his parents GEORGE GERALD SOMMERS 2 July 1848 & died 25 Feb 1907 @ home Studholm, Kings Cty, NB, CN & buried Upper Springfield Community Springfield, (Bellesile Creek) NB, Cn. He married Eunice Ann Kelly 31 May 1867/66 she was born 29 May 1848 & died 17 Apr 1923 Studholm, Kings Cty, NB CN.
Not much known on George.
WHO IS W G A SOMMERS?? also listed as WFA Sommers.
Is the W for Warren? as my grandfather is Warren

now the date of have for anson father is like 1815 not 1795 yet they had all names the same as you metioned i am new i just started 4 weeks ago , yet there must be a connection i can not find anything on my john and mirian somers if this helps good. my tree is public so you could check it out.

my nana was named Mary ann chilcott and she was married to a george chilcott. Im not sure were he came from and i have very little information about my family.One thing i do know is george adopted my mother caterine isobel whitbread into his last name.And george and Mary also adopted a boy by the mane of Aurther as well.My Nana became ill and needed care. And george took up a relation ship with a neibour .He remarried im told after my nana passed away. He later on died and the other women ended up with the family home which had been past on from mother to dourther..The place were they lved was 26 willis st east victoria park Western Audstralia. Do you know if there was a daughter, Marie Pauline McNeil born Dec 3, 1916 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Cananda? Pauline married W. Michael MacSween. They came to America March 9, 1952 thru the Port of Huron, Michigan and settled in California. They arrived with 2 children. But the daughter Anna does not show in later records. They had two children in 1975 both living in California. Pauline McNeil MacSween died in July 2011 in California. Appreciate a reply

In July 2011 I was fortunate to be able to photograph monuments in The Holy Rude Church which sits right below Stirling Castle in Stirling, Scotland. It is a beautiful cemetery. I hope that someone finds this pic meaningful to their family!

My mother was Mary Somers from Sligo West Ireland born 1912.
Her parents were Michael & Bridgit Somers(nee O'Reilly)I think Michael had a brother John ( unconfirmed) his parents were Michael & Mary Somers. I struggle to get back further as its difficult with Irish records.
My mother told me that the Somer's originated from Belgium - I don't know when or even how true this information is.
Ithink there was a Somers who died very young (married to a mcmorrow) had two daughters who following their mothers death were put into care ( one of the industrial schools in Ireland) until the age of 16, following this they emigrated to America. Love to hear about your side of the Somers family.

Just interested in reading the messages. My mother was Somers from Sligo in the west coast of Ireland and I have been searching that neck of the woods for relations. Its amazing just to see the name being searched in other far flung places.

Donna, Are you sure of the linage in this post. Some of my
cousins and I have been trying to figure this Somers family

out also and it is real hard to make proven connections. There were so many John Somers and several living in the
same time period. My GGreat Grandparents were James M.Tawes
and Charlotte (Somers) Tawes. Charlotte was the daughter of
one of the Johns. I'm not sure which John. James and Charlotte lived on land purchased from her father? and overlooking Somers Cove. Did you know that the old
Somers graveyard overlooks Somers Cove Marina, but it has
been almost totally destroyed. I can only find the stone of
Nancy Hanks Somers and as my great uncle and aunt lived at
that location when I was young. I seem to remember that there
were more graves than that. One of my cousins is looking
into getting permission from the current property owner
to fence in the graveyard, but we spoke to him years ago
and I doubt if he will allow it. We asked him at that time
if we could try to locate other graves in the site and he
said no! At any rate should my cousin be lucky enough to
get permission to fence the site in contributions from any
Somers cousins would be welcome. Will post more as I learn
more from her. She does have her nephew who is a lawyer
helping her. More later.

My grandfather, Daniel Ralph, had several brothers and sisters, some of whom can be found on Ancestry.com., My only cousins from my family are deceased. I am the only one, besides my children and grandchild left from the marriage of Daniel and Elsie Pfeiffer. Daniel may have remarried a Frieda During WW II, and lived in Toms River NJ.

I don't know if there's a connection to my Somers line or not, but I do honor all those who gave their lives to defend our country. My husband was a WWII veteran served
on Okinawa,Thankfully he returned home safely.
My father was William Thomas Somers and I trace back to Capt John Somers who lived and served in the Rev War from Caswell Co, NC. He was from Warwickshire, England.

Can someone please point this email in the correct direction? I am looking for marriage records for 2 sets of people. I do not need copies, just the information on those records would suffice.

1. Marriage between Samuel Somers b. 9 Mar 1907 and Helen Roberts b. 13 Jul 1908. Marriage date would have probably been between 1927 and 1929. Samuel Somers parents are Thomas F Somers & Wilhemyna. (Samuel & Helen are my great
grandparents) Married somewhere in Paterson, NJ.

The only thing I am trying to discover that I do not have is Helen Roberts parents names.

2. Marriage between Thomas F Somers b. 20 Jul 1881 & Wilhemyna b. 29 Jul 1885.
His parents names were Thomas & Maggie. I am looking for Wilhemyna's parents names (and her maiden name). Married somewhere in Paterson, NJ. They were married probably somewhere between 1900-1906.

Those who would know have either passed or cannot remember.

