Hello again,
My grandfather's middle name is listed as Ludwig on his wife's death certificate - maybe it is a common name or just a coincidence?
Did your family come directly to NSW? There are several Solbergs listed as having sailed from Norway to Australia on the one ship in the 1800's but the list gives only initials & a surname.I just asssumed they were the one family. Please ask your father if he can remember any more.

Hi, I asked my father. He said his G-father came out in the 1800's from Norway. His name was Ludwic (he thinks). Dad memory is not so good now. Ludwic married an Australian woman name Charlotte Sutton. Ludwic was the only one from his family to come here, his brother went to the US.

Hey Troy - glad you found me! ha Yes, that was me (cheerleading) - crazy. Wish I could go back to the "good 'ole days" sometimes. My dad never told me that he stopped in to see you...but then, he doesn't really say much anyway...that's another story.

No, I do not live in Babbitt any longer and haven't since I graduated from high school in 1984. I went to the St. Cloud Business College, got married in 1985 and then moved to Colorado for 12 years where I had my first 2 sons (Zachary - 1989 and Jacob - 1994). We moved back to MN in 1997 and I now live in Red Lake Falls (east of Grand Forks and north of Crookston). In 2006, I had another son (Ben). He is now 5 and a momma's boy (just the way I like it) ha!

How about you? Where has your life brought you? I would love to catch up on you and your side of the family...feel free to email me privately at nessdr at yahoo dot com.

I'm trying to find my "Johnson/Johanson" Roots back to Norway. All I know is that my gggrandfather, John Joseph Johnson/Johanson was born Apr 21, 1871 in Trondheim in Sor-Trondelag, Norway (his parents were John Johnson/Johanson and Marguerite Jeussdten (sp? might be Jenssen). Oslo, Norway is another possible place.)
I don't know if John immigrated with family or alone. He was about 20 yrs at the known time of his immigration in 1891. I'm not sure if he immigrated to the US first then crossed into Canada or if he went straight to Canada. He married in Apr 24, 1893 at Notre Dame de la Visitation Church in Levis, Quebec to Lydia Cooke. The stand in Levis, Canada until 1901 when they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts. I do not know if John Johanson had any siblings. I saw the "Johnson" name and thought I'd see if you might know information on "Gertrude Johnson" heritage and if there might be a connection possibly. Thank you :)

I apologize for taking so long to post here, but working an impossible job for 10 months kept me away from working on my family history!

Now, according to the Spring Grove historian, Even's name at birth was Knutepladsen. This was changed when they came to America and bought the "Solberg" Farm. Then he married a Solberg. It may have been his wife's parents farm, but i have not been able to verify that. Either way, he took the Solberg name because it was more "American".
So, according to the Spring Grove records, he would not have had a "Christian Solberg" brother. I show his siblings as the following:
Ole Ellingson Knutepladsen
Helge Ellingson Knutepladsen
Even Ellingson Solberg
Mari Ellingsdr Knutepladsen
Bjorn Ellingson Knutepladsen
Barbru Ellingsdtr Knutepladsen

I have no record of a "caroline" being brn in Spring Grove. The historian has been extremely helpful.
A funny story: years ago, I sent letters with postcards enclosed requesting information on Solbergs in Spring Grove. I got one phone call from a Solberg - he was sitting at a cafe with all the rest of the Solbergs that I wrote. All related to each other, but not to us!

Hello,

I don't know if you ever found any information on Hans or Joshephine Solberg, but I was just looking at their census records to try and see if Hans was related to my great grandfather Julius Solberg. Julius came from Norway abt 1886 and settled near Eau Claire where he married Sophie Magnusson and had two children before moving to Portland North Dakota. 1n 1929 Julius traveled to Norway with Martin Solberg, also from Portland ND and Hans Solberg from Eau Claire. It looks like they traveled together so at this point I am working on the assumption they were brothers.

I don't have any information that cooresponds to your request, but if Hans and Julius are related I have some information on their family in Norway.

If you have anything else that may help, I would appreciate hearing it.

Thank you,
Fred

Both my Grandmother Carrie Solberg, and my husband told me the same story and i believe it is true. I spent an afternoon in Iowa and attempted to reach.

The far arm that they purchased was the Solberg Farm (front gate sign and all).
Re: Solberg Farm in Norway

In 1848 my great-grandfather left a farm near Tvedestrand for Chicago. I have been told that he lived on a portion of the Solberg farm. In 1852 his parents and siblings departed for Chicago, and I have been told that the name Solberg appeared on the passport. My great-grandfather's name was Tjostolv Torjesen (which got changed to Thompson by a land agent in Waupaca, Wisconsin), so I have been wondering why the name Solberg appeared on the passport when his parents came over. (I have never seen the passport, and assume that it no longer exists.) Anyone have a possible answer?

I'm looking for a connection between my family in Spring Grove and some Solbergs there.
I've found an Erik Solberg who was witness to the wedding of Julia Peterson and Ole O Bakken in 1887 in Houston county, Mn, and in the 1900 census in Black Hammer township in Houston co., Marthe Petersen was living in the home of Henry Solberg (born June 1870). Marthe was born on the Solberg sondre farm near Brottum, Norway, in 1830. She was widowed in 1884. Do either Erik or Henry fit in your family tree?

Hans and Josephine Solberg - Eau Claire WI 1930

I'm looking for the Hans and Josephine (Hanson) Solberg family that lived in the Eau Claire WI area from 1910 through at least 1930. Josephine was born in November 1874 in WI (possible Stevens Point) and Hans was born in about 1867 in Norway. Josephine's mother, Steina Hanson, lived with them for many years before she died.

Hans and Josephine had at least three daughters; Mable in about 1904, Irene in about 1908, and Grace in about 1911 – all in WI, likely in Eau Claire.

All three daughters were still single according to the 1930 Census – Mable and Irene were listed as public school teachers; Hans was listed as a mill wright in a saw mill.

I have not been able to locate a date of death for any of the above, nor have I found marriages for any of the daughters.

Does anyone happen to have any additional information for this family?

Thanks!

Todd G
