Melida Solorzano Barr - b. 1923 in Guatemala City

BARR (SOLORZANO) Melida S. "Mamo" Barr, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

She was born June 1, 1923 in Guatemala City, Central America.
Mamo was a sports fan, athlete, mother, grandmother and matriarch. She a gold medal winner in track and field at the Pan-American games in Barranquilla, Columbia where she represented her native country in 1938.
She met her husband of 48 years during World War II when he was serving in the Army Air Corps.
Married in 1948, they returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
She became an American citizen and worked in accounting for Huntington, City National and Society banks.
After leaving the banking business she worked 28 years for Lazarus and subsequently Macy's.

She is preceded in death by her parents Victor Manuel Solorzano and Emilia Izzeppi de Solorzano and husband W. James Barr.

Survived by her sister, Emma Solorzano; nephew, Ronald Curtis (Lorraine, Ronald, Oliver) of Guatemala; son, Joseph M. (Virginia) Barr; grandchild, Kristin (Christopher) Lundak of Lewis Center, Ohio; son, Dr. James J. (Martha) Barr of Columbus; grandchildren, Doctors Patrick (Laurel) of Scottsdale, AZ, Jacqueline (Eric Harmon), Elizabeth Barr of Columbus; son, John F. (Marion) Barr; and grandchildren, Melody and Jamie of Katy, TX.

Friends may call WEDNESDAY, October 19 2011 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 4-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on THURSDAY, October 20 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Mamo to the Mount Carmel Foundation (Palliative Care), 6150 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.

My name is Juan Silva. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii. My Father whom I am told was born in Guatemala not sure if just born there, was deported from hawaii when I was a child around 1990. I was with my mother Gail Silva-Solorzano during this time. After he left we have had no contact with him. If you know anything any inquiries would be much appreciated. I am looking for information on Rosa Solorzano. She was born and died in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Her son was Gilberto Moya Solorzano who died in Panama.
When Rosa died, Pablo Solorzano went to her funeral.

Estoy buscando información sobre Rosa Solorzano, nacida en Guayaquil y fallecida allí.
Hay también un Pablo Solorzano, que desconozco la relación con Rosa, pero asistió a su funeral.
Un hijo de Rosa Solorzano fue Gilberto Moya fallecido en Panamá.
Hay relación también con Enriqueta Usubillaga de Fernández que creo también es Solorzano de apellido materno.

Hi....

I wonder if there is a connection maybe by siblings. My Great Grandfather is Francisco Fidel Gonzalez Solorzano married to Carmen de la Cruz Jimenez Salazar. They both came from Spain and settled in Daule, Ecuador As of today we have a huge family. My Family tree is at www.granfamiliaonline.com email me for the password. I know you have to go to tools and accept all cookies for the password to be accepted. Either way.. they had 10 children which were all born and raised in Daule, Ecuador. Those children have each at least 9 - 10 children. From those children, my dad is Franklin Eloy Gonzalez Vargas who in turn had 9 children: me being the last of the girls.

So, if there is a connection somehow.. please write to me I will love to continue meeting more family.

My dad is Herman Vega Solorzano. His mother was Ermida Vega. His father Horacio Solorzano. Dad had four children in a preious marriage who I am interested in meeting. Their first names in order of age from oldest to youngest is: Tony, William, Joanna, Michelle. As far as I know they were born and raised in the San Francisco area and still live around there.

I most likely have indian roots. Well, mestizo anyway. I don't look like it, though.

The spanish surname Solorzano is local in origin. It feature or place. In this case the name derives from the region in Northern Spain known today as Santander but formerly called Solorzano. It appears that some centuries back a Spanish squire Llaniado Ferraro married a girl from the Camino family at Solorzano. Since then their successors took this name as their own family name. After that various branches of the respective families acquired the name. Solorzano os a common surname in that part of Spain known as the Basque region, particularly in the Spanish Navarre which borders France.
