and Riley are found in my tree. Also my Sniders came from VA. I heard there is Indian blood in my line too.

They had a daughter named
Mary (Polly) Childs who married a Michael Bright (Bryte).
Would you have any information on her? I would like to exchange information with you.
barbara

If you are a male Schneider/Snider/Snyder, the best way to find your kin is to get your DNA tested. If you are a daughter of a Schneider/Snider/Snyder, get your brother or father to get their DNA tested. Sign up with Jane on the Schneider/Snider/Snyder project.
The price is right.

Do you have any other information about Rufus' ancestors or other decendants?
Oh please, please share.
Tina

Apparently I am a decendant of William A Snider, who was a son to Russell and Francis Snider. My great grandfather was Clyde Snider who is suppose to be a son of William and Molly Snider. I cannot locate Mollie though.
