Einar and Myrtle where Olaf's kids and from Bemidji. I think Einar died in St. Louis. Apperently neither had kids. My Grandpa Halvdan was Olaf's brother...don't yet know who was older, from Nevis, Walker, Bemidji, Minnesota. Apparently Halvdan was six or seven from Norway when he got to MN.
Randy

Athough I do not have the same surname, my mother-in-law's mother was Lillian Solo. I believe Lillian's parents were Antonio Solo (b. about 1840) and Filomena Solo (b. about 1850). They were all born in Italy and came to live in Brooklyn, NY. Some of this info came from the 1910 census. Lillian, who was born about 1885, married Rocco Latorre. They had children then she died before age 35 (don't know how many because Rocco remarried quickly).

Let me knlow if any of this sounds familiar.

Very interesting. Thanks.

I found a John Solo age 63 in Canal Fulton, Stark, OH in the 1870 census. He was a carpenter. Living with him is:

Louisa Solo, 19, F, keeping house, but not his wife.
George Solo, 17, M, at home.
Christian Solo, 16, M, at home.
Ann Solo, 14, F, at home.
Kitty Solo, 12, F, at home.

I'm guessing John was grandfather or uncle to these and that Kitty is a nickname for Catherine. Any idea who their parents were? First time I've seen George or Christian.

After Henry died she married John his brother. The story goes John had wanted to marry Elizabeth but she wouldn't marry as she had not began menses so was not considered a woman yet. John was so upset that he joined the service. When she was ready to marry she married Henry.

In the 1880 census we find a John and Jane St. Charles with their oldest child born about 1870. The youngest born about 1880. Then in the 1900 census John and Elizabeth married one year, with her four youngest children at home. She is recorded as having 13 children with 11 living.

John died between 1909 and 19010. Elizabeth still had four children at home. They were 19 to 19, no occupation and listed as "own income"

This is also from Joan Roosa

His occupation looks like Leusut. Wife C. born in MI, age 24. Daughter E. born in OH, age 5 (matches with Elisabeth. Daughter S. born in OH, age 4. Son J. born in OH, age 3. Daughter Mary J. born in OH, age 1.

Thanks for your help. I'm passing it on to my cousine.

Here is the info I have. Henry St. Charles born abt. 1847, in Wyane County, MI. died 18*96 and buried at St. Stephens, New Boston, MI. Died from a stroke.

Henry and Elizabeth are first found living with his parents in 1870 with their first born, Noah. His family his name was Louis Henry and was nick named Noah. The 1880 census records him as Noah H.

Elizabeth was born Dec. 10, 1854 she died on Jan. 6, 1935 and is buried at St. Stephens, New Boston. (Nice little Church, been their once) Cause of death was Cerebral Hemorrhage, Hemophilia, she had Prebyopis for 7 years. (couldn't find what it was).

It has been toldy by family members that Elizabeth's mother died when she was young. And once when her father came home from work he found a bear in the house and the children hiding in the loft. So then he gave them up to other families to raise. And the Elizabeth was taken in by John & Archange St. Charles.
However, in the 1870 census we find who we believe to be her parents Peter & Mary (Catherine Solo) having four children still at home. Noah, one unreadable name (looks like Ausims), Mary and Matilda. We do have a family member that she did have a brother Charlie and a sister, Mary. Noah could have been Noah's first or middle name.

In latter years Elizabeth was leaving Church and while in a crowd, was struck in the head by a brick that had been thrown by a man who had only recently been released from a mental hospital and was working for the Church as a janitor. She was never quite right, mentall, after that.

