I hope that you will be able to help me. My paternal Grandmother was named Alice Heath Somerton. I suspect that based on the name, this could be the same lineage. Can you confirm that the Somerton's you are interested in are of Portugal Cove, NL?

Azariah Churchill and Eliza Somerton Churchill are my maternal, great grandparents. My mother is Mollie Churchill Moores of Portugal Cove and her father (my maternal grandfather)was Dell Churchill, one of the children of Azariah and Eliza Somerton Churchill. I am very interested in having any information about my kin on the Somerton and Miller side as well as Azariah Churchill's geneology.

Yes i remember alecia ,she was only a totler I was a boyfriend of dianes in 1964 and 65. Sorry to hear about alecia.I,m from bell island and now living in wpg mb.for a good many yrs.I happened to come across this sight while emailing.Lilian somerton was very nice i really liked her.I new the whole family.Idon,t really know who is left but i do know the whole family.Do hope diane is find I never forgotten her.I do wish you all the best and take care Happy New Year Don.

Hi Karen. I believe your mom is my aunt. My mother is Debra Somerton, born of Lilian Hunter and Clarence Somerton(deceased). There were 13 children in all however 4 have passed away, Shelly, Trevor (Sheldon), another uncle (can't remember his name), and Alecia. There is also Diane, Rosanne, Fred, Kenny, Jackie, and I can't remember the names of the last 3. If any of this sounds familiar send me an e-mail. If your mom is my aunt I don't think anyone was aware she had children. At least I don't remember my mom ever mentioning it. And if you are my cousin, Aunt Rosanna lives near toronto. If I can pass on some contact info she would be able to tell you alot more then I could.

Azriah(spelling on his grave marker) Churchill and Eliza are my Great Grandparents. His son Dell and wife Jane (Hennessey) are my Grandparents. Their son,Harris, is my Father.Other children of Dell and Jane were Lydia,Kenneth,Maude,Bessie,Ruby,Molly,Clayton and Gerald. They also had a son,Bert,who died at age 12.
I'm very interested in finding more on my Grandfather in particular as well as his parents/family.

I am hoping you can help me. I have a Maria Somerton born May 1851 in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland who married May 26, 1876 in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland to William Moulton born December 29, 1853 in Pouch Cove. I would like to find out anything I can about Maria's parents, siblings etc. Maria and William had 9 children that I know of and they were all born in Pouch Cove.

British Somertons who have relatives in New Zealand

My grandfather and great-uncles emigrated to New Zealand from England around 1912. They originally landed at Gisborne but my grandfather and some of his family members chose to establish their home in New Plymouth instead. They were all bakers by trade. I would like to hear from anyone who has links to this branch of the family. My grandfather's first name was John or "Jack". He married Ellen who also emigrated from England subsequently.

I'm attempting to get my Grandfather's earlier family history.

He was originally from Portugal Cove and moved to Bell Island to Work in the mines. I believe his fathers name was John Symon and his mothers name Emma. He has three sisters Laura , Gladys and Meg. His two brothers were Clarence and Ned.

Karen, I remember your family but can't remember all their names. Your grandfather was Clarence and his wife's name was Lillian. I also remember Terry, Fred, Diane, David, your mother, there was another sister around your mother's age (name escapes me) and others. Anyhow, I do believe Fred is still living in Portugal Cove and married to the former Diane Summers. Hope this helps.

Hi Cheryl, your husband and I seem to have a connection. Azariah Churchill was my great grandfather. My grandfather was his son Dell. Dell married Eliza Jane Hennessey (Kelligrews) and they had 10 children: Bert whom died at a very young age, Lydia, Maud, Kenneth, Harris, Mollie (my mother), Gerald, Bessie, Clayton and Ruby. Do you have any info on a Jane? I am trying to find a link between her and my ggfather George Churchill. I am trying to find out her husband's name, too.

I think she might be his aunt.
Jane's father was Edward Churchill who died around 1898 from Portugal Cove, farmer.

Jane had four brothers: Peter, Alfred, Elijah and John. She was married to a Mr. Somerton at the time of her father's death in1898.

Jane's brother John passed away by 1898, and had two son's: George and Andrew.

I think George, her nephew, might be my ggfather.

I've hit a two-year brick wall in researaching my Churchill background.

Any help you might offer would be greatly appreciated.

On my husband's side of the family he has an Eliza Somerton who married Azaria Churchill from the Portugal Cove area. They had Molly, Chesley, Blanch, Fred, Dell & Bert. Eliza's parents were Steven & Belinda Miller Somerton.

My mother`s name was Alecia Somerton, my name is Karen Tonner. She passed away in Toronto, May 12 1978. She was supposed to have buried in Portugal Cove shortly after, but I cannot seem to find her. I was only five when she died, my brother was three. I have two children of my own and I would like to be able to tell them about my mother and her family. Unfortunatly, I have very little information to go on.
She came from a fairly large family, I think there was thirteen brothers and sisters. The father`s name was Clarence (don`t quote me on that!). I do know one of her brothers name was Terence, and two of her sisters lived in scarbourgh for awhile before moving back to Portugal Cove. If you can find out anything it would be a big help.