Lyman (born in NY 11/5/1825; died 5/19/1904 in Ohio)
Dolly (born somewhere 11/6/1814; unknown DOD)
Benajah (born in NY 8/15/1816; died 5/26/1866 in Ohio; married Laura Rider)
Huldah (born somewhere 3/20/1820)
Arilla/Orilla (birth unknown; died 2/11/1856 in Ohio; married Edward E. Rider)

John was married twice more (I think):
2nd wife: Elizabeth Austin Somers (born in Maine in 1788; died in Ohio 10/18/1847)
Mary Barrett (no further info)

Here is what I have found;

Mary A. Sommers 25 Sep 1896-4 Dec 1990 Waseca Co.,Mn. and mother's maiden name was Brandt.

Allen L. Sommers 22 Jan 1898-22 Jan 1962 Cass Co.,Mn. and mother's maiden name was Brandt.

There was a listing for a John Conwood Sommers that lived 29 Jan 1892-7 Apr 1985 Anoka Co.,Mn.,but the mother's maiden name was Pohl.

I am helping someone doing research on Maria Thomas who married Samuel J.Somers on 4 June 1850.
Maria J. Somers death certificate says she was born in Fairmount, MD. In the 1850 census for Somerset I couldn't locate Fairmount. I did locate Maria and Samuel Somers spelled Summers in a section of Brinkley's. They were in the home of Richardson Dise. This census was taken a few weeks after their marriage. In the same district was Mary Summers 78 and another home included Severn Sommers and family.
A John and Milly Thomas lived very close to Severn.

DEATH OF MRS. SOMERS

The death of Mrs. Burbank Somers, which occurred on Saturday, has saddened the older members of society. Mrs. Somers and her family lived for many years in the fashionable district on the other side of Market Street, where the Martins and Donohoes and many prominent families had their homes before Nob Hill became the popular residence place. She came here with her husband, the late Burbank Somers, in early days and took part in the social affairs of the seventies. Mrs. Fred Peterson of Belvedere and Dr. George B. Somers are receiving the sympathy of their friends for the death of their mother.

I am looking for information on anyone in the Somers family line. My great grandfather Was Thomas Clifton Somers, hailed from Scotland. My great grandmother was named Hattie(probably nickname)no clue what her maiden name was. She might have come from Canada not sure, died 1986 in Indiana. The other side of the family is John S. Hook, married Margaret Murray. I have NOTHING on John Hook. Any know anything? Margaret's parents were Michael Murray and Emma Lee hailed from Ireland. Nice to hear from you. At the outset let me say that I have no record of the Marcella Somers that you are trying to trace. There was a family of Somers in Castlegregory back then and probably for a couple of generations. While I cannot find any documentary proof of a blood relationship it has been generally accepted that most, if not all, of these families originated from the same source. As you are probably already aware our records in Ireland for that period are not great. With regard to the Swindell family – again I have heard the name and they are recorded as you mentioned. If you would like to let me have details of the names of those witnesses from church records etc., I may be able to put some shape to your query

I am new to the Somers ancestor tracking. Our family always recorded our cousin from Co. Kerry as a Marcella Somes. I never had any luck finding anything using the Somes name. I noticed in some newly available church records that her father and witnesses to many family events were named Somers, there seem to be many Somers in Kerry. I see on this thread several Marcella's, but none are mine. My distant cousin Edward Fitzgerald Swindell, brother of Richard F. Swindell (Chancellor of Ardwick and Aghadoe 1830's) married Marcella in the early 1800's and lived at Oak Park. They had one son Richard born about 1830 who had many children and Marcella was a very common name for the daughters and grandaughters. The Swindell's have ties to Tralee, Listowel, Castleisland and Tullaree on the Dingle Peninsula. Do you have any knowledge of this family?

Hello Tim, I just saw this post on Ships from Ireland.I have a question, my mother had a relative last name Somers from Kerry he left Ireland sometime in the 1800's. the talk was he went to the US or Canada and may have had something to do with trapping, Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have any information on this BUT it seems strange that my Gr-Grandfather (Charles Manard Sommers) was raised with a Murray family. Dr Murray only had daughters & Charles was listed there as a farmhand as a youth growing up. Charles was the son of GEORGE GERALD SOMMERS & EUNICE (KELLY) SOMMERS, I believe GEORGE died 1907 (hung himself in barn). I do not have the year census on which Charles was listed with the Murray family. Studholm Parsish II Kings COunty. Chas left CN & went to Massachusetts where he married 1895 & settled down
I do not have my Sommer/Somers papers handy at the moment. Filed them away as frustrated trying to find information on George.

I am looking for information on Maria Thomas b. 1834 in MD. She married Samuel Somers June 4, 1850 and had Henrietta b. 1850, John H. b. 1854, Samuel S. b. 1855, Emily b. 1857, Sarah b. 1861, Anna M. b. 1862, and Charles b. 1869. All of these dates are approximate since the daughter Emily is my g~g~grandmother and she was born 1860 according to family info. If anyone has information on Maria or any of the family members please pass it on to me. I cannot find parents for either Maria or Samuel her husband b. about 1821. I know they lived in Somerset County, MD. Family gossip has it that Maria is related to Joshua Thomas who was called the "Parson of the Islands" Maria is said to be the daughter of one of Joshua's brothers. Any help or information will be appreciated. Thank You.

My John Somers' wife was Catherine Arden. After the Rev War they lived in Caswell Co, NC until he died in 1803.
Both families were originally from England. I have not been able to trace their entry into the Colonies because they came as citizens.