Obit: (Burton Historical Society)
Mrs. Elizabeth St. Charles. Funeral services for Mrs. St. Charles, a descendent of one of Wayne County pioneer families were held at 9:30 AM today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne, burial in New Baltimore (conflict of other info). Born in 1854 in Ohio of parents who had come there from Michigan. Mrs. St. Charles, the former Elizabeth Solo moved to New Baltimore as a child. Her father was related to the Campeaus, one of the first French families to settle in Michigan. Survivors: a daughter, Mrs. Calvin Newman, Wayne; Sons: Frederick, Wayne, Edward, Elmer, Gilbert of Detroit: Eli, Levi of Rushton: Louis of Monroe,
Info from other obits one included her other daughter Elmira Rushlow of Wyandotte, left out Eli, Another gave burial at New Boston (this is right). Another gave her birth place as New Port, Ohio (Can not find), Father Peter Solo, Mother Katherine La Fontaine.
This information is by a St. Charles Genealogy book written by Joan (Bates) Roosa.

Hopr this helps you out.

I believe they are located at a library in Taylor, I have recieved more information since then, and have been inputing it in Ancestry.
I'm new to ancestry.com; How pleased I am to discover your message. We are trying to gain information regarding my husband's roots. His father, John Wesley Hughey (b 1863), married Mary Josephine Solo (b 1865). Mary's father was Anthony Solo, and his father was Alexis Pierre Solo. Alexis' father, according to our information, was born 21 Sept 1732 and married Marguerite Descomps Dit Labadie (b 22 Aug 1734).If you can direct us to information regarding the Solo ancestry, we would be grateful. Ours is limited to names, some dates and locations. Let us know, please, when the directory you mentioned will be available, and details of the how and when of locating/reading. How exciting!

Barbara Parham Hughey (Mrs. Richard M. Hughey)
Kalamazoo, MI barbjhughey@aol.com

Andrea,
This is what I have for a Peter and Mathilda (St. Charles) Solo:

Peter Solo was born either 1827 or 1829 in Frenchtown, Monroe, Michigan to Claude John Baptiste Solo and Mary Cloutier. Peter died 24 June 1904 in Escore, Wayne, Michigan
He was married twice; the first time to a Mathilda St. Charles in Escore, the second time to a Catherine Lafontaine in Frenchtown.
Mathilda St. Charles was born about 1845 in Monynago, Wayne, Michigan to John Baptiste St. Charles and Archange Theresa Desjardin. No further info on her other than the marriage to Peter Solo.
At one point the Solo's on my side were traced and the records were published, but I haven't seen them physically. I have had a lot of luck with the internet, especially www.familysearch.org and www.gencircles.com
Just be wary, when information gets copied the names get misspelled and the dates can change slightly. Especially with French families, you have to be careful because every generation reuses the same given names, repeatedly! There are probably several Peter's during the time frame you are looking.....all cousins to each other....

I am in the process of linking some Solo lines together (my mother is a SOLO) and have been doing some research at the Bacon Historical Library in Wyandotte where I have come across some SOLO names I am not familiar with. If you have some names and approximate dates for folks from the Ecorse and Monguagon (Wyandotte/Trenton) areas, I will be glad to take a look and see what, if any, information is there. Offhand, I know of a William, but haven't followed the kinship yet. He was listed as informant on the death of my grandfather's (Napoleon SOLO) baby brother. Can't promise I'll find anything for you, but will certainly try.

You see I have books with Pedigree files but I also have FTM program. I have been trying to get all of my stuff organized but with school (I am in College) I don't have time to put in on the computer. I am hoping on my Easter break I will get a chance to clean my desk up and put all of my Genealogy stuff together. I never knew how long it would take to input information on to my computer.
Do you have any more information on the SOLO family? If you do I was wondering If I paid you for copies and shipping could you send me a copy of the information. I have many envelopes with other family information It is always a lot easier for me to get the information in the computer. Do you live in Michigan? I have Matilda ST.CHARLES Birth/Death record from Wyandotte,MI But I am so disorganized and I cant seem to find it. I never loose anything Its always in a pile or in an envelope. LOL I don't know about you but I can never seem to get my Genealogy stuff organized.

Thanks

Andrea Fountain
