Sorry I am just now replying to this but for some odd reason I did not receive notification of your post. I am very interested to finally have a reply. I have dead ended in my searches on this line in my family that I have given up. I would love to find out more about your family if possible. Please contact me directly if you are interested also. I have not done anything for years with my genealogy but I had some genetic questions that seem to tie in with the Sohn part of my family tree. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Melinda

Frank and Edward were Eli Sohn's sons. Hede (Hahn) Sohn was married to Edward. They all lived in Williamson WV. I have had contact in the past with someone from the Starr family but we never quite figured out the connection. Frank was my father.

Re: Catharina Barbara Sohn married Nicholas Ziegler York Co., PA early 1700s

Hi, I am researching Johan Philipp Senft who came to America
in 1751 on the Ship Edinburgh.
Niklas Zeglar, was a fellow
passenger and they ended up
moving near each other in York,
Pa.. Johan married Anna Mary
Bens/Bentz in York abt 1754 and
their son Phillip is my line.
He married ? and moved to Washington Co., Maryland and then
to Ohio to Fairfield Co. the
area became Perry Co. His son Jacob
was born abt. 1776, probably in York,
Pa and he married Catherine Sain/Sane, they
also moved to Ohio. The Sain family may have
actually been the Sohn,Zohn family, so I
I am wondering if the Senfts, Zeiglers
and Sohns were related prior to coming to
America in 1751. Do you know where they
lived in Germany or Alsace before coming
to America ??
Also a George Zeigler was a wittness to
Philips Will in Perry Co., Ohio, 1830,
any ideas on whose child he was ?
The Senft name is spelled many ways,
many of the Ohio branch members ended
up spelling it Sinift. Do you know
where John Georgs Baptism took place?
Maybe I assumed Niklas Zeglar who came
in 1751 is the same person who was
married to a Sohn and made an error.
If this is the correct family wouldnt
they have been in Germany at the time
of the Baptism you wrote of ??
Were there related Sohns in the York.Pa area?

Thanks Sandy

Catharina Barbara Sohn married Nicholas Ziegler York Co., PA early 1700s

Looking for information on a Catharina Barbara Sohn who married a Nicholas Ziegler between 1734 and 1738 in Germany.

She was born about 1715 in Germany about 1715. There are conflicting dates for her death--1753, after 1791, or 17 Jan 1808.

They had 6 kids: Michael, John George, John Nicholas, Anna Elizabeth, Catharina Barbara, and Jacob.

Church records for John George's baptism list his sponsors as John George and Catherine Sohn. I'm thinking these must be Catharina Barbara Sohn's parents, but I can't be sure.

Any leads on this line would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Helen Snyder Sohn

Dear Lori---So, we have the same great, great grandmother and grandfather. How wonderful to find a new relation. First, I am not a member of this website so my time communicating with you will be limited. Please use my email account if you wish us to be able to continue communicating: jsheaff@windstream.net. Although born and raised in Baltimore, I have not lived there most of my adult life and currently live in Rabun County, GA which is at the gateway to the Smokey Mountains.
Now, on to Helena Anna Reinig Snyder and Adam Snyder's children. My grandmother was the oldest of 6 girls. Our family records show that Helene Fredricka Snyder Sohn was b 20 Oct 1893 and d 7 Sept 1930 (although you stated her grave marker indicated 1933 as the year of death??). The other sisters were Edna Margaret Snyder Ott b 1 Jul 1898, d 3 Jan 1972; Mildred Grace Snyder Crouse b 13 Aug 1904, d 25 Jul 1987; Elsie b 11 Oct 1900, d 29 Aug 1988; Sylvia Elizabeth Snyder Krause b 4 Oct 1908, d 18 Jul 2000 and finally there was a baby girl, Marie, who died as an infant. All were born, lived and died in the Baltimore area.
I gather John Michael Reinig and Fredricka Zamzow were born in Germany. Were they married when they came to this country and is that as far back as you have family records for this branch of the family? If only I had spoken to all my great aunts and uncles before they died about the family history, I probably would have a wealth of info I do not now have. I would appreciate any family info you have and I will give you anything more that I have which is of interest to you.
The photo is of Adam and Helena Snyder and daughters. (I hope it scanned okay).

Janice

Thank you so much for your reply!
Your grandmother's mother (Helena Anna Reinig) is the sister of my great grandfather (Benjamin john Reinig). I've been trying for years to get any details on the Reinigs, but they are incredibly elusive.
Do you happen to know where your grandmother was buried? I was at the cemetery a few years ago and she is buried next to her parents, but in all my research, I've not turned up the information on her death place. Also, do you happen to know anything on her siblings (married names, birth/death etc?) I'll take any information you have- it would be so helpful. And of course, whatever information I have that is helpful to you, I will pass along as well.
I look forward to your response,
Sincerely,
Lori

My maiden name was Sohn, and when I took German in high school my teacher, who was German, told me it meant "son". The plural of Sohn is "sohne" with an umlaut over the o. When my gggrandfather came here from Germany, our name was spelled Sohn with an umlaute over the o, which he dropped.
Hope this helps!

(I am assuming Juliana is the daughter of Samuel Speraw)

I can trace Henry, Judith and children to 1860 Lebanon Co, then in 1870 they disappear from census, I then pick up Judith again in 1880 as a widow with only daughter in Lebanon Co, can find all children but, Clinton. It seems Henry and Clinton must of died between 1860-1880. I have info on Judith and children until their deaths but, am trying to find out what happened to Henry and Clinton. Anyone researching this line or a line associated to this line please contact me.

Henry Sohn b. abt. 1820 Germany m.
