I don't know if this will help with anything, but my grandfather said that he was familiar with all of the people you named in your message.

Your father Donald, who was named after a man that died in a war is the 1st cousin of my grandfather. My great grandfather,(dale, Tuck) was your grandfathers brother. My grandfather informed mer that he knew your grandfather very well and that he knows your father. I woudld like to correspond with some possible extended family. Please write back!
~Tyler Sollars

Sollers/Sollars in Frederick Co., MD 1800/1810

I am researching Hannah Sellers who married John Mumford in Frederick Co MD in 1800.

1800: Liberty, Frederick, MD:
There's a Dennis Sollers and a Frederick Sollers living just a few doors down from James and John Mumford. Also living a few doors down is Thomas Leakins, and. William Maryman, other surnames that intermarried with the Mumfords.
DENNIS SOLLERS: 00100-00100-0-5 (one male and female 16-25 and five slaves)
FREDERICK SOLLERS: 00010-00000-0-7 (one male 26-44 and seven slaves) Therefore born ca 1756-1774

1810 Frederick, MD
J. Mumford 40010-21010-00
4 males, 2 females under 10; one female 10-15; one male and female 26-44 therefore the head of household was born ca 1766-1784
NEXT DOOR: S. SOLLARS 10011-00100-0-18
(one male 45+, one male 26-44, one female 16-25, one male under 10, and 18 slaves)
NEXT DOOR: D. SOLLARS 00012-00000-0-10
(two males 45+, one male 26-44, and 10 slaves)

Since the Sollars are living next door to J. Mumford in 1810, it leads me to believe that Hannah Sellers, wife of John Mumford, was actually Hannah Sollars. Anyone out there researching this line?

Jodei Robinson

thanks judgewatson1.

Max Davis is know to me. But I have a different relationship. My father-in-law who would only buy tires from Harry Sollars in SE DC. Retells that Harry Sollars had a sister Fanny who married Max Davis and they had one son.

Harry Sollars was at your Bar Mitzah, he also attended the weddings of all Fanny Shapero's (nee Salas) children.

I continue to be perplexed by the Sollars, Salas, and now Silas connection. I thank you for the 1895 Jacob Silas lead. I'll pursue this.

I am looking for photos of Harry Sollars if anyone has one. His daughter, Irene Sollars, married Milton Coleman they had two sons.

I came across this posting by accident while searching for information on Jewish businesses in Washington, DC in the first half of the 20th century. I am not aware of the Salas family in Baltimore to which you referred, however, Harry Sollars was related to my mother's family from Philidelphia who spelled their name SILAS. Harry Sollars came to my Bar Mitzva in Washington in 1954.

Harry Sollars was always referred to as my grandfather's cousin. If he was a first cousin, he would have been the son of my greatgrandfather's brother. My greatgradfather, Jacob Silas, emigrated to Philadelphia about 1895. There was also another cousin, Max Davis, of Leesburg, Virgina. If he was also a first cousin, he would have been the son of my greatgrandfather's sister. There is a reference to Max Davis at http://www.waterfordhistory.org/history/waterford-1930s.htm

I keep finding links to www.sollars.org, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Is it relocated into a new place?

Anyway, it appears that Hannah and Sabert migrated to Greene County (TN, formerly NC) in the early 1780s. They appears to have come from August County, VA. Any information on them would be helpful. Thanks,

--Jay Henderson

Hi Bill,

Bob Sollars here. I see there have been no hits for your Emanuel (Sandy) and Lydia McClung Sollars query since 2005, so I guess there is no reason for me to inquire further about them myself on this site. Good hunting. Bob

Hi Wilma,
Your Polly must be the sister to my great grandfather. Polly (Pet) Sollars. Sister to John Elbert Sollars, James H. Sollars, Grace Sollars, Maggie Mae Sollars. Her father was William Manuel Hayes Sollars. His father was Marshall L. Sollars. His father John B. Sollars and last I have Sabert Sollars.
Pollly married Robert Hanlin and they had 3 children: Verlene Hanlin, Bernice Hanlin & Virginia Hanlin. Robert Hanlin had died in a wagon accident. Polly had a first husband, Edward Grazier. This is all I have. Is this your line? If so let me know.
Carrie Sollars Ramirez ramirez243@netzero.com

Saw your post. This is may be too late but anyhoo. My grandfather was Arnold L. Sollars of St. Jo. He had 8 siblings, Gertrude, Marilla, Alice, Marie, Charlotte, Harold, Clarence & Alfred. Alice and Charlotte are the only ones living now. Their parents: John Elbert Sollars and Marie Pauline Didlo. Her parents: Nicholas Didlo and Pauline Marie Kallamb. They all lived in the French Bottoms of St. Jo. John's parents: William Manuel Hayes and Elizabeth Courter(?) Still working on that one. Let me know if this helps and if you need more.
Carrie
ramirez243@netzero.com

Ann, Matilda, & Nancy Sollers/Sollars of Huntingdon Co., PA

Hoping someone will recognize the names of these women and tell me either to whom they were married or from whom they descend?

In the 1850 Federal Census for Clay Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, we find a 62 year old woman named, "Ann Sollars," living in the household of one, James Cowen. Below are the names of those in the household:

James Cowen, 56, farmer
Sarah Cowen (wife) 54
Ann Cowen (daughter) 20
James Cowen (son) 17
Ann "Sollars" 62 (relationship unknown)

James "Cowans" and his wife Sarah "Cowans" are found buried in the Old School Baptist Church yard on Meadow Gap Rd., near Three Springs, Huntingdon Co., PA

Found right beside James and Sarah are the headstones for Matilda A. "Sollers" and Nancy "Sollers." Is it possible that Matilda A. is the same person as Ann, perhaps, she went by her middle name?

Does anyone know who Ann, Matilda, and Nancy Sollars/Sollers are? Does anyone know the relationship of these women to either James Cowen/Cowans or his wife, Sarah? Does anyone know anything about James Cowen/Cowans?

James and Sarah are my ggg grandparents, but I also descend from the Sollars/Sollers through another grandparent.

Any info greatly appreciated. Thank you.
